Best Italian food with good white sauce options?

My fiancee and I's anniversary is coming up, and we moved here recently and haven't had much chance to explore. So I want to surprise her with a really nice Italian dinner around here (Italian is here favorite), but she is allergic to tomato. And every single place I've found so far rather has zero or only 1 white sauce option

Anyone have any suggestions for places here in the metro that have good food and atmosphere with more than 1 white sauce option?

Quantum Fiber mass outage or not?

I'm in north Minneapolis, and my fiber service has been out since early Monday morning. Their website confirmed a mass outage at my street address affecting 1,100 people. So I waited.

After a few hours, I called Quantum. They told me no mass outage, despite what their own website says. They scheduled a tech to come to my house. He arrived today. He checked the fiber at my basement, outside my house, and in the alley. He confirmed no signal at my house or at equipment at the end of my block. So apparently it is some kind of mass outage, despite what the service tech said on the phone earlier.

I don't see any news stories about it. Who else with Quantum fiber has been without service since early Monday? Just how big is this outage? I live a few blocks from Penn & Broadway.

Road trip from Moorhead to Rochester - what stops are musts?

Spouse and I are going into a concert in Rochester MN on Tuesday sept 15, driving from Moorhead mn. We will stay in Rochester that night (haven’t got a hotel yet) and have dinner pre-concert at Thai Pop since that looks like one of the best restaurants in town, and drive home Wednesday. I would like to make the drive home interesting and fun, adding some stops along the way and am not opposed to going slightly out of our way for things. I already have some places we will definitely be going to - milk and honey cider near st Cloud, and Stillwater for a little antique shopping and the famous knitting shop there (I’m a knitter). Is driving up the Mississippi highway instead of through mpls worth it? Any scenic overlooks to stop for? Favorite restaurants to stop at? Any recommendations for fun novelty stops on this trip? Thanks in advance!

Where can I buy a formal dress that isn’t a million dollars??

Update: since many have asked, I’m looking for:
Black, floor length (as requested for family by the bride), size 12/14 or XL
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP 😭 wedding is Thursday and I’m stressing.

I have a black tie wedding this week and the dresses I have ordered are not working for me. I have already spent a ton on a dress rental that didn’t fit and did that to avoid paying hundreds for a dress that I’ll wear once. But here we are!

Any known consignment shops in the area that could have what I’m looking for??

I’m 35… so not looking for a homecoming dress 😝

Activities at breweries

We’re moving to Minneapolis and I’ve been getting the weekly roundup emails. I’ve noticed a lot of activities I’m interested in are at breweries. I don’t drink, but I’m happy to buy root beer, sodas, etc. Are the breweries in the area typically ok with that if I’m there for a gathering? Thanks.

Mode Festival Question

I came across this festival through Vince Staples tour schedule. It is basically a photography/industry festival with a few musical acts. I hestitate to buy a ticket because day passes seem a bit expensive if you just want to attend single show. But my real concern is the venue for the performance is not listed on festival's schedule. I would appreciate if anyone has some inside info about the festival and could share specifics.

Saw 3+ car windows broken on S. Aldrich this morning, any way to minimize risk?

I'd really love to avoid my window getting broken, so anyone have tips (other than having a garage)?

Do they hit the same block multiple times or avoid major streets like Lyndale?

Question about Vegan East

Thanks so much for answering my request to find Minneapolis-themed shirts. I have one more question/s for you.

We were wondering if Vegan East has any small savory options for brunch. If not, we’re just looking for something small and vegan to eat before we head to all the places. We’re getting Herbivorous Butcher for dinner. Thanks very much!

Towed Vehicle Drama

Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone is aware of any sort of way or rectifying this situation.

My car was towed, and yes it should have been, not arguing that. It was parked in a longer term parking spot, but I apparently exceeded that, not arguing on legality of the tow. However, https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/168B.06 states I must be given notice within 5 days of the towing. I've never received the notice to this day. The notice was sent by the tow operator 4 days after it was towed, but the letter was not attempted for delivery until ~14 days later, curiously the day after I randomly noticed my car wasn't there and paid to receive it from the tow lot. The next day I went to the post office per the notice in my mailbox (certified letter) and they couldn't locate the letter. I received one more subsequent attempted delivery and did the same thing and they couldn't locate the letter and said it was already being returned to sender.

Because I wasn't given notice within 5 days, I racked up substantial storage fees, which I wouldn't have, have I been given notice according to the law. I've since sued the tow operator for not operating in accordance with law, and my case was dismissed with the judge saying that the operator acted in accordance with law and that usps delays can happen and it's not ideal. I never received notice of this dismissal (signed up for email alerts) and am now unable to appeal. I think this is a thoroughly wrong ruling as to this day, I have not been 'given notice' of a tow. They may have given it to the usps via certified (but not guaranteed) mail, but that shouldn't be my problem.

Is anyone aware of any recourse here? This seems blatently disingenous on many levels

Door Installation Companies?

Hello! Looking to replace my front door with a new door and a storm door. I live in St Louis Park. Looking for some recommendations of places that will do a good job for under $2k (if thats feasible). I was thinking of TWS but I just read they do a high pressure sales presentation and that their reviews for door and windows are pretty poor.

Thanks in advance!

Xcel energy fees

Post image
269 Upvotes

I live in a 1 bed apartment in an older building in Minneapolis. I have 1 AC window unit that I'm judicious about turning on because of the cost. I use $38 of energy for the month, but my total due is almost double that at $72 with all the extra fees. Make it make sense.

PS I'm poor, which is why I'm complaining. I've seen other posts about $200-$300 Xcel bills for folks living in houses, etc. I know my $72 could be worse, especially for a summer month. But I also know things could be better.

Edit: Thank you dearly to those who've reached out to help pay. I didn't mean for this post to be about collecting money from you. I am moved that we are here to support each other during these tough times, that we are still willing to help one another even when the US is falling apart around us.
