Information Bots, Spammers and AI Accounts - Tighter Filters

Hey everyone,

Admins suck; AI bots and spammers are inundating r/modesto, Reddit doesn’t seem to have a solution, I’m raising the filters again from moderate to maximum levels and adjusting settings to screen for this crap.

If your post gets auto-removed just hang tight, I’m gonna manually approve your post and your account. If I don’t see it because I’m busy IRL, just message the mods here and we’ll get you squared away.

It’s annoying I know. It’s annoying for me too. If this isn’t sustainable we’ll go another direction.

Thank you all for your understanding… except the AI thirst trap accounts, T-shirt selling scammers, and admins for doing nothing about this.

Promote your local business here! Updated Monthly

Hey everyone! We've recently tightened the rules a little bit about business promotion posts. We understand however that this is indeed a city subreddit and it would be mutually beneficial for local businesses and consumers to connect! Some promotions such as events are exempt from the tightened rules and may have their own thread. Please read rules 5 and 6. This is for business promotion and NOT a listing for goods for sale.

We still DO NOT allow private listings (including the sale of pets). Please keep those to places such as Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. But if you're something of a realtor, a landscaper, handyman or private music instructor for example, feel free to promote your business or services. For now this is scheduled to post monthly, however the schedule may change depending on activity.

Note to consumers! Please exercise your due diligence. Make sure you're doing business with all properly licensed individuals/businesses. Research reviews and request referrals if you must!

Are there Assyrian restaurants in the Modesto/Turlock area?

I am not Assyrian but I find the culture and food of the assyrian/chaldean people fascinating. I know there’s a big community here and I may pass by the area this fall.

Is it a thing? Does any serve chipteh? I am fine with a fusion of different middle eastern cuisines under one roof, as well.

EDIT: Did discover a place online called Patogh in Turlock, which is Assyrian-owned.

The Modesto Bee - Farewell from Kathleen Quinn, civics and democracy repoter

Oooof... It's Kathleen Quinn, civics and democracy reporter for The Modesto Bee.

This is my last day with The Bee, as my California Local Reporting Fellowship has ended. It's hard because this newsroom is filled to the brim with amazing people who care about Modesto and Stanislaus County.

I just want to deeply thank everyone who spoke with me here, on or off the record. My time here was spent highlighting communities that I believe need more attention: unincorporated areas and rural residents.

My last article was about, of all things, mosquitoes. My second-to-last was a follow-up to my previous StanRTA/Transdev story from last month.

You and readers like you helped me write about elections, public participation in government, flooding, sidewalks, third spaces, water quality issues, foxes, beavers, mountain lions and more. Truly from the depth of my heart, thanks for upvoting, commenting, and reaching out.

I hope I served Modesto and Stanislaus County well over the last two years.

Continue reaching out to my amazing colleagues. They are great reporters and even better people.

Have the Roadsters been a good replacement for the Nuts and do they still get the same crowd and vibe?

I never went to a Nuts game but I made a trip to Modesto to see the Roadsters recently. As someone who watches a lot of minor league baseball it seems like it has that similar small market community vibe. I like how they redid the stadium to give it a fresh look. I don't know if it feels similar to Nuts games except different colors or if its a completely different experience now. I hope the Roadsters do well and they seem like they're here to stay.

Information Any house music DJs?

I love house music. I’m looking to see if there are any locals DJs that have a Spotify or mixtapes on YouTube I can listen to. I’m having a bday party for my son this Saturday and would like a DJ to come play if it’s not too expensive. I’m a brokie 😭 send me those links. My personal favorite music producers are Daft Punk, Chris Lake, Benny Benassi, and LNRT. I also like music from the 80s- early 2000s. HMU!

Supporting farmers that don't support this administration

Given the meat and produce situation, can we compile a list of farmers in the area (produce, local goods, etc) that do not support this administration?

I know we live in a red-dominated area, but there has to be a few. Please feel free to link your own or a local business that you know.

What do you consider to be your hidden gem food spot in Modesto?

I feel like whenever I have people come in from out of town, I always take them to the same spots that I’ve built a liking for.
For me, I would say Rana’s Taqueria is such a hidden gem here. What would you all say?

How is Modesto so much nicer than Stockton and why can't Stockton improve to Modesto's status?

I guess any town in the Central Valley is better than Stockton but omg its like two different worlds imo. Modesto feels safe, nicer, and more up to date. I feel Modesto is everything Stockton has potential to be but isn't. Its nice to not actually be keep your head on swivel.

I'm a visitor of both towns and Modesto immediately felt like home. Stockton feels like one wrong look and you're deas and a place where dreams rot in hell. I don't know why anyone would want to live there. I'd choose Modesto in an instant.

Fresh Vegetable Farms

I go up to Hart road (Staniford —> Beckweth) once or twice a week to get raw milk. On the way I found a small farm which provided fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. But unfortunately they packed up from there and moved away last week. Is there any other farm close-by where I can find similar stuff ?

Help! Dog scared of college ave ?

Anyone else's dog become scared of crossing college Ave about a month ago??? We walk on averag3 about 2 hours a day . So I'm we have crossed multiple intersections up and down college Ave and something has her spooked if it was one area I would chalk it up to a bad experience . She used to cross it just fine , she still crosses every other road just fine. So im curious if anyone else has experienced this recently. Maybe some new noises or electrical current she can feel that I cant.
