News Mother forced to self-deport, leaving behind two sons with rare neurodegenerative disease and teen daughter
tcpalm.comAmid the bustle of travelers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was a family holding back tears.
Magdalena Jimenez Juan sat with her four children, ages 15-31, and a family friend. Each waited silently until it was their turn to say goodbye. Each hug freed them to cry.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement ordered her to board a deportation flight to Guatemala on Aug. 27 after 18 years of permitting her to live in the United States. It may be years until she sees her children again, whose fate is uncertain.
Taking them with her is out of the question, the family said. Sons Yoni, 18, and Rafa, 31, share a rare genetic neurological disorder. Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease damages the peripheral nerves in their limbs, reducing their strength and sensory function over time. Yoni also has scoliosis and is deaf in one ear, so Rafa does most of the talking on his behalf.
“Caring for him and his brother is a full-time job,” Magdalena said in Spanish. “It would be even harder to care for them in Guatemala.”

Discussion I gave up on dating in Miami
When I say that all the cute guys and gym bros and finance types are in my DM I mean it but they often don’t even know how to have a conversation. When I’m out and about I see these same losers staring at me while with their wives and girlfriends and you know what I’m over it . Men of Miami want the insecure girls and I just can’t play those games . So forget Pilates I’m going to eat pizza and buy a cat and be happy and fat lmao . Enjoy

Picture / Video Help me find a home for these sweet doggies
❤️ LOVING HOME NEEDED FOR TWO SWEET DOGS ❤️
A lady I know is looking for a loving, safe, and permanent home for these two beautiful dogs. 🐾 They are very special dogs who deserve a family that will love and care for them for the rest of their lives.
It was a very difficult decision for her to remove them so please don't criticize.
I would take them but I myself have a senior kitty at home who doesn't do well with dogs.
🙏 We would love to keep them together if possible, as they are bonded and have each other.
We are looking for a responsible adopter who is committed to providing a loving, safe, forever home. Please do not contact if you are not prepared for the responsibility of caring for a dog long-term.
If you or someone you know may be the right person for them, please send me a private message for more information, photos, and adoption details.
Please share — the right person may be one share away. ❤️🐾

Discussion Does speaking fluent Spanish make it easier to meet people (and women lol) in Miami?
I know a lot of people here criticize the dating scene and the stereotypes surrounding Miami, which is actually why I wanted to ask.
I’m mainly curious about how things work in real life and whether speaking Spanish fluently makes a meaningful difference.
For some background, I’m French and I’ve been living in Colombia for several years. I visited Miami for three days last year, but that was obviously way too short to really get a feel for the city.
I’m planning to come back soon. I really enjoyed the vibe, and I found the idea of being in the US while speaking Spanish and meeting Latinos from all over the place pretty amazing, even though I know that aspect of Miami can annoy some people.
I’m not desperately looking for dates
that’s definitely not my main goal.
I really enjoy spontaneous interactions in real life, (something that’s much more common here in Colombia than in Paris, where people tend to be colder) going out and discovering places that aren’t the usual tourist spots.
I actually prefer that to social media and dating apps, which I find completely messed up and unbalanced for all sorts of reasons even though it can be quicker and easier to meet people that way.
I’d just like to hear your perspective, because I know very little about your city and I assume the social and dating dynamics are probably quite different from what I’m used to.

Discussion Any Brazilians with a business in Miami (or Florida in general)?
I have a couple of businesses in Brazil and I'm wondering if there is any Brazilian in this sub with a business in Miami or Florida in general. I have some questions about the differences between running a business in Brazil vs in the US, specifically Florida since I'm planning on opening my next business (hair treatment clinic) in Florida.

Community Selling Empire of the Sun Tickets 9/16
Empire & the Sun at Bayfront Park 9/16. Polo & Pan are opening.
Bought the tickets 6 months ago and can no longer go. Fuck Ticketmaster and all the sites charging fees. I would rather sell using paypal with goods & services protection (only a 1.5% fee) or we can meet in person and exchange.

September 2026: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife and Restaurant Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.
Miami is a popular destination not only to travel to but to move to and live. If we don't separate out these posts, the main feed becomes quickly inundated and overrun. So please utilize the resources here and comment here for these topics.
Always keep in mind please, WE ARE NOT VACATION PLANNERS OR MOVING CONSULTANTS. Be descriptive and we'll help if we can, but no one is obliged to.
Other Great Resources (Locals use these too!)
Google Maps reviews are getting less reliable over the years. And in fact several lists on these sites are in fact inspired by posts on this sub.
- Miami and Beaches (the most official source for tourism info in this list with the least instagrammy or "sponsored" feel)
- New York Times 25 best Miami Restaurants list (curated by a local)
- Miami New Times
- Infatuation Miami
- TimeOut Miami
- Neighborhood map - moving guide (made by us!)
- Tourism map (also made by us!)
"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you
- Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.
"I'm coming for a trip" -you
- Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New Times, Infatuation Miami.TimeOut Miami, Miami and Beaches. We're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!
"I just wanna party" -you
- Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.
"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you
- It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.
"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Community HELP! trying to remember a restaurant that served fried fish on south beach
Hey Miami,
I'll be in town next week and desperately trying to remember this restaurant with the best fried fish I ever had back in 2021 in south beach. The restaurant had old school heinz glass bottles and didn't look updated since the 80s but that fish was the best I ever had!
Please help this newly married couple find it!

Discussion Promoter with all girl group + 1 guy whats the deal?!
Need help! Asking the people from Miami and people that have gone clubbing there.
When I went to NYC with my girlfriends (typical blonde Swedish girls and mixed girls all very pretty) we could get on guestlists/tables for the box and other clubs even though I was a guy (albeit gay but maybe thats irrelevant hahah). We did the typical write on insta to promoters that were recommended by local friends.
So what is the situation in Miami? Cause its gonna be me as a guy + 3-5 girls. I dont wanna join the trip if its going to be a problem going out to clubs there and I dont know if the promoters are very different in Miami vs NYC???
