They had a ‘battery of the month’ club where you could bring your card in and get a single battery. Well, some of the old folks who came were obviously on a very limited budget and would bring their card in to get a battery and then have a handful of change to try to buy a few more, say, double a batteries for their little hand held radio that they sometimes brought in also.
I’d pretend to mark their card and then drop a giant handful of batteries into their
little purchase bag. They’d look surprised and I’d give them a little smile and a nod and send them on their way.
