Discussion Monthly Rant/Politics Thread: Do not post political threads outside of this Mega thread

Outside of these mega-threads, we generally do not allow political posts on the main subreddit because they have often declined into unhinged discussions and mud slinging. We do allow general discussions of politics in this thread so long as you remain civil and don't attack someone just for having a different opinion. The moment we see things start to derail, we will step in.

Got something upsetting or overwhelming that you just need to shout out to the world? Want to have a political debate over current events? You can post those thoughts here. There are many real problems that plague the Millennial generation and we want to allow a space for it here while still keeping the angry and divisive posts quarantined to a more concentrated thread rather than taking up the entire front page.

Discussion I love that my DRs are shifting largely toward millennials

1.1k Upvotes

My first one was my eye dr, he was around my age. I was wearing a vaguely gaming tshirt at the time, and we ended up talking about World of Warcraft for 15 minutes before the eye tests.

The second was a podiatrist. I had been dealing with a reoccurring pain for 5 years, and drs kept calling it tendonitis. She took some looks at my foot and said "Dude, you have gout". And I told her "But I've been tested and it was negative." She replies, "Get tested again, because you have gout." She was right.

Last night my cat was drooling from the mouth, hypersalivating. I was trying not to panic, but when I saw her start wobbling and walking funny, I immediately scooped her up and took her to the ER vet. The er dr was a pregnant millennial. My cat is afraid of EVERYONE. Normally at the dr she just lays subdued and waits for it to be over, but she immediately started rubbing up against the dr. The Dr explained that cats understood she was pregnant and they instinctually feel safe around other pregnant animals. But more importantly she immediately diagnose my cat. She looked at me and said "Hey, I think this looks like THC".

I take THC for anxiety, it never even occurred to me that it could affect my cat. I mean of course it can, but its just not something I thought about. The best I can figure is I touched her shortly after touching a gummy. Or sometimes I do lean in and give her a quick peck on the fur. I could imagine having done that shortly after eating it that evening. The dr wasn't concerned but of course stressed it could be much more serious in a larger quantity. But she said everything without any judgement. She understood. She was so kind, and smart, and warm, and most importantly my cat loved her.

It's just the confidence and the relatability of millennials. They know how much they know, and they've reached the age where they are confident to assert it.

I love that millennials are taking over healthcare, and I hope you all have a chance to get hooked up with a millennial dr soon.

Other Watching Fern Gully with my kid and I heard the voice of Robin Williams (the bat!) 😔

That’s all. This movie is so familiar to me but I forgot or maybe never knew that Robin Williams was the bat. Hearing his voice transported me to different times. Then I felt a little sad. R.I.P. 🖤

I’m 35M. Recently, I feel like my career, bank balance is not where I initially planned it to be by this time. Also, I don’t know if I will be any successful. But I really want to push for it. Do you guys think the same or am I overthinking ? Please share your thoughts.

Other How many millennials read “Johnny the Homicidal Maniac” or other stuff by Jhonen Vasquez?

He made ‘Invader Zim’ for Nickelodeon. I lived in a rural area, so it was almost impossible to get my hands on any kind of comic or graphic novel, but I found it a few years after it was published. I think in a Barnes and Noble.

Discussion How much are we paying for haircuts these days?

M/F/nb….long hair, short hair, facial hair or not…how much do you pay for what you’re getting?

*And yes, this assumes a US audience unless you’d like to also help me with the conversion math since numbers and I have a tenuous relationship.

I found this time magazine from 2009 that talks about how the 2000s was “the decade of hell” and that the 2010s would be better. The one thing that this magazine didn’t cover is that how the pop culture of the 2000s mostly sucked.

Discussion What are you excited about?

Genuine question.

I know they’ll be a lot of sarcastic and nihilistic responses because life does in fact suck in a lot of ways for a lot of us these days.

And while there are many things I wish were different, here are some things I’m currently excited about:

- Going whitewater rafting this weekend for the first time in 5 years.

- A three day weekend with my husband and son and taking him to a new indoor play place.

- Just watching my son learn and grow in general.

- Some of my favorite TV shows returning this month.

What about you guys? What are some things you’re excited about, big or small?

Discussion Is driving in silence a "getting older" thing?

I have been doing a lot of driving lately for work. The other day I had a two hour commute both ways. When my podcast ended and I eventually noticed nothing was playing, I decided I was enjoying the quiet time to think. I ended up happily driving in silence for over an hour. Back in the day I would NEED music playing and HATED more than anything when my parents listened to talk radio. I suppose I would consider a podcast equivalent to talk radio. But never in a million years would I have imagined myself raw dogging a car ride by choice. Anyone else?

Meme Jim Carrey as Vanilla Ice on "In Living Color" 😂😂

Jim Carrey’s legendary parody of Vanilla Ice on the sketch comedy show In Living Color is one of the most famous pop-culture roasts of the 1990s. Airing in 1991 during the height of the rapper's fame, the musical sketch titled "White, White Baby" brilliantly skewered the hit song "Ice Ice Baby".
