Alpinestar tech air mx Which mode to choose?
Hello everyone I bought the Alpinestar motocross airbag, I state that I am an amateur I do not compete, next week I will start using the airbag, which mode do you recommend to use MX or MX race? I would like to use mx but I’m afraid it will open even for slight falls that maybe I would have preferred not to open, since each recharge also costs €90, so I was thinking of using it on MX race mode to preserve it only for serious falls?
Maybe you who own it and know what these two modalities are like let me know thanks

MX race! I accidentally fucking tripped in the parking lot and it went off in the regular MX mode!

Mx race. I have had it deploy twice, 1 time in mx mode in a low speed corner crash didn’t think it was necessary and another time in a high speed crash in mx race and it definitely helped.

I use mx mode and mine has deployed once.( I got my Tech Air as a Christmas gift last year and it’s the only time I’ve crashed wearing it and probably the first time I’ve crashed in several years) I cross rutted in a turn and hit the deck at relatively low speed. I was probably just inside the envelope for it to deploy and to be honest I actually hit the ground shoulder first harder than I would have expected considering the circumstances. Who knows maybe it kept me from separating a shoulder? It was pretty interesting because in my case it happened so fast I couldn’t even process I was crashing but I was aware the bag deployed. Most of the time when you are riding you can feel when you start to lose the front or the back end and sometimes you can save it sometimes you can’t but in this case I was upright and then instantly I wasn’t.
My only point in bringing all that up is how quickly it determines when it needs to deploy. It’s pretty cool technology. When you think about it -the majority of crashes thankfully are tip overs rather than full scale yard sales and it doesn’t take much force to break a collarbone . Maybe ride in MX mode initially and go from there?

I think I’ll try MX race, because I wouldn’t want the airbag to unfold if I fall from a curve at a relatively low speed in which I could manage even without it opening, since it also costs about €90 for recharge in Italy

I use MX race. The standard MX mode is too eager to deploy when cartridges cost $115. I have had 3 deployments in mine and the only one I didn't appreciate was in the standard MX setting.
