Parents of an only child, how do you keep your child busy?
I have a daughter around 5 years old, not been very long that we moved here. A couple and a child, ofcourse we barely know anyone here.
My daughter is super friendly (sometimes more than standard) and loves to talk to everyone and always wants a company around.
We do the best we can, but seems like its not enough and sometimes we too need our breathing space.
We buy her decent amount of toys and i fear this isnt a great solution.
Please any good advice, about how can we engage her socially? We couldnt afford summer camp this year though. Anything that i may be missing kids workshop or events.
regards..

Moving to Markham from toronto (fam of 4)
We are moving from Scarborough to Markham to get into a better school area.
We love the convenience of Scarborough proximity to high ways etc but our local school has a very poor rating.
We are trying to find a good school area that isn’t too far away from the city.
We have looked at legacy and boxgrove and even Cornell.
Any suggestions on the schools in those areas ? Are they not the best school areas ?

Should Markham subreddit have a stickied power outage/internet down thread?
Every few days there is a post about rogers being down or power outage - hoping with this poll the mods will get a sense of what the subreddit community wants

Scooter boy was scooting down the busiest area of McCowan by Markville before turning on a side street. This kid must have a death wish. Can’t we ban these things already?

Car scraped at Markville parking lot
Hey everyone,
Just seeking some group insight/advice!
I was at Markville Mall for a couple hours today, and when I came out I noticed a pretty sizeable scrape and dent on my car. I sort of inspected the neighbouring vehicle, but didn’t really see any scrapes or marks on it. This is the first time something like this has happened to me, so in the moment I wasn’t really thinking clearly about what I should or could do about it. It was also just after the mall’s closing time, so I didn’t think it would be fruitful to go in and ask guest services about any potential avenues for support. Does anyone know if the mall’s guest services or security office would possibly help with security camera footage for this type of thing?
Thank you in advance for your insight!

Max Bakery
Just wanted to share a hidden HK style bakery gem I recently learned about on Copper Creek! I have absolutely no affiliation with the owners, I’m just a very happy customer who wants to see this place succeed, and because East Markham needs more good stores and restaurants!
I learned about them last week via a Facebook post. The owners have learned about the post after the influx of customers and support the day after the post and have been genuinely grateful for all the new customers and support. So I'm hoping to continue this trend for them via Reddit.
The store is a true mom and pop shop, the owners are kind and friendly, which makes the experience even better. They make fresh buns daily, and they usually put out fresh batches at around 12–1 PM, and another around 3 PM. Buns are 6 for $12, or $2.20ea, cash only. They sell the classics, pineapple buns, coconut, raisin bread, sausage buns..etc. and when you know the hours fresh buns come out of the oven, the buns they sell you are literally hot, straight out from the oven. You smell this store blocks away!
They’re open 10:30 AM–9:30 PM. It’s not really your typical sit-down/pretty-display bakery, you basically grab the buns from their racks. And each time I've gone, the owners will actually bag it for me. They said part of their business is to supply buns to restaurants. They’ve been at this location for about 1.5 years, after moving over from Scarborough where they've been in business for a long time.
They also mentioned that they’re working on increasing the variety of items they offer. So Reddit, please go support them! 😂 I’m selfishly hoping that more customers means they’ll expand their selection because I would love fresh egg tarts in my life.
Anyway, just wanted to share because I love seeing small local businesses get some love, especially when the owners are this lovely.❤️
Edit 1: I thought cash only but their IG shows that they might take credit and debit
Edit 2: following their IG may be the way to learn which buns come out!

Anyone know of places in Markham that let teens lead/start youth programs?
I’ve been trying to find a volunteer role where I can help run a small STEM program for high school students, but Markham Public Library’s interview slots are already full for the season. I’ve also checked out some other municipalities, but like others like Richmond Hill have a residency requirement.
If anyone know of community centers, youth organizations, nonprofits, or other places in Markham that might be open to a student starting a new club/program and taking on a leadership or executive role, I'd appreciate you telling mee.
I just want to actually get started and have the opportunity to start my own thing and be involved in it. By the way I'm a high school student. Thanks.

I visited my in law today and spotted a shiba inu roaming free in the neighborhood, no leash, no owner.
I hope it is not a lost dog. Our neighbourhood is in white lotus circle.
