My cat does the same. For two weeks she loved her fancy 40 euro cool water fountain.
Now? Even with the heatwave continuing (and fountain always clean) she prefers to drink grimy water from my plant bottom saucers.

Why do I take personal offense when they do this? As if I'm a bad pet owner?
Another beloved cat not only drank from stale rain.puddles (but only when my friends were around) but had a cup obsession. Bowls and fountains of nice, fresh water were ignored so he could smush his head deep and flatten his whiskers in the deepest, narrowest glass laying around, forcing him in a very uncomfortable position, to access (as you say) the grossest 2 centimeters of vile old water.
We gave up and started leaving cups of fresh water around. Any cup he deemed too wide was rejected as a bowl.

I have caught this same cat drinking from the sink bottom or off of a dirty plate. So we have the fountain on the counter and her ice water next to it (this started because she became obsessed with drinking everyone’s ice water), but we once it is room temp water again, she usually then chooses the gross dog slobber water.

He has his own freakin "room" in his house that's furnished far more comfortably than mine. His own TV set to his favorite show. Knows how to operate things and manipulate/torture both his human slaves and other pets.
You have to check out Milo's antics. He is so cute and funny. I don't have a Instagram or tiktok account so typed in "MiloThe Chunk" into Youtube. The content is delightful. And diabolical.
Milo is very loving of his slaves but kinda scary with his machinations to his permitted non-human pets. Well edited, short clips with good commentary only when needed.

I think the owner said at one point in time that they bought it off Amazon or Temu thinking it was a regular size and forgot to look at dimensions and when it arrived and saw how small it was they gave it to the cat.

Milo is an absolutely adorable menace. If you don’t follow him, please do. He routinely tricks his golden retriever brother into the closet and closes the door. He also traps his sister Poppy (a void kitty) in places. He has a new apprentice kitten he seems to like better. He will soon have a new human brother or sister and I can’t wait to see his reaction.

My cat whines from his spot on top of my bookshelf if I am up late with the light on. He also comes to yell at me if I sleep in on a work day.
Of course I usually end up sleeping in because he decided he needed to be fed at around 4:30 in the morning, pretty consistently.

His version of cuddling is snuggling up to me while I brush him. If I stop, he starts pawing at the brush lol. I love him anyway, and the little guy I picked up in May is super cuddly sometimes, and they are best friends lol.

The bedtime routine starts cute, but it gets old. One of mine insists on dictating my bed time, but I have to get on the couch first. Then I can later move to the bedroom. On the couch, she wants a nap on my chest up against my chin, and after a bit she'll clean herself (yes, still right next to my face). Then once she's done, I am feeling to go to bed whenever I want, but I can only be on the couch or in bed, but she'll probably go between my legs (sometimes she stays on my chest if I stay on the couch).
At least I can watch tv until I'm ready for bed. No games though because her spot on my chest is on my right side partway on my chest and partway on my arm so I can't use my right arm. This little diva.

I think he's gone off of Maisy, she's too skittish for him.
Also, as he's never seen himself in the mirror, he got freaked out when he saw her blink - after Poppy, he'd just assumed that other cats don't blink.

Yeah, cats don't see these toys as their babies. They put it in their food bowl because of their instinct to cache food - they see them as prey. Toys satisfy predatory, not maternal, instincts. I doubt he was depressed without it. And these toys cost like 50 cents, just get a pack of 20 or so, you're going to lose them.

Yeah my cat had a favourite blue mouse for a few months. It disappeared suddenly and weeks later I found it and several other toy mice at the bottom of the toaster when something smelled off.
Motherfucker was cooking them for later.
That's also why they put them in water - they drown their prey sometimes. You see them pushing the toys down underwater and waiting for it to drown before putting it in the food bowl to simulate eating it.
It's not their baby it's their prey lol.

My cat used to do this with my hair ties. If I was looking for one, I would find one on her water bowl. Then I got annoyed she took all my favourite ones, so I bought a pack just for her to play with - she didn't care about those at all. When I ran out, I just started to wear those and suddenly, back in the water bowl.

I doubt the owner took away anything at all. They just edited different videos of what a cat normally does and add a story. The cat only looks “sad” because the captions say so. When in reality it was just chilling

My cat Daya has that exact same green ball and is exactly as obsessed with it. She gets so distraught when she can't find it, and her original one has been loved so much it's falling apart. So I have a backup stash of 6 more. She currently has three "active" green balls due to older ones going missing and getting replaced, then the old one turning up again, and she still carries all of them around.

Mine does too. It’s really interesting in that the green ball comes in a pack of 5 with other colors, and my cat only cares about the green one. She carries it around the house and will bring it to me and drop it on me. It’s really sweet. But yeah there’s something with those particular green balls that cats go crazy for.

My oldest boy does too!!!!
He has a few similar ones, but that green one is HIS BABY!!!! He loves it SO much, lol. It has also gotten lost a few times, and he is very sad. It's always under the bed, but it's really hard to get to, so sometimes it stays for a few days.
I also got him another, and a few other colors, but the original is his fav. Our babies are thee cutest :)

One of our cats had a favorite plushy toy until it went missing. So my wife found one online and bought. Wilson took one look and walked away. He came back a minute later with the original. He placed it next to the new one and give us the stink eye. He picked up the old one and hid it again. Totally ignored the new one.

Boba Fett passed away a year and two weeks ago, I still feel him lying on the bed sometimes at night... it was hard to have to go through that then and has been strange still. I am having to move and as I was packing things in my room, the corner that I never saw him in, I found his prized possession. When he was a kitten we had bought one of those big Christmas "stockings" with different cat-toys in it, out of all of those toys he had picked a little fuzzy pink mouse with a bluish-teal tail and black eyes. Over the years he had removed the eyes and the tail had been chewed on... i got a little emotional and showed the wife Boba's baby. It was a lot at the moment, when he had passed i had him cremated and he sits on my bedside table in his urn, i talk to him every day and I thought, since he would have had liked to have his pink mouse, I have opened his urn and now he has been reunited again. #CherishYourPets, #TheyArePeopleToo, #IMissMyBuddy, #IWillSeeHimAgainAtTheRainbowBridge

Such a good mama, this is adorable.
Our dog puts her favourite ball in her food bowl so they can share snack time.
She also loses her ball multiple times a day because she has no attention span.
So I have a small collection of the same ball, and can fish one out every time she comes to me having lost it, and we collect her lost ones regularly to refill the spares. She doesn't seem to know that they're different balls, she's just happy they somehow teleport to right behind me.

I've tried a variety of stuffed things with my cats, and none really took so to speak till I came home last fall with a clearance three pack of fall-related stuffed cat toys from Aldi. Each one was a hit, I brought out one per month in the fall, but when the third and final stuffed creature came out, a stuffed mushroom that looks suspiciously like the Mario Brothers mushroom, one of the cats latched, and harmony came to this hovel.

Our cat died a little over a year ago and also loved those. I just found one of his favorite multicolored ones when cleaning. it had gotten stuck under the couch it fell through the cushion and was stuck in the couch.

This reminds me of my boy Cinnamon I just recently had to put down. He had the same exact ball except it was orange like him. He did the same thing with it too. Carried it everywhere. You'd hear him in the middle of the night meowing at it distinctly different than his normal meows. Rest easy my friend.

One of my cats is like this but with orange fuzzy balls. We bought a box with a bunch of colors, thinking she would play with any. Nope, there were about 12 orange ones in there, and those are the only ones she will touch.
