Tech TroubleShooting Marathon – Idea: Smart Loadout Profiles

Hey everyone,

The last time I played, I lost 3 or more matches in a row. That didn't bother me; dying is part of PvP. The problem was that I ended up spending more time putting my loadout together than actually playing.

Between head perks, leg perks, core perks, healing items, ammo, shields, attachments, and weapons, after several deaths you constantly have to go back into the menu and rebuild everything. When you don't have much free time, that friction becomes tedious.

In fact, the last time, that friction made me lose the motivation to keep playing at that moment. It doesn't mean I've lost interest in Marathon or that I want to stop playing. Quite the opposite: I want the game to grow, improve, and keep evolving, and I think these kinds of small frictions can affect the experience more than people realize.

And I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.

I also want to clarify something: I want to play with my own loadout. I want to choose my weapons, perks, and everything I bring because I trust what I'm doing, and I'm willing to put that loadout on the line every match.

I don't want the game to remove that risk.

I want to play more and be able to quickly get back into a match with the loadout I chose.

The Friction Cycle That Kills Motivation

It's not just tedious. It can also push players into a negative pattern:

  • You lose your loadout.
  • To avoid spending even more time rebuilding everything, you end up using the Sponsored Kit.
  • That kit doesn't reflect your playstyle or your favorite gear, so you play worse.
  • You lose more often.
  • You go back to the menu and repeat the cycle.

The result is a constant pattern of losses and tedious preparation, not necessarily because you're lacking skill, but because the loadout system interrupts your momentum and forces you to spend more time in the lobby than actually fighting.

That's why I propose a Smart Loadout Profile system.

Loadout Profiles

Allow us to save multiple profiles based on our playstyle:

  • Sniper
  • CQB
  • PvP
  • PvE
  • Exploration
  • etc.

The profile would save the weapons, perks, healing items, ammo, shields, and attachments we want to use.

Configurable Weapon Priority

Instead of simply marking one weapon as a favorite, we should be able to create a list of weapons in order of priority.

For example:

  1. Sniper A
  2. Sniper B
  3. Rifle C
  4. Shotgun D
  5. Rifle E
  6. Pistol F

The system would check what we have available and follow that exact order.

Is Sniper A available? Equip it.

Not available? Check Sniper B.

Not available? Check Rifle C.

And so on.

We should also be able to add as many weapons as we want and change their position in the list.

That way, every player can define their own priority:

"I want this one. If it's not available, use this one. If that one isn't available either, use this one."

This could also apply to perks, healing items, shields, and attachments.

Smart Substitution

If an item from the loadout is missing, the system could automatically use the next alternative we have defined.

For example:

Sniper A unavailable.

Using Sniper B.

Or:

Perk missing.

Using the next alternative from your profile.

The same system could apply to healing items, shields, attachments, and other loadout components.

Clear Information About Missing Items

The game should also clearly tell you what's missing.

Healing items missing.

Price: 200 credits.

And allow us to buy all missing items for the profile at once, showing the total cost beforehand.

Less Menu, More Gameplay

The idea isn't to give an unfair advantage or automate important decisions.

The player decides what they want to use and in what order.

The system simply handles rebuilding the loadout and using the next available option when something is missing.

For those of us who have responsibilities and limited free time:

Less time in the lobby means less tedious setup and more matches.

After dying several times, buying everything again, searching for every piece, checking perks, changing weapons, and rebuilding the loadout over and over can end up being more exhausting than the actual loss.

In my case, that friction ended my session at that moment, even though I wanted to keep playing, use my own loadout, and risk it again.

I don't want to abandon Marathon. I want to keep playing, and I want the game to grow, improve, and keep evolving. That's precisely why I think it's worth talking about these small things that can make a player close the game temporarily, not because they've stopped enjoying it, but because they've become tired of repeating processes that could be much faster.

Maybe this system isn't the perfect solution.

What system would you implement to solve this problem?

Would you improve loadout profiles, create a completely different system, or simply redesign the menu to reduce all these steps?

The goal should be simple:

Die → Rebuild quickly → Get back into the game with my loadout → Risk it again.

Not:

Die → Spend more time in the menu preparing everything again instead of playing → Lose the motivation to continue.

Does this happen to you too after playing many PvP matches in a row and losing?

Or do you eventually end up playing only with the Sponsored Kit just to avoid the hassle of rebuilding everything?

Do you think a Smart Loadout Profile system would solve this problem, or do you have a better idea?

LFG LFG - [DAD DUO SEEK LIKE-MINDED SOLO TO ADOPT] /CONSOLE/

We are so close to that full three man squad, I can taste it. Oddly enough, it tastes like a liquid cheeseburger. Go figure. I'll hit on the key points really quick:

* 10pm-1am CST most nights minus the occasional family obligation or sleep recovery night
* Try Hard skill bracket nestled somewhere between the Casual and the Sweat
* Enjoys every facet of the game: PvP, PvE, Lore, Loot, Tactics, Improvement, Endgame, Banter

The first point is easy to understand. If we can't play at the same time or if we can't play often enough, how we supposed to become best friends forever?

The second point is more obvious the longer you play together. Having a growth mindset, playing tactically, and effort can make up for a great deal, but at a certain point too large of a skill gap is problematic. The only way to be sure though, is to play together and find out.

The third point is making sure we have the same goals in the game. Marathon provides me a video game universe I can dive into that satisfies my science fiction cravings, challenges my PvE mechanics, and allows me to stretch my PvP Wings. And boy do I want to do all those things. We explore, research, gather, infiltrate, assault, defend, die, and improve pratically every run. All while being a pair of Chatty Cathies.

We're a pair of good dudes, dad dudes, looking for someone to run with so we can really go after the Cryo & Ranked adventures. So if you think you hit most of this criteria and you're looking for a dedicated team, let's run a few and try it out!

Tech TroubleShooting I invite you to play Marathon.

Marathon is a gem that many criticize without truly understanding it. It has servers in Latin America, rollback netcode that works excellently with ping between 0 and 60 ms, full translation and voice dubbing into multiple languages, organic character movement that feels natural, and solo, duo, and trio modes that don’t rely on broken matchmaking. Its graphics are beautiful and the sound design is excellent.

Its mechanics are clean: no bloom, precise and fair shooting, and unique details like the opponent ping that shows their armor so you can decide whether it’s worth engaging or retreating. It’s a game full of details that you only notice when you play it.

It’s not comparable to failures like Highguard or Splitgate Reload, because this one has solid infrastructure and has improved a lot since the last free access. I have faith in it: Marathon has everything to become a great competitive game and my favorite place.

I invite you to give it a chance, especially in solo and duo modes, which are my favorites.

Tech TroubleShooting You should remove trio mode

This mode should be removed because it brings nothing positive to the community. Most players use it just to play with a friend or a partner, while trios exist more out of convenience than genuine teamwork.

A clear example is streamers: they group up in trios only to unbalance matches. They don’t play as a real team; they exploit synergy to crush dysfunctional random squads and farm content for their videos.

That trio niche adds nothing of value. On the contrary, it increases toxicity, empowering low‑self‑esteem players who act like saboteurs and rage‑baiters. It’s one of the main reasons people gather in trios: not to compete fairly, but to abuse others.

Moreover, it unnecessarily fragments the community into modes that don’t make sense. The logical solution would be to keep only Solo and Duo modes, which would make servers feel fuller, more alive, and with more balanced matches. This way, one of the main sources of negative feedback about the game would be controlled.

And most importantly: with the current low player base, it’s simply not possible to balance competent teams against trios that join only to disrupt matchmaking.

Tech TroubleShooting Invisibility Is Killing Marathon’s Competitiveness

If invisibility is not removed, Marathon can never be considered competitive. This mechanic turns every encounter into a circumstantial event, where player skill is nullified and disrespected. Worse still, invisibility is amplified against those suffering from high ping: you literally get shot by invisible players with an extra 130 ms or more added, depending on latency. The result is a systematic abuse that destroys the integrity of the game and turns every duel into a farce. The solution is clear: this ability must be transformed into transparency, not invisibility, so that real counterplay exists and competitiveness is preserved.

Tech TroubleShooting Anyone else's Xbox randomly shutting down more after playing Marathon?

Since the release of Marathon, my Xbox Series X has started fully shutting down while playing. At first, it only happened while playing Cryo Archive, when I noticed that the console was running very loudly. I made sure my Xbox was in an open area with clear ventilation, but that didn't seem to help anything.

Last week, I opened my Xbox and cleaned out the dust from the heat sink and fan, and while I noticed my console was much quieter, I've still had multiple shut downs since. It's now even happening while playing other games like Space Marine 2.

I realize this may be correlation, but it's strange that I never had this issue until Marathon. It could just be the timing, as I got my Series X at console launch, so continual usage may have worn the console, and Marathon just happened to be what I was playing when it became an issue. But my friend recently switched from Xbox to PC after experiencing similar issues with Marathon.

If others are having similar experiences seemingly triggered by Marathon, then I think it's an issue worth raising. I had two crashes within two hours last night, and while it may not be fair to fully blame Marathon, it's proximity to the issue is certainly leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Tech TroubleShooting PLEASE HELP ME I KEEP GETTING KICKED OUT MID GAME DUE TO THE BATTLEYE: PLUM ERROR

I don't know what to do about this error, It's been coming up these past week and keeps closing me out of my match and making me reconnect to my match. It happens inside and outside of an actual match, no rhythm to it or certain thing I do to make it happen. Sometimes it's 5 min sometimes its 30 min. I haven't downloaded anything new recently at all either to make it do this. Im lost idk.

I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled, Uninstalled battleye and reinstalled it, I have renewed my IP and reset it like some forums suggest, I have set battleye to highest priority. Everything I have Driver / window wise is up to date.

Tech TroubleShooting The Marathon menu makes my GPU sound like it’s mining

My GPU gets pushed much harder in the menu than during an actual match. It literally sounds like it’s mining, and that can make some players think the game has a serious problem or is doing something it shouldn’t.

It’s especially ridiculous in an extraction shooter, because we spend so much time in the menus: checking inventory, preparing loadouts, managing gear, accepting contracts, etc.

There’s no reason for a relatively basic-looking menu to push the GPU this hard. This should be optimized and have an FPS/GPU usage limit.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Bug Report Stuck in cryo vault 1

Brought in gold misriah, shield, healbag to hit vault 1 with my squad only to get stuck in a corner unable to move. On top of that, my bag timer is glitched at 1 minute and can’t be revived.

Thank you bungie. Took some time to build this class up for it to be stripped away by nothing.

Bug Report No Regs

Can we get a fix on the no regs?

It's annoying to lose a fight due to them, especially in ranked.

Also there a bugs that haven't been addressed since season 1, like the thief visor bug against players for AMD cards. My teammate stood still mid-fight due to it and died, luckily we won.

There are many fixes needed for this game, and I just hope they get done.

I look forward to the future of this game.

LFG Any servers active for ranked and cryo? (PC)

I've had loads of ppl I've played with on my friends list but very few of them consistently so I've never had a solid team.

Anyone got a server that's actually active in Marathon for cryo and ranked? I've tried marathon lfg and the official discord but they're both pretty scarce

Tech TroubleShooting “Baboon” error

Anyone getting the title error when loading into a game? I wait my 5 minutes to find a match, and right before I’m about to hit the blue load in screen it boots me out of my game.

I even hear my new teammates speak for a few seconds before it’s over.

I’ve reset my router and Xbox multiple times now

**edit: it has now evolved to “anteater” error

Tech TroubleShooting Unfairly banned

So I’m not sure how to get help for this besides Bungie.net site. I was playing marathon while Claude code was doing work on an Xbox 360 emulator in the background. Something it ran must have tripped up battle eye, causing an instant perma ban? I got error code goji then was banned on my next logon. I would love to get this fixed if possible. I have been playing marathon since launch and destiny for years, I have NEVER cheated ever in either.

Tech TroubleShooting Does this happen to anyone else?

Am I the only one who feels like matchmaking prioritizes gear over connection quality?

When I farm, complete contracts, and finally bring a good loadout, I often end up on 150+ ms servers, even with “Best Connection” enabled. But when I use weak or sponsored gear, I usually get ~55 ms.

I’m not saying everyone with good gear gets bad ping, but in my case, the pattern happens way too consistently. If the system really is prioritizing gear value when forming matches, could you please fix this?

When I bring a good loadout, I expect a good connection because I’m investing my time and resources to win. Putting me on 150+ ms servers puts me at a huge disadvantage and can completely ruin the fight.

Does anyone else experience this, or is it just me?
