Should I start wrestling as a sophomore?
I’m a sophomore in high school 5 ft 115lbs I bench like 140 and squat like 195 and some seniors told me I should wrestle this year at 106. Is that a good idea?

I am going to talk to the coach tomorrow, but I know nothing about wrestling and don’t know what do to at home to prepare for November. (Practice starts before then)

So first of all, I know it's Cary Kolat, good luck defending etc. but even if it was against a wrestler who wasn't as well conditioned or technically precise.
The first option is to defend the initial shot. I know there are defences against that, there might be issues with the execution but I am at least aware of defence options.
I am not quite so sure what to do once the offensive wrestler assumes the head inside position and the shoulder comes into contact with the thigh. From here in my gym there are two types of wrestlers;
1) Those who try to rotate the defender excessively wide. This can be defended against by riding the attack and bouncing round horizontally.
2) Those who try rotate horizontally and also push down with the shoulder or chest at the same time. Against this attack I am unsure of how to defend. Against head outside run the pipe, I can at least try to use a sit the corner defence, as a late stage defence. Against head inside run the pipe, I pretty much feel like a sitting duck as long as they push downwards?

What app do you all use for recording matches and keeping film organized?
My school used matboss last year and we didn't have too many issues. I just got the invoice for this season and it is $700. I was told by another coach that Athlete Ocean has a service like this that might be more worthwhile. I was wondering what options I have for my high school team. Which app does your team use and how do you like it?

I’ve been wrestling for all 3 previous years of high school. My first year as a freshman, I was unbelievably shit but tbf I was jv and that’s not that crazy. Sophomore year and junior year, I had a horrible record despite being able to beat guys with really good records in my wrestling room, and I mostly believe it’s because I have really really bad anxiety as a result of some trauma I have along with some mental disorders I have. The problem is, I’m really not bad at the sport but out in matches I perform terribly, even after 3 years because of my anxiety. I also should mention that i have pulmonary fibrosis which significantly hinders my stamina and it shows since after all three years i still can’t last 6 minutes. I think part of my anxiety comes from how ill be seen, even more so because its my senior year now and i feel like going out and consistently losing as a 4th year wrestler is just laughable even if im strong in the practice room.
I think my anxiety has made competing (not practicing) a genuine living hell for me and I really wish I could enjoy it like everyone else on my team but instead I just feel existential dread. I think another big contributor has been that my coach treats me like I’m not there, even though I’m probably the 4th best on the team. He doesn’t let me practice with people my level or higher out of fear of me making them worse or just seeing me as unusable, he always has tips on peoples wrestling EVEN THE FRESHMAN, but he never gives me advice and just shrugs it off.
Overall I’ve lost so much love for the sport when it comes to competing but I don’t want to leave cause I like it I just wish I could like competing, and seeing all the hard effort I put in go unnoticed, through bleeding coughs and hospital visits from pushing myself, it’s destroyed my passion and my mental health, but man I really want to love it and I do love practice.
(Btw I’ve tried asking my teammates for help with the anxiety, I’ve tried therapy, I’ve asked my coach even tho he told me I’m just being a pussy, I’ve tried asking friends, nothing has helped)

I am a beginner at wrestling and I have been going to club practice for about two months. I still very confused and even nervous. I can shoot a double leg and single leg, but not that cleanly. How should I get better at wrestling? I also have highschool tryouts in November. Something I can do though is basic stance and motion, blocking, fakes, uh sprawls and shots. I also workout sometimes but I’m not noticing much growth. It’s very hard to control my diet since I’m a kid and I eat whatever my parents make. I also have a lot of fat which sucks. Not like much like I’m tight. But like skinny fat is what I’m trying to say.
But I want to get big and strong, so how should I eat more protein? My current workout plan is:
Legs: Smith machine 40 pounds, about 3x6 set if I remember correctly.
25 pound goblet squats. Forgot the count sadly sorry
And I do 20 pound rdls.
For core I just do cable crunches and arms I do triceps on a machine and stuff and then shoulders I use dumbells and stuff.
But yeah, how do I get better at wrestling and how do I get stronger? Advice would be nice!

I know there is technically no tapping out. But if a wrestler felt the need is there a signal or verbal saying he can give to the ref during the match that will make the ref stop them. And ultimately declaring the other wrestler the winner since the other quit.

Yes, exactly what I'm asking. What happened on your team, that you don't think happened with other wrestling teams. Let's see if my team is really that wierd.

short question: when you hit an armdrag from wrist control (or off your opp‘s wrist control), do you just focus on pulling the wrist down, extending opp‘s arm or are you also trying to pull the wrist down and across your own body helping with the motion of the armdrag? does it make a difference?

Obviously they're for different styles, but what would you guys recommend for this upcoming season?
