I’ve recently started r/WhereToMoveAbroad and I’m brand new to actually running a subreddit rather than just using Reddit.

I’m trying to build it into a useful community for people figuring out where to move abroad, but I don’t want to annoy people by over-promoting it or sending loads of invites.

For anyone who’s grown a community from zero, what actually worked in the early days? Did you focus mostly on posting consistently, inviting relevant users, crossposting, working with other mods, or something else?

Also, anything you wish you’d done differently when your subreddit was new?

im getting a lot of accounts that are a year or more old with zero karma with their first post being in my subreddit and im wondering if that means anything and what i should do! for example just had someone recently post their first message after 5 years of no posts or content

3+ accounts (we've only been able to find 3, but we KNOW there are more because she made an account or all of her ai OCs on her profile)

I am the mod of the subreddit.

I go to the Ban Evader report page.

I send in all the information.

It gives me the red error at the top of the screen.

Edit: This is getting bad. How do I fix this error issue?

Who am I is a tool that allows users to check their community karma through a (...) menu option.

Moderators can optionally set karma limits in the mod panel (in a menu option), optionally display them to users, and automatically add them to the automod config if wanted.

I was just removed as moderator, with no warning or explanation. This doesn't make any sense.

I managed to get myself into a bit of a Reddit account/mod situation and could use some help figuring out how to fix it.

I have two separate communities and two accounts:

• r/MidnightMisfits49801 is one community. My ShitshowPending account currently only shows as a regular user there, but I need u/ShitshowPending to have moderator access.

• u/ShitshowPending is a completely separate community. My r/MidnightMisfits49801 account has moderator access there, but that account was shut down and I can no longer use it.

Basically, the account I can actually use needs moderator access to r/MidnightMisfits49801, and right now I don’t have a usable moderator account there to make the change myself.

Is there a way to get u/ShitshowPending added/restored as a moderator of r/MidnightMisfits49801 when the previous account is no longer accessible?

Any help would be appreciated because I have apparently created my own tiny Reddit identity crisis. 😂

At certain posts, political or ICE related, we ask for minimum sub karma before we allow users to post. This way drive-by accounts have no chance to spew hate and leave again.

It works quite well but someone had to go through the queue and remove all posts and ban users under said rules.

It would be great if there would be a tool that would be tied into crowd control and don't even allow someone without the minimum karma requirements to be allowed to post.

I know you guys say automod but this is for certain posts only and not the whole sub.

Got a weird one. About a week ago, I banned a user for rule breaking. I meant to do 5 day, but accidentally did permanent. Next day I unbanned them. Now a week later user says they can't post or comment. It shows them unbanned. But, if I tap the ban button in modmail, and do permanent (tried to ban and unban to see if that helps), theres a red error message bar that says Something Went wrong. Ok, I open the ban user menu on old reddit, enter their name, click ban and I get error occurred (status: 500). I tried to add as approved user, and also got a 500 error. Seems like something went wrong with the first unban a week ago and now he's in some state of banned/unbanned.

I mod a handful of subreddits. I just noticed that for one of them, the option to enable Reputation Filter for comments is not available--using neither sh. nor www . It doesn't even appear.

I am able to configure post filtering but not comments, while in other subreddits I am given both options.

Why might this be happening?

I agreed to be a backup mod for a subreddit a while back, just in the case of the main mod losing their account. The main mod took the sub private a little over a week ago but carried on approving posts and comments as normal, then suddenly stopped all activity and I only noticed when I realised there was a large queue of join requests. I dont have full permissions and am now the only active mod. There are other sub members who would be happy to join the mod team if I added them. What can we do from here. I dont want to remove the original mod in case they have had a personal emergency or something and return but I also dont want to continue moderating alone with limited permissions

Hi, i was recently kicked out of my own subreddit. I'am the creator of the subreddit. Not sure how this is possible. Their was one other mod in that subreddit, from what I heard his account got hacked and is kicking everyone out of all the other subreddit he is modding for. My account is not inactive, I posted 2 days ago. How do I get my subreddit back?

Hoping I can get some advice here. I run r\analfistula which is a medical condition that often requires multiple surgeries. Long story short there is a clinic that I believe is preying on desperate people. This clinic monitors our subreddit and for years has post spam propaganda of them posing as patients who have had successful surgeries with them (I cannot prove these are from them, but without a doubt I do know it’s them). Now their clinic has messaged mods privately stating they want to report our subreddit to Reddit to have us removed for harassment because we have allowed people to post their negative experiences from their clinic also stating they reported us to some online cyber people in India. I have made a new rule stating we cannot name specific doctors and clinics at all anymore to hopefully avoid further issues, but is there anything I should be doing here to maintain our subreddit in case they do actually try to elevated to have us banned?

If I create a subreddit as private, can I make it public at a later time, after some posts?

Title says it all. I have a user in one of my subs, which has evasion-guard and Reddit's own evasion filters, who somehow always manages to get through. I know this because every time I catch them, they brag about it in modmail.
Is there a way to report the user to admins somehow, so they can somehow see how this user keeps coming back?

My subreddit r/Chubbyish has only two mods. The top mod is showing as inactive. I don't have Everything access even though the top mod has said she has granted it to me the same day she made me a moderator.

I need help either getting everything access or having our mod order changed. Spam is ruining the subreddit.

Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right place to come for help but it's a first step: we have a user that we are trying to ban from our sub. His profile shows that he is banned from the sub yet he is still able to post in our daily thread. When we go into his user profile and try to unban him so we can reban him again, it says successfully unbanned but then his profile still shows the red "unban user" text. Is there a higher up somewhere who can help us permanently ban this user from our page and have it actually stick? Thank you in advance for your help

I was the moderator of a sub.

It was a community centered around Reticulum Network. It's basically a networking protocol stack similar to the Internet Protocol networking stack. The difference being that the Reticulum stack is used to build privacy-focused networks that can operate over LoRa, Ham Radio etc.

Anyways, the project founder closed the community and deleted all posts without warning. He also kicked out the only other active mod, a.k.a me.

I haven't bothered trying to open communication with the moderator. This is because something similar has happened before when this individual took the community private without consulting with me or the other mod who was still active back then. He also closed the project's Matrix server earlier and deleted the messages there.

Unlike the founder, I've got no direct relation to the project. I just had some bandwidth and rhe community size felt manageable to me so I volunteered to operate the subreddit.

I'm curious if there's a way to reclaim the subreddit. The community currently has no space to talk, no well-known space at least.

I do understand that I should've kicked the mod out much sooner, but like I said, it's the project's founder so I respected the individual and still do. But, at the same time I believe the community needs a place to discuss so I'd like to reclaim the sub.

I answered a post from ModCodeOfConduct looking for a mod for a community I was active in. Myself and one other person responded and we were both approved to be mods there.

The problem is that I have no interest at all in co-modding with that user, I've banned them from another subreddit of mine and I have a feeling that we will clash on moderation styles.

If I leave as a mod just after being added, will that affect my chances of getting added as a mod in other subreddits later that may be in need?

Another sub is taking my content (scrapping), day after day after day after day... He is even using my exact titles, so it is obvious what he is doing.

I have messaged him several times and offered compromises. I wouldn't care if he crossposted instead. I've offered to trade links with him... Other ideas... He has ignored all messages from me.

When I finally banned him from my sub, he then finally wrote back and said he would stop. That lasted 3 weeks, and it then started again.

I guess there is nothing I can do, right? I spent a lot of time looking for content, and this is irritating.

I know how reddit works, but when someone who has run out of stuff to post when his sub is slow, takes your stuff (and titles) on a daily basis.... It gets irritating after a while...

Hi there, Has anyone else experienced this? I there seems to be a system glitch with temporary bans.

It happened over on two large subreddits that I moderate. I first bridged it on r/Ireland last week and I initially assumed it was some weird glitch, but it has now happened again on another subreddit r/AskIreland.

In both instances, a temporary ban was issued. The Mod Log correctly shows the ban as temporary, but the user summary is showing it as a permanent ban, and the user is in fact permanently banned. The user is issued with a temporary ban notice so this is not a manual moderator mistake, it’s a system glitch.

So the Mod Log says temporary, while the actual ban appears to be permanent. Has anyone else run into this recently?

I am concerned that this will cause a major issue where we will now need to review bans going back months to manually assess if the system permanently banned them when it should’ve been temporary.

I have a problem with inactive mods who just do nothing, everyone I ask if they want to stay active they respond “yes!” They haven’t commented in the community in over a year, I mod solo, thankfully it’s not a very active sub. They do help when I ask but it’s frustrating.

I have another issue where a mod isn’t modding or responding to me or other mods but comments and participates in the sub occasionally.

I’m debating when I bring on other mods adding in a policy like thing that if they go inactive without communication for x number of weeks they will be removed as mod. But that feels to much like a “this is a job not a fun thing.”

How do people handle this? I’m top mod in all communities.

I do this thing in r/steaks where if there is a general consensus that the poster posted a good picture of their well-made steak, I manually assigned the user a flare reading "made a great steak".

Is there any way to automatically put up a pole based on post flare that will automatically assign a user flare after a day based on the pole results?

Any ideas if this is possible.

I adopted r/spacecolonization by r/redditrequest. I can see there are many old posts, but the subreddit was restricted. So how can I see who is approved user. When I look in approved users, it shows only one user but I can clearly see there has many people posted.

One of my subreddits is hosting an AMA in a few weeks. I've seen reddit ads for AMAs on other subs, but I have no idea how to set up an ad. Where do I start? Thanks.
