MEETUPS & CHECK INS – Week of August 31, 2026

Happy Monday, tasteful bitches of New York. As a means to mitigate off topic posts, we are testing a weekly auto mod posts for discussions about the emotional journey of being a New Yorker. New York is a lonely city sometimes and living in our shoebox palaces can be isolating.

Talk about it here, schedule your next NYCBWT drink meetup or Sunday run club, or just vent and talk to fellow NYers.

There is one hard and fast rule designed for your safety: Meet ups MUST BE IN A PUBLIC LOCATION. If you are planning an event in the future, please message mods before posting.

Thanks everyone for keeping this subreddit a safe place and for adhering to the post rules. Please message the mods or comment on this post if you have other weekly thread suggestions.

šŸ’†ā€ā™€ļø Wellness & Self Care Bathless Bitches, what do we do?

self proclaimed Duchess of baths has found herself living without one after vowing 10 years ago to never do it again.

Am officially one month into new place (love it, soho), was staying pretty positive in my shower (its been summer) but this morning I started my period and all I wanted was a delirious 4am crampy hot Epsom salted bath D:

In this sub alone, so many horror stories of bathhouses and saunas. I am nearby that bath club Lore which I thought was actual bathing and warm pools but it’s more cold plunge & sauna (unless..?)

Is there a Bath&B? I may start planning Hudson valley etc. escapades around my cycle to bathe accordingly… is there an app for that? lol

EDIT: while I may justify paying for a room outside of the city, I pay too much rent to justify doing it in the same city!

šŸŽØ Arts & Culture Harry Styles - Saturday 9/5

Hi all! I have an extra ticket to Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden this Saturday, 9/5.

Ticketmaster isn't allowing me to sell the ticket on their site, so I thought I would ask here if anyone is interested. I had initially bought this for myself but ended up getting a better seat. Just hoping to get what I paid for the ticket, which is $190. Section 210.

Please remove if not allowed but I really want this ticket to go to a good home! 🫶

šŸ’„ Beauty Hair Growth Serum Trial

Hello, my NYCBWT!

About two years ago, I posted about a clinical trial at my job, which helped me meet many of you, and it was a great success in getting so many started on their hair journey. I want to share that we will be launching a new product this month and will be conducting another clinical trial for both a hair growth serum and an eyebrow serum starting in October. This trial will last approximately four to six months, and we are looking for around 100 participants.

For some context, we are a high-end Danish hair care company that focuses on female hair thinning, hair loss, and overall improvements in scalp and hair health. This subreddit has provided me with fantastic beauty recommendations, so I thought it would be a perfect place to share this opportunity. Participants will receive four to six months of complimentary hair care and treatment. Our location is in the Flatiron District on 5th Avenue, between 20th and 21st Street.

You are welcome to join the waitlist here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfOKQW4ADpSlhQUA8ihbbielkPDHojXhKp0qcwTUpwySEeEyQ/viewform

If you have any questions, please email [info@harklinikken.com](mailto:info@harklinikken.com).

šŸ’¬ General Things that the ā€œeliteā€ in NYC do, but you can do it too without paying a fortune. US Open inspired thread šŸ˜‚

Sooooo… is it me or is the US Open a lot more popular this year? We went to Fan Week for the first time ever despite living in NYC for over a decade now.

We got super lucky and a rep came and gave us free tickets to Arthur Ashe stadium so we sat in section 100s and enjoyed the soft seats which were ridiculously more comfortable than the hard seats we had in 300s. Also, soooo many empty seats all around us. I heard StubHub was flooded with tickets unsold because of how outrageous resale price had become.

What are other events or experiences the very wealthy/rich of NYC enjoy annually outside of the US Open and Hamptons.

I would love to experience a slice of the life but figure out frugal smart ways to do so. For example I may take the Hampton Jitney for a day trip just to see what it’s like to walk around and explore.

What are their fall and winter go-to activities and experiences?

šŸ’¬ General express tailors

Hi bwt! Any recommendations for quick turnaround tailors in midtown/ midtown east? I saw a lot of people recommending Orchard Express on the LES but they seem to have terrible reviews for simple hemming etc. I’d just like to get a few pants hemmed and waist taken in a little before a trip I have planned, nothing crazy.

šŸ’¬ General BWT, open their homes to a sweet rescue cat šŸ’”

Post image
250 Upvotes

Blondie has been waiting over 180 days for a home šŸ’”

Blondie is a reserved 8 year old lady looking for a home. Blondie was brought in to Animal Haven with 2 feline companions when their owner unfortunately passed away and the family couldn’t/wouldn’t take them in. Both of Blondie’s friends have since been adopted and just Blondie is waiting for her forever home šŸ’”

Blondie was terrified in the shelter but she’s doing well in a foster home. She gets along well with other cats. She is missing one of her front legs but gets around just fine, walking, scratching (a scratching post) and leaping onto my bed. She will need an adopter who is patient and willing to give her the space to come out of her shell after everything she has been through. If you are interested in giving this sweet lady a second chance please reach out to Animal Haven at the link below.

šŸ’¬ General Non-Compete Advice

Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice. I've been at my current job 4.5 years and am desperate for a new job. I have been interviewing with a direct competitor and ita going super well but when they asked if I had signed a non-compete, I panicked and said "No" when I had 😭

I know that was incredibly stupid but I was so scared they end the convo there. I'm currently scheduled for round 4/5 interviews so nothing on the table yet but wondering where do I go from here?

Should I beg my employer to waive the non-compete or come cleanish to HR and say I revisited my paperwork and found a clause that might be an issue?

Any advice would be so appreciated!

šŸ’†ā€ā™€ļø Wellness & Self Care Dermatologist recs for skin issue and hair thinning/density loss

Hello I need good dermtologist recs, I currently have widespread ringworm that I was diagnosed at urgent care. I believe I picked it up at equinox. I’ve been dealing with it for a month now with treatments prescribed from urgent care but need to finally get a dermatologist to get eyes on it to make sure it’s being treated properly and going away.

On that note I also have been meaning to go to a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss. I have always had thick long hair and this past year I’ve had thinning at the temples and scalp, almost like I’ve lost the density and thickness of my hair at the top of my head. So I’d love those derm recs too. Ideal if I could get it all done at the same office or same derm!! All recs and locations welcome!! I’m located in flatiron/gramercy but willing to travel anywhere in Manhattan.

šŸ—“ļø Events & Happenings Trivia recommendations between UES and Flatbush?

Anyone have personal experience with trivia events in the city? My friend and I are both on the Q line and are looking to start going to after-work trivia somewhere midway-ish between our respective apartments on the UES and in Flatbush. I know there are tons of events through the NYC Trivia League but was hoping someone might already attend one they love and recommend!

We're looking for fun vibes and nothing too intense — a lot of the threads I've already read are from former Jeopardy contestants looking for super challenging trivia but this is kind of the opposite of what I was picturing lol. Bonus points if you attend a trivia night with good gender diversity because I don't really like being in totally male dominated spaces anymore.

I want to get a contemporary locket engraved with an elaborate Victorian-style monogram along the lines of the above. Is there anywhere in New York City that does this kind of engraving? I’m also open to a class where I could learn to do it. Thanks in advance!

šŸ—“ļø Events & Happenings Fall hobby guide ready (+ some of the courses launching in next couple days!)

A few of you asked me to report back here when the next season's hobby guide (a comprehensive listing of courses covering everything from jewelry making to reiki to sewing) is ready, so here it is!

I'm still updating it to cover more than just Brooklyn (aiming to have Manhattan orgs included by Labor Day!), but wanted to put it out there now since many courses are kicking off in the next couple days and I don't want folks to miss out!

Just FYI, a few of the courses launching ASAP that still have spots available:

šŸ’†ā€ā™€ļø Wellness & Self Care Therapist or support group for cancer patients

I have cancer. I’m handling the physical aspects well for now, but the mental ones are a bit more challenging!

I’ve been seeing my current therapist for a few years, but she has not been that helpful to me in dealing with my many new complex feelings.

Any recs for someone who specializes or has expertise in dealing with this? Prefer in-person in Manhattan, but open to online, one-on-one or support group sessions. Thanks!

šŸ’„ Beauty Sharing bad hair salon experience + desperate for Asian hair colorists

TLDR; I hate my hair color, please share trusted recs to fix a girl's hairšŸ™

I followed a few suggestions here for Rename Hair Salon. I have fine Asian hair that had faded to a brassy brown, and I was looking redye it to an ashy brown tone (olive greige brown that's trending on Xiaohongshu).

Upon arriving on time to my appointment, I waited almost half an hour for the stylist to wrap up his prior client. It was not to finish cutting the hair, but because he was busy taking pictures of the finished result for his social media and getting the right anglesšŸ™ƒ

Anyway, I thought it will be worth the wait - we consulted on the color style, and got started on the coloring. Once it was finished, my new hair color was revealed to me, and it turned out to be much darker than I had hoped. It was not the greige brown tone I was looking for, but rather dark to almost black, which is... the color of my natural hair.

Basically, I paid ~$200 to revert back to my natural hair color, which I could've just box dyed at home if I wanted to.

During the session, the stylist kept saying that I suited a natural color more and that an ashy brown would wash out my skin tone. I trusted him and let him do his thing, but this is just a totally different result from what I was looking for (and not just adjusting for my skin tone and all that). My natural hair color makes me look a bit plain, and I've always dyed it brown. So I really hate how I look right now.

I still haven't found a good hair colorist in the city, especially one that can really understand the nuance of getting the right tone. Many tend to mess up dying brown hair that's too warm, too dark, etc. So any recommendations / personally positive experiences would be much appreciated!!!

šŸŽØ Arts & Culture PSA: The Met’s Summer HD Festival starts Wednesday

Free opera screenings outside at Lincoln Center. It’s very magical! It runs Wednesday-Monday this year, so it’s a short window to check out some opera.

I most highly recommend Eugene Onegin on Saturday and Boheme on Monday. If you want more info, check out here. Grab a sandwich at Rosetta Bakery, bring a drink of your choice in a thermos, sit down, and enjoy. Most shows start at 8pm.

šŸ’„ Beauty ISO make-up artist to give me an in person lesson

I need to improve my make-up skills, help finding the right shades, etc. I’m 37 FT content creator, and I need to learn ā€œglamā€ as the kids say. Right now I’m just doing a cat-eye, mascara and brows. I prefer clean skin care brands (very sensitive skin), so I’m searching for someone who is familiar with different clean brands and knows the good ones. Willing to host in my apt in Brooklyn, or meet somewhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Obviously willing to pay $$$ and would prefer to FT in advance to make sure it’s a good fit.

šŸ“ Restauraunts & Bars Fun club by LES for 30+?

A girlfriend and I want to go out and dance. We’d prefer a slightly older crowd (read: not recent grads) but aren’t super pretentious beyond that. We just want to dance baby! Bonus points if the music is les house and more 70s but truly are not picky if the vibes are there. And would go on the earlier side at 10pm. Any recs?

I’ve been recommended: Virgo, the flower shop (but does it have dancing?), SoHo grand…
