Max Bakery
Just wanted to share a hidden HK style bakery gem I recently learned about on Copper Creek! I have absolutely no affiliation with the owners, I’m just a very happy customer who wants to see this place succeed, and because East Markham needs more good stores and restaurants!
I learned about them last week via a Facebook post. The owners have learned about the post after the influx of customers and support the day after the post and have been genuinely grateful for all the new customers and support. So I'm hoping to continue this trend for them via Reddit.
The store is a true mom and pop shop, the owners are kind and friendly, which makes the experience even better. They make fresh buns daily, and they usually put out fresh batches at around 12–1 PM, and another around 3 PM. Buns are 6 for $12, or $2.20ea, cash only. They sell the classics, pineapple buns, coconut, raisin bread, sausage buns..etc. and when you know the hours fresh buns come out of the oven, the buns they sell you are literally hot, straight out from the oven. You smell this store blocks away!
They’re open 10:30 AM–9:30 PM. It’s not really your typical sit-down/pretty-display bakery, you basically grab the buns from their racks. And each time I've gone, the owners will actually bag it for me. They said part of their business is to supply buns to restaurants. They’ve been at this location for about 1.5 years, after moving over from Scarborough where they've been in business for a long time.
They also mentioned that they’re working on increasing the variety of items they offer. So Reddit, please go support them! 😂 I’m selfishly hoping that more customers means they’ll expand their selection because I would love fresh egg tarts in my life.
Anyway, just wanted to share because I love seeing small local businesses get some love, especially when the owners are this lovely.❤️
Edit 1: I thought cash only but their IG shows that they might take credit and debit
Edit 2: following their IG may be the way to learn which buns come out!

Oh so that's where they moved to. They used to be at the midland and finch plaza in scarborough.

I also learned about Max Bakery from that Facebook post. Dropped by yesterday and man they are so friendly! Would definitely call in to find out what's being baked before going. Buns are cheaper than many other places and so delicious made fresh daily. I was so impressed and I'll definitely be back.

The IG account has the son trying to learn the business to retire his parents…

That makes sense. I actually stumbled upon this location earlier in the week when I was in the area for something else. When I walked in, the son asked me if I had heard about them online as well. They're awesome though, definitely a new found favourite!

Was interested in going as I go to that area every now and then but this is a dealbreaker. They don't take debit?

Sorry, Their IG shows that they might!

I quickly checked could not locate anything indicating accepted payment. Well if you can let me know I'd check it out.

I think they're working on a credit/debit solution but not installed yet. Assume it's still cash only till they make an announcement 😂

Thanks. I can't even remember the last time I paid cash for something. I know some bakeries only take debit as they want to avoid the cc fee I believe

Promise you it's worth breaking a $20bill for!, esp when you can get it fresh, soft and hot!🤤

OMG, it’s real? I live nearby and noticed it ơn the map a few months ago but I thought it was a map error or something because all the photos show that it was in a different locations (like Finch and Midland) so I never stopped by.
What variety do they have? It looks like one of those old school HK bakery with only those classic ones like pineapple bun, cocktail bun, etc. you’re saying they don’t have egg tart?

No egg tarts yet. They said the plan is to increase variety and bring in more items such as egg tarts in the future. It seems to me like while they are experienced, they are still learning about business in this location.

I’m following them on IG now, and I love seeing how quickly people are clearing them out! I'm glad to hear you are all liking this bakery too!
I honestly didn’t realize they were still baking fresh buns so late in the day. Such hardworking people... And they are so kind! It’s businesses like this that remind me why supporting local is so important. ❤️
I also learned from their account that their grandfather started the business at Brothers Bakery by Pacific Mall. I love learning this history because my relatives, who no longer live in Canada, still talk about visiting that bakery over 30+ years ago. They’d reminisce about walking there to pick up their buns and milk tea.
There are so many bakeries around now, but I’ll always have a soft spot for the traditional classics. A well-made, delicious bun beats all the trends, bells, and whistles. Sometimes, simple really is best.

Edit: I saw that the owner came across my post. So I'll say here, I’m just genuinely grateful to see you doing so well and that more people are able to also appreciate your bakery and your family's craft. Sorry that the influx of customers tired you guys out❤️ No need for anything in return, I’m simply happy to support, spread the word and enjoy your delicious, fresh and hot HK buns!
When I was young my relatives would bring me to Brothers Bakery. I recall the fresh hot buns were just the best. Nothing ever beat that, even if it was the same bun at room temperature, I would yearn for that fresh hot one... And there's the experience of the smell walking to the bakery, the taste of a fresh buns...., the satisfaction🐷 Being able to enjoy what my relatives enjoyed makes me feel closer to them. Being able to experience that childhood feeling again warms my heart enough. Being able to enjoy your family's craft passed down from generations, and being able to enjoy that craft with my family from generations... Thank you. I wish you all the success!

11 Villa Ada Dr, Markham, ON L6B 1N7
It's a shop under the homes. A true "hidden gem" because its at the back corner of Villa Ada Dr, so actually hidden and a gem

They are open at 10:30am, does that mean I have to wait until 12pm to get fresh buns?

is there bbq pork bun?

u/daytime-circuit 2d ago
Everytime I've gone, buns have been different. It all depends on what comes out of oven, and I didn't ask to see if they have a buns schedule. You can call to ask, they said they will hold buns for you.

Just hilariously untrue, trying to disparage another small business while putting up another one

This place was picked as the favourite bakery of the Toronto chef interviewed in Saturday's Star .
