This is how I learn both that the "Lagniapple" in Monster Hunter is based on something real, and why it's called that. It's an item you can use to get slightly more rewards from a side mission thing, which makes sense in context.
I love when a game sneaks in a real-world reference that makes the whole thing click afterward. Finding out the name actually has meaning makes that little bonus reward feel even cooler!
