Hi, I'm a closet muslim. I've always been drawn to Islam, but I always felt conflicted due to having very bigoted extremist family members.
I always thought as a woman a big part of Islam is the hijab, due to the toxicity of my family who I'm currently financially dependent on I always held off on officially converting. I've decided I'm completely over it. I've been getting into daily Quran reading, reading books on Islam from other devout Muslims and doing my daily prayers. Due to my financial dependence on my family, I'm not in a place where I can veil or be openly Muslim. I won't be veiling until I can move out and be on my own.
I'm very blessed to have always lived amongst a large Muslim population, so I have access to halal restaurants, butchers etc...
Please give me any advice that you would give a new Muslim.

I’ve learned so much about myself over the years, and I may have so much struggles, but if there’s one thing I’m forever grateful for is to be Muslim. I could cry bc of how much it has saved me and what it’s done for me to accept Islam.
I have a lot of mental struggles, I struggle with bpd even tho I know many ppl don’t believe in this stuff. It makes feelings like love so terrifying and consuming, so for example, even if allowed, sometimes I think marriage doesn’t seem like an option for me due to this issue, but I’m not mad at it if it’s something I have to give up to not hurt someone else.
Because Islam has protected me from so much, with this disorder, majority of ppl have addictions towards drugs, alcohol, self-harm, sexual relations, serious dangerous impulsive behaviors, activities, abuse etc. I have stayed away from each thing only due to being Muslim which has made things a lot more easy for me alhamdulillah. Each thing I’ve desired, especially dangerous behaviors not caring for my life, but have restrained from it.
While I do struggle with severe internal mood swings, depression, anxiety, paranoia, and such I value that we should not be angry, or have others feel the wrath of our pain which has truly helped be regulate my actions immensely, not emotions, as that’s not as easily controlled, but atleast actions. Being Muslim most of all protected me from ending my life.
So I’m just thankful and I wish Muslim people were more kind and gentle with eachother even when one may do wrong, the kindness goes further than u may think. I hope Allah blesses me and us all with more Muslim friends in our lives. We need eachother more than we think.

It's been 8 months. I continue to have these random flashbacks and intense waves of grief in the middle of my day, during my work. It's always running subconsciously at the back of my mind.
Sometimes it gets worse due to which I can't sleep at night.
I don't feel like a human anymore, but rather as a robot who is being forced to live.
I don't have peace.
I feel like this life isn't worth living anymore. Why am I here?
I have so much grief that has nowhere to go.

I remember crying myself to sleep one afternoon because I was in the worst place of my life. But I slept and I dreamt of what looked an angel?? (It looked like a tiny beautiful fairy) telling me to istighfar. And then I just started repeating istighfar. And WALAHI when I tell you I’m not lying when I was repeating it, I literally felt a beautiful rush of icy air in my lungs, sadly I don’t feel it anymore but i know Allah did that so I can be encouraged, it was literally the best feeling I’ve ever felt, it was like my lungs and heart were being cleared out, or you know when you eat minty fresh gum, that’s exactly what it felt like but better, like a calming gush of sparkly cold air filling my heart and lungs, I miss the feeling so much. I literally couldn’t stop smiling and I laughed a little because whattt
It happened last year but I thought I might share so all you guys can witness the miracles of istighfar. That was just one tiny miracle. Allah will answer all your duas, just be focused and be consistent :) and look up inspiring videos about it on YouTube.

Going through a really hard time in my life and I am almost at the verge of losing hope. I'll really appreciate some tawakul stories for some motivation

I genuinely want to get married, but sometimes I wonder if I’m enough. I genuinely want the whole thing, a husband, best friend, someone to annoy and be annoyed by, random conversations at 2am, going out for food, building a cozy little home together, and just having my person. 🥹
I crave affection, attention, love, all of it. And yes, I have my flaws and I’m definitely not perfect, but I still find myself wondering… will someone actually look at me and think, “yep, I want her”? 😂
Maybe I’m being a little delulu, but I really want to experience that kind of love.

How did you transform yourself from a boy into the man you wanted to be? I mean how did you acquire the qualities which are the definition of a man, like masculine features, intelligence, knowing how the world works, being a qawwam , a choice maker for your family, leading them with confidence, being courageous etc.
How did you become the father you wished you had?

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, fellow Muslims.
I have a question and would genuinely appreciate your perspectives.
If someone you care about, who is an atheist, told you:
“I think people who believe in God are naive.”
How would you respond to that?
Would you consider the statement rude, careless, or dismissive of your faith? Or would you see it simply as them expressing their personal worldview?
I’m particularly interested in how you would handle this if the person is someone close to you whom you care about.
JazakAllahu khairan. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

I don’t even know where to start, so I’ll just start because I genuinely can't take the constant pain and stress anymore.
I’m 19 years old. I’m Egyptian, currently living in Qatar, but I’ll be returning to Egypt soon for my final year of college. And I’m terrified.
I’ve been carrying trauma for as long as I can remember. My father was physically and emotionally abusive throughout my childhood. He called me insane, made me feel like a failure, and encouraged behaviors that fed into my struggles. He’s still in my life, and he still makes me feel small. He controls everything: money, decisions, even access to basic things, and I’m forced to depend on him while I finish my degree, he made me feel guilty over almost everything bought
My aunt and grandmother in Egypt were just as bad. They shamed me for my medical conditions, tracked my showering habits like I was a prisoner, threw my belongings out illegally, and blamed me when I reacted to their abuse. When I tried to explain my mental health, I was called a baby, told I was crazy like my father, and completely dismissed. My grandmother sided with my aunt, and my father’s sister is no better, she’s a snake who has caused endless pain in our family.
I’m diagnosed with severe mixed depression and hypersexuality. I’ve been on multiple medications for years. Some turned me into a zombie; others barely kept me afloat. I’m currently on a new combination, and it’s helping a little, but I still feel broken most days. I struggle to pray. I struggle to focus. I struggle to feel anything but exhaustion, anger, and grief.
I’m also dealing with intense sexual desires that I have no halal outlet for. I try to manage it, but I relapse sometimes to masturbation, sometimes to porn as relief especially in the past and it leaves me feeling empty and ashamed and months ago I’ve realized I’m deeply attracted to Black women, specifically a Sudanese girl I’ve had good interactions with, and another girl named Sakina who I’ve been following online. I don’t even know if they notice me. I don’t know if I even have a chance.
I’m about to go back to Egypt for 8–9 months, and I’m terrified of being trapped there again and cut off from the internet as it's limited and expensive in Egypt, from the outside world, from the few things that keep me sane. I’m scared I’ll lose myself completely.
I have a plan to move to Qatar permanently after I graduate and cut off my toxic family for good. But even with all of that, I feel empty. I feel like I’m fighting alone. I don’t have friends who truly see me. I don’t have a partner. I don’t have a safe home.
I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this because I need someone, anyone to know that I exist. That I’m not just a diagnosis, a trauma case, or a failure. That I’m a person who is trying so hard to survive, but I’m running out of reasons to keep going.
If you’ve read this far thank you so much. I don’t know what I’m looking for tbh. Advice? Validation? A sign that I’m not alone? Maybe just to be heard I really am not sure
I know my life DOES have good things in it, and I am extremely thankful for God for everything he's given me but I still wish I wasn't born as I'm very afraid of death anyway and been quite far from my religion (Islam) and that hurts too.
If you’ve been through something similar, or if you have any words of wisdom, I’d really appreciate it.

Please make dua for me I’m really scared about my future
I’m writing this because I honestly don’t know what else to do except ask for your duas.
For context, I’m a student in Belgium, and we have a system called “finançabilité”. Basically, there are rules about how many years you can remain eligible for public funding. In my situation, if I don’t manage to complete all my first-year Bachelor courses within the allowed time, I can be declared “non-finançable”, which would mean that I could no longer enroll in higher education for 5 years. It’s honestly terrifying to even think about.
This year is basically my last chance.
I’ve spent the past four years trying to find the right path for me. I changed direction several times because I really wanted to find something I could see myself doing in the future. After all this time, I finally found my way into pharmacy, and I genuinely want to pursue it. But now I’m terrified that everything could stop here because of this situation.
What scares me the most is having to tell my parents if I’m declared non-finançable. They have invested so much in me, supported me through all these years, and believed in me despite all the changes and difficulties. I’m terrified of disappointing them after everything they’ve done for me.
I just finished my August exam session, and honestly, I feel like it went badly. I was extremely stressed. I was staying up all night trying to study, but I had so much material that I couldn’t manage to get through everything. I know I also made mistakes in the way I organized my studying, and I deeply regret not having managed things better.
There were so many nights where I would just cry because I was terrified of becoming non-finançable. The pressure became overwhelming, and sometimes I felt like I couldn't breathe when thinking about what would happen if I failed.
Right now, I’m just waiting for my results, and the uncertainty is really difficult.
So please, if you see this, make dua for me that I pass my exam session, remain financially eligible, and am able to move on to the next year of my pharmacy degree.
Please make dua that Allah makes my results better than I expect, allows me to continue my studies, and opens a way for me when I feel like there is none.
I’m trying to remind myself that Allah is capable of changing any situation in an instant, and I’m holding onto that hope.
JazakAllahu khayran to anyone who takes a moment to make dua for me. May Allah accept your duas, make things easy for you, and reward you immensely. 🤍

I don’t know how much longer I can take this test
Unmarried 26 years old woman. Sorry for the language in advance.
Ik some might don’t get it but I’m a person who craves connection very much. I yearn for a loving husband who is kind and gentle and soft hearted and soft spoken. I also DEEPLY and almost desperately crave the intimacy that could come with it. And I think it’s one of the few tests of allah which are tearing me apart. The first one is my education which I desperately ask you for dua.
The problem is, I have a high libido. I really want to have my first time, even my love language is physical touch. I brush the hair of my friends, I hold their hands, I love hugs from my family, I give them massages. And I see the people talking about having intimacy, I see and hear them talk about their experiences and stuff and I get the biggest fomo ever. It’s not even that I could avoid it easily, it’s everywhere. And if I can avoid it, the focus shifts to marriage. And I mean marriage is there to ease this craving for the people but unfortunately some don’t get to marry at all. I did not commit Zina alhamdulillah. But sometimes I wonder why the people who do commit this sin have a husband, and kids, are married the halal way, while I am struggling in my prime to even find a potential spouse. Sometimes I think I’m missing out on experience and the feeling of being wanted and craved. And that thought is becoming so strong as time passes and everybody in my life gets married but me. I also can’t stand the thought of being in my late 30s or 40s when marrying for the first time. And honestly I don’t want to wait that long.
I know it’s controversial but I told myself that if I don’t get married at 30 I will definitely want to at least experience having sex. Because atp the possibility of not marrying in this lifetime is getting bigger and bigger. I pray and fast and other than this craving I have, I would say I’m doing okay in my religion. I don’t crave drugs or immodest clothing at all and I am trying to improve my character daily. But dear god I don’t know if I could stay single or let alone a virgin until death. Even though I know that I would have huge problems with my family if they ever find out. But honestly? I catch myself caring lesser and lesser with each passing year. I know it’s wrong and haram and I don’t deny it that I would commit one big sin, which is even punished in the grave. I am trying so so hard but it gets to a point.
Please don’t judge me and please don’t say unkind words. I’m a fellow sister and a human with needs and wants in a challenging dunya.

I've recently come across these terms and I feel confused.
What even are they. Apparently, Salafis are saying that Asharis and Maturidis are bad and evil, while otherd say that the three are valid. What even is happening? I am maliki.
Do I need to follow one or what?

So I've heard that a husband would be sinned as well if his spouse doesn't wear a hijab, saw a hadith as well, alright, makes sense but I have been seeing a lot of rather harsher takes on this, saw some people say that this is cuckoldry/dayooth and the husband would be bound for hell, so a major sin I'm guessing, however, the ones which prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was referring to were actual cucks, those who derived pleasure in seeing their wives actually be with someone else physically and some even making money out of it which I'm guessing was prevalent back then in some places and that I'm sure is a big major sin no doubt.
However, I was wondering more about the opposite end of this very broad term, like those husbands who don't tell their wives to wear a hijab BUT at the same time they do not encourage them to take it off, or encourage them to dress immodestly or anything like that, if anything they believe that it is indeed sinful and hope for forgiveness, they just don't actively tell them to wear it and leave it on their partner but do encourage modesty otherwise.
Would they also be committing a major sin? and "major sin" is a big word here, so I'm wondering, if this is something that can be washed away by good deeds as well or that's one of those major ones that can't be.

Assalamu Alaykum,
I was born Muslim, I am 21 years old. I went through struggles in believing in Islam my entire childhood and teenage years, i ended up marrying a narcissistic abusive man at 18 years old. He acted religious but was not. After that, my iman was extremely low, and I went down a bad path, the shaytan did take me. I can see that clearly now, but at the time I didn’t realise how far I had gone. I believed in superstitions, I was obsessed with astrology, new age spirituality, and I believed in magic. I realise now, that I left the fold of Islam and totally forgot about Allah. I was following harmful people online, who were practicing magic, and at the time I did not see the harm in it. I did practise magic for a while. I did not do any magic with the intent of harm. I would do ‘protection’ magic. My family was no good influence on me either, as my mum is a revert and I would say has also left the fold of Islam, with the things she believes in. One day, somebody wronged me and hurt me really badly, and I was the angriest I have ever felt in my life, I did magic on this person intending harm. I did not think of it as bad until recently, I recently felt my heart open by the will of Allah, and I have felt his mercy suphanallah, alhumdullilah. My eyes have opened to the truth, and my faith feels so strong. But now, I am realising my actions, and I am actually horrified at myself, I just pray to Allah to take away any harm I have caused to myself and others. I try to reassure myself, that Allah has the greatest power over my intentions of harming that person. But I really don’t know how I could be forgiven. And I know that shirk is also a major sin which cannot be forgiven. I am doing my best now as a Muslim in my actions and intentions, and I am so so grateful to have been guided to the truth and I feel Allah has saved me from continuing down that path. But I am so so so SO scared, that Allah will not/has not forgiven me. I feel my sins are so great, compared to people around me. I often feel suicidal. I feel I am scared I will ever be swayed again, although I feel very stable and solid in my faith and path alhumdullilah, I have someone who plans on marrying me inshallah, and he is strong in his deen and character thanks to Allah. I feel I don’t deserve to marry a person like this. My sins are weighing on me heavy. And I have tiny hope that Allah can forgive me, but I also feel silly thinking that Allah could forgive such things as I know how bad they are. I truly feel my sins are the greatest on earth.

I believe we all see a pattern on how Muslims are portrayed in the media: lots of stereotypes. all very predictable to us.
The new pattern is; now Muslims are being shown as protagonists. The catch is, they live non practicing very un-Islamic lives. Case in point, as an example. a show called an undeclared war.
it's all about intelligence agencies in the UK. One of the main protagonists, is a Muslim girl with a live in non-Muslim bf.
She says, that she cannot eat anything at the cafeteria because they don't have anything halal, but then continues to drink aftewards and has a lesbian relationship with a co-worker. The live in BF is more moral than her.. but this is all in the name of working at a cutting-edge gig at the intelligence agency.
Couldn't stop laughing. but then again, its normalizing all this behavior for Muslim youth.
very disappointing to see it but ..onwards.

Assalamu alaikum. I’m looking for honest advice from practicing Sunni Muslims, especially brothers who can give a perspective from the man’s side.
I’m in a serious relationship with a woman, and both of our families know about us and know we intend to get married. We’re waiting on some things before the nikāḥ, including her residency situation.
She would prefer to delay the nikāḥ, while I personally would rather get married sooner. Because of her immigration situation, we’re considering doing the civil/legal marriage first, then having the nikāḥ and wedding about 9–10 months later.
Our parents don’t know that we’re considering the civil marriage/green-card route. They know about our relationship and that we’re planning to get married, but not this specific plan.
From an Islamic and practical perspective, is this actually a good idea? Would you, as a Muslim man, be comfortable legally marrying a woman and then waiting almost a year for the nikāḥ? Are there any Islamic concerns or risks I should seriously think about before doing this?
I’m not really asking about USCIS. I want to know what practicing Muslims would personally think about this situation and whether you would advise doing it or waiting.

A few months ago I started talking to a guy online,I knew it was wrong but our conversations were innocent(haram nonetheless I know),we talked about books politics, movies. We started to confide in eachother, the more we started talking we both fell in love, calling everyday texting everyday. But then he confessed to me that he is bipolar with paraphrenia,he would have episodes while we are on call sometimes and they used to be very violent,he would punch himself and then wake up scared asking me why he is bleeding,he had two personalities that were “devils”.His ancestors come from a history of being witches, which ofcourse he does not support. His grandma did some sort of ritual on him and locked him in a dark room for a month, when he came out he was almost blinded in one eye and he had these two devil personalities.I have been making dua every single day,he ended things when he got worse and i cry everyday because of it.I know it’s wrong but believe me we really wanted to get married, his father knew of me and I wanted to tell my father about it aswell.Durint one of his episodes I figured out he had a personality disorder which he kept secret from me(DID).His father and cousin put ideas in his head that he is not suitable for marriage, yet he’s perfectly capable of having a job, doing multiple internships, going to uni, having friendships, driving.I was talking to his cousin one night about the grandma, and 10 minutes later she died at 108,this was last month when the earthquake in Egypt happend. After that I called him even tho we were over to see if he was okay,he was throwing up blood but the devil was gone, but the second guy was still there, after praying and praying the other “devil” left aswell. He seems to be doing better now I can see he’s working from his linkedn page but his dad has his mobile device and it’s hard for me to talk to him.I know all of this is wrong, yet I love him intensely, and I know he loves me too because even during these episodes when he is barely conscious he cries mumbling “I wish we could be married.i love you”Im sorry for ranting, before you judge me.please know I already am so ashamed. Please make dua for me and him,for both of our health,I cannot sleep at night from how fast my heart beats. Please pray his heart softens for me because even if he gets better my fear is he will be consumed by guilt and he won’t try to make things right either way,Please make dua that his dads heart softens for me aswell

I’ve heard at the airport they detain you and take your phone off you and search all your stuff. Is this true? It kind of puts me off going if that’s the case, while I have nothing to hide I just find uncomfortable how they can just search your whole phone.

I see otherwise very religious people taking out mortgages with banks.
Most acknowledge it’s haraam but still do it.
But Riba is one of the worst sins - worse than drinking etc.
Why are we ok with people who take out mortgages?, when you have alternatives like renting.
Sometimes you can buy a rural property for the same price as a mortgage down payment.
If a Muslim has tattoos society treats him like a devil, yet when he engages in the worst sin it’s brush under the table?

Salam.i recently had an illuminating conversation with someone who had many original thoughts regarding the quran.this brother was saying how much wondrous the quran is.he also pointed out that majority of muslims study quran and respects it(as it should be) because they were taught to do so.while in reality, they are not amazed by it,they are simply believing because they know they should.but quran tells us to think.so rather than following traditional tafseers and shallow meanings we shall find out for ourselves the wonders of quran.
The aim of this post is to hear original thoughts regarding quran.so if theres anyone here who has any interesting out of the box thoughts or inspirations from quran please so share...
