Question B.Ed Elementary competitive average?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply to the Bachelor of Education - Elementary program at MRU.

I know the website lists the competitive average range around the mid-80s to 90s, but from what I’ve read online, it seems like the actual cutoff might be even higher.

For those who got accepted recently (or if you know someone who did), could you share what average (based on your top 2 Group A courses) got you in?

Any insights would be super helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Awesome choice ! Unfortunately it is a harder program to get into because they only offer about 100 seats for incoming students every year, split between high school applicants and UEO/transfer students.
I did UEO last year and just got in this year with a 3.93 gpa. My friend got in as a high school applicant with an average of 94. I would say low to high 90’s is probably a lot more accurate of a competitive average.

I would also apply to UofC because they have a slightly lower competitive average since they offer many different BEd programs and accept more students per year. I believe red deer polytechnic also has a lower competitive average.

Hello! Thank you for your answer! Just to clarify, did your friend have a 94% average by combining their top two highest subjects? My average is around 95.5%, which is pretty close, so that gives me some hope lol... It gets scary seeing people's averages getting higher every year!

Hi, I’ve heard that if you apply for early admission using your Grade 11 marks and get a conditional offer you just have to meet the minimum required average in Grade 12 to hold your seat. Does that mean MRU won't recalculate your competitive average using your Grade 12 Group A marks once you're already conditionally accepted?
I ask because I managed to get a 95% average in my top two Group A courses in Grade 11, but I’m really nervous I won't be able to keep that exact same standard in Grade 12! I'd love to know how that worked for you or your friend when applying. Thanks again!

Hello!
Honestly I left high school (3 years ago) with a average of about 87-88% if I remember correctly. I wouldn’t take this number though as it was a while back and I’m sure the averages changed.
My initial application was rejected. A big role in this was just that the education seats at MRU are really small.

I decided to go the UEO route, which a lot of MRU students take. I hit the GPA requirement and got most of my GNEDs smacked out of the way, so I would definitely look into this route! Good luck!
