As a forty-year old man living in the suburbs of a Midwestern city, it is now required that I begin caring about my lawn and purchase a porch goose for my wife to dress up (I know, big yikes, but who are we to fight the arrow of time?). Berrien County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) deputies said they rescued a 7-year-old boy from South Bend, Ind., who went missing in the water while swimming at Silver Beach County Park Monday before 9 p.m., but despite efforts to save his life at the hospital, he died later Monday night.

First responders and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the initial call and found him near shore at 10:08 p.m., about an hour after he went missing. Deputies said he died at the hospital Monday at 11:15 p.m.

I am on the board for the non-profit Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers, and with approval from the moderators of the sub, I wanted to reach out to you all and see if who would be interested in taking a leadership role to expand passenger rail in Michigan.

There are openings on our executive board (and of course always in our membership!), and we are taking applications for the next few weeks for anyone who wants to help. Whether you have a ton of experience in advocacy or would like to take an active part in Michigan’s passenger rail, we’d love to hear from you!

MARP’s 12-member Executive Committee is the budgetary, planning and policy recommending body for the organization. We meets monthly, usually online. Members are elected to 2-year terms at the Annual Meeting of the membership which will be held this year on Saturday, October 24, at Durand Union Station.
