Trying to visit and obviously I really want to see the very cool looking llamas wearing the sunglasses and all that. But what months do I go to see them? (and with minimal crowd if possible) I was thinking november?

Planning a trip in mid-september and worried about El Nino. Will the trails be open?

Hey everyone, planning the 5 day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu for late October with my girlfriend and would love some input from people who've done it recently.

Quick context, we already have our own Machu Picchu tickets sorted (Circuit 3A, Huayna Picchu, October 26th, 7am entry), and we're leaning toward the train return option (Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo) over the car option for the extra time at the site and comfort on the way back.

We're currently comparing Machu Picchu Team and KB Adventures (MP Reservations seems a bit less consistence in newer reviews as well as only 1 dome night). Team is a bit pricier and offers two nights in their Sky Star crystal domes with smaller groups around 14 people. KB Adventures is more budget friendly, only one real Sky Dome night, more basic tents the rest of the way, bigger groups usually but nice guides. Also KB Adventure seems to be open on price negotiations.

Would love to hear from anyone who's done either recently, how the guides were, whether the domes are actually worth the hype, food quality, that sort of thing. Also open to other operators if you have recommendations we haven't considered.

Beyond the operator question, also happy to hear any general tips for this route. Train return timing, how it affects your day at Machu Picchu, gear rental, altitude stuff, anything you wish you'd known before doing it. Planning as a two person trip, not on a super tight budget, just want to make an informed call before booking.

Hi! We are a couple in our early 30s heading to Peru next year April / May and just need some advice on whether you think this itinerary is good and basically is paracas worth it for an unwind at the end of the trip? Also what are some good companies for the short Inca trail? 

Thoughts on a day trip to colca canyon and rainbow mountain? Is it doable or will it just be too rushed? Love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

We're headed to Peru the first week of November for a multi-day trek. Our trekking company can accommodate my allergy on the trail itself, so I'm covered there — my concern is the two acclimation days beforehand in Cusco, where we'll need to find safe meals and snacks on our own.

Some details: I have a severe tree-nut allergy. Peanuts are fine unless they've had any cross-contact with tree nuts. I carry an epi-pen and a translated allergy card.

Has anyone with a tree-nut allergy traveled through Cusco recently? A few things I'm hoping to get advice on:

Restaurants or cafés you'd trust with

cross-contamination

Grocery stores or markets where I could stock up on clearly-labeled packaged snacks

Any Spanish phrases beyond a standard allergy card that helped you get taken seriously

Whether it's worth packing my own dehydrated meals as backup, or if that's overkill

Appreciate any firsthand experience — trying to strike a balance between being prepared and not lugging a suitcase of backup food.

We have upcoming travel SEA to BOG (2 days) and then to Cusco. I did not check on vaccinations earlier and Gemini says i don’t need yellow fever vaccine but I’m worried if I should get it now. My travel is in two days Sept 3rd I land in bogota and Sept 6th I land in Cusco and back on Sept 11th. Should I get one at all or it’s not needed?

Any other recommendations? I’m upto date on hep B and just got my flu shot.

Hola a todos, con mi familia queremos ir a machu picchu en la ultima semana de septiembre, especificamente iriamos a aguas calientes el 27 y el 28 iriamos a machu picchu, el problema es que en las paginas oficiales aparecen agotados los boletos para esas fechas, entonces queria saber que tan factible es comprar los boletos alla para el dia siguiente, por ejemplo el mismo 27 comprar los boletos en aguas caliente para el 28, alguien ya fue en esta fecha? que pueda contar su experiencia, porque eh leido que a veces venden los voletos para 2 dias despues, gracias

Hi all, I got to AC today (Aug 30) at 9PM & ran to the ministry to get circuit 2 tickets. It was a short line & we got Circuit 2 tickets for the next day. They had about 100 tix for 2a and 30 for 2b when I got there, among lots of others for circuit 1 & 3.

Just wanted to share for anyone coming in & nervous about the ticket situation. The ticket situation is back to next day tickets if that helps- so if you’re looking to go on September 1, show up to the ministry on August 31 from 6am-10pm ish to try your luck. Tickets are not being sold two days in advance.

What's the recommended timing to do two circuits in the same day?

1A at 7am, would 2A at 9:30am be realistic?

Hi, wondering if anybody has any experience with the ticketing atm. Im arriving in AG tomorrow at midday, have circuit 1 booked already for the next day, and wondering the likelihood of getting circuit 2a tickets for the same day I go on 1st September from the ticketing office. TIA

I’m supposed to visit Machu Picchu on September 7, but because of a temporary mobility issue I may need to limit stairs, steep climbs, and uneven walking.

We currently have a higher panoramic circuit booked, but if we keep the trip, I’d switch to a lower/easier circuit if possible-that would let me spend more time inside the ruins without doing as much climbing. I heard at 2:00 PM the day before they release more tickets in person. Is that true?

For people who have actually been to Machu Picchu:
How much would I be missing by skipping the higher panoramic viewpoint?
Is seeing Machu Picchu from the higher viewpoint one of those experiences that really makes the visit, or is walking through the ruins on a lower circuit just as memorable in a different way?
If this might be my only trip to Machu Picchu, would you personally go now and do the easier/lower circuit, or postpone until I could comfortably do a higher route?
Are the lower circuits genuinely easier in terms of stairs and uneven terrain, or is there still quite a bit of difficult walking regardless?
I’m not asking whether I’m medically okay to do it. I’m specifically trying to decide whether the Machu Picchu experience itself is worth postponing if I can’t do one of the higher panoramic routes.
TL;DR: If you could either visit Machu Picchu now on a lower/easier circuit or postpone several months so you could do the higher panoramic viewpoint, which would you choose?

For the humantay lake and 7 colors mountain. I mean safety in term of everything, including safe trucks and drivers, I’ve heard the roads are pretty dangerous. Also I’ve heard some guides take you through dangerous hiking trails, instead of the safe ones.

25M, I purchased my circuit tickets, AC hotel room, and PeruRail tickets directly a few months back. My trip is mid-October, but I'm going through my itinerary in an effort to sanity check everything. It will be a packed day but I'm planning to get my rest in the night before.

Should I be concerned about the timing back for my train? From what I've read about the hike time it seems like a reasonable buffer, but there may be something I haven't considered. If it makes a difference, both circuits will be on a Saturday. I'm also hoping to skip a tour guide for both circuits so I can take my time.

My entry ticket to MP is at 7 AM and my train back to Cusco is at 2:55 PM. The question I have is whether this will be too rushed.

Hello, I am planning on doing the Salkantay Trek unguided in October. I have already booked the entry ticket to Machu Picchu and my flights to Cusco. I had originally planned to do the 4-Day trek thinking the days would mostly be longer, but realised later on that I would miss out on Llactapata. Due to the scheduling of my flights, I won't be able to start the trek any earlier. I am therefore debating whether to book a new entry ticket to Machu Picchu and do 5 days, or simply stick to the 4-Day plan. Is the site of Llactapata worth it?
