ANIMALS Babysitter of the Year: Orangutan with playful tiger cubs after learning to feed them by watching its caretakers. I wonder what their mom has to say.

Please don't be AI please don't be AI

u/Trynabeagoodsnekdad 2d ago

It probably isn’t. Orangutans are HIGHLY intelligent and they learn best by watching others.

592

u/-Badger3- 2d ago

Okay, but humans are even more intelligent than orangutans and I see AI videos of them all them time.

166

u/Riklanim 2d ago

Evidence at times would suggest that depends on the human.

15

u/NORBy9k 1d ago

Trash cans at national parks are always an issue because there is a significant overlap between the smartest bears and the dumbest humans.

Maybe an orangutan made the video.

40

u/Worshipthekitty 1d ago

Guys chill. I am a tiger raised by a single orangutan mom and i turned out fine.

2

u/troll-filled-waters 21h ago

a single orangutan who works two jobs...

10

u/yellowlemonie 1d ago

In which case it would still be AI - Ape Intelligence…

3

u/Overall-Rub8945 1d ago

Freaking brilliant!!!🤣🤣

2

u/arthurno1 1d ago

Sounds better than rhe usualAI: Artificial Imcompetence.

77

u/Yippykyyyay 1d ago

I was at the National Zoo in DC and there was a pretty young baby orangutan. Mama seemed shy but when a bunch of young kids showed up, she walked over with her baby and showed it to the kids.

So sweet...

28

u/Remote_Sky_5942 2d ago

Extremely intelligent.

Thanks for the info. Had a suspicion something would be wrong.

Yeah, doesn't look like a good plan even though the comment is removed when you think about it something sus is going on here (edit: google 'truth orangutan and tiger cub' first article has the answers if you're wondering about the removed comments)

44

u/Cupcakes_n_Hacksaws 1d ago

Damn, that's sad; basically inbreeding the cats and keeping them emaciated so they look all "cute and cuddly" for the cameras

18

u/CORKYCHOPS 1d ago

This should be the top comment!!

2

u/BookCedarFirCoal 1d ago edited 1d ago

Comment conveniently [removed], I'm not doubting it's real but context would be nice. This seems like a bad idea in general.

Because the below link will probably be removed google 'truth orangutan and tiger cub' first article has the answers if you're wondering about the story, it is true the vid is 10 years old but it doesn't matter.

17

u/lafayette0508 1d ago

oh, so it's like a Tiger King kind of "sanctuary." That's too bad.

The angles change multiple times and all settings and animals look exactly the same. No way AI can do that. At least not yet...

This is one of those few times where even if it was, I would absolutely feign ignorance to live in bliss.

That said, I would believe this. Cheetahs are sometimes given dog companions to combat depression and to have a playmate that can keep up with them.

6

u/Tritri89 1d ago

I've seen this video before AI could make high quality videos. Not AI

6

u/Responsible-Stick-50 1d ago

I'm 90% sure it's not. I feel like there was a news story about this which then tied back to the deforestation happening in their areas.

10

u/Intelligent-Might614 2d ago

It's not AI, just animal abuse.

Anytime you see multiple species sharing a space like this it’s a clue that what you’re looking at is not a real zoo but either a roadside tourist trap that exploits animals for profit or some rich person who collects exotic animals. Not cute at all.

26

u/echo123as 1d ago

I mean yeah this looks like it but dont actual zoos also do this but with more compatible species

20

u/Tylith_ 1d ago

Yes, including humans in enclosures with felids and other potentially dangerous animals.

4

u/ElectricalExtreme793 1d ago

Yeah those are Gold Tigers, a rare genetic disorder that gets perpetuated through Inbreeding. Which happens almost exclusively in captivity by breeders

u/GeologistRelative425 1d ago

Awwww that's so cute, now I wonder what's keeping us humans from being caring towards other people (see this mom? Even orangutans can provide more care to an animal that isn't one of their species)

3

u/Next_Drama1717 1d ago

In Malay, the word ‘Orang’ means person and ‘hutan’ means forest. Put together, orangutan is person of the forest.
