We're having a daughter, and a name I really like is Nancy. My partner also likes it.

But I know it's also old fashioned, and not very popular for babies right now. I had also mentioned it to my parents and my mother had said it’s very American, which neither of us are.

I like it and think it's cute but I don't want other people or her to find her name weird or too old, just because I think it's nice.

As they are expecting a baby girl before the end of the year, which baby name would you suggest to the Lautner family?

I need a fresh perspective. After going through hundreds of names, I'm fatigued from the pressure to decide, and they all look the same now.

We currently live in Germany, but both of us are expats and we aren't sure if our child will grow up here, so please don't emphasize the German context too much.

To summarize our criteria:

- should more or less work in both Europe and the US

- must have an intuitive pronunciation

- ideally, it should have only one or two alternative spellings. We want to avoid him having to constantly clarify which Phillip, Philipp, Filip, Philippe, Felipe, or Filippo he is

- it shouldn't be too long, edgy, or pretentious. Archibald, Bartholomew, are are too much

- popularity is not a dealbreaker. My partner doesn't mind a top-5 name, but I would personally prefer him not to be the third Noah in his class.

She is stuck with Theo. My silly objection is that it's too Biblical. Literally God is in the name and none of us is religious. Plus, it's extremely popular in Germany to the point of being boring.

Ok, I have an awesome last name. Very cool and flows AMAZINGLY with my first name.

UNFORTUNATELY it’s my ex-partner’s last name. About a week and a half ago, after 6 years, he moved out with one bag of his stuff and ghosted me. Found out he had put in notice at his job, lied to me about it, proceeded to buy a brand new car with me right after, and then after he left I found a reddit post from about a year ago referencing him having multiple sexual partners.

For uh, obvious reasons, I do not want to keep his last name. I also don’t want to go with my maiden name.

have had this name since birth. my father is a no-sabo kid and thought “it’s a bad ass name”. i have since took the initiative to learn my family’s language, and even before i did i was always ridiculed for my name. have had many peers, teachers, friends, family of friends, co workers ask “what’s your real name” almost everyone mexican has given me a stank look at first. my resume always gets declined because it seems like spam. my boyfriends family calls me Antioco because they think Sancho is somewhat disrespectful of a name. i don’t think my parents were cautious with the idea that i would surround my self with mexicans. it’s come to the point to where i have my ID ready to show that Sancho is my birth name whenever i meet someone new. don’t get my wrong i love my name. i think the same as my dad that it’s a cool name, it’s unique and memorable, just not practical. but i’ve never met anyone else who deals with this much bs when simply introducing themself. i have learned to laugh with people instead of getting butt hurt, but sometimes it’s just so tiring to explain why my parents named me Sancho. just wanted to get an opinion on a broader perspective of the idea of my name. thanks in advance.

context; Sancho: is a spanish slang word for ‘other man’. the man who goes to see your wife while you’re at work.
there is some historical/literary significance with Sancho Panza from Don Quixote but that is not the reason why my father chose my name.

Besides Mary emily was the first what I would class true classic in terms of heavy usage in Victorian times to become THE name not just popular is was 1. I wouldn’t even say Mary counts as classic as it is because Mary was just like chosen coz it was the default like most people were being named after mothers grandmothers and for biblical reasons etc Emily wasn’t like that it doesn’t have any meaning behind it for why people picked it they just must of liked it.

It seemed like Emily was the start of an established old anme being able to make such a turnaround it opened the door for Olivia, Emma, Sophia, Isabella etc when you look at it. All the names before Emily felt modern during their rise like brand new type names all the way from when Linda, lisa, Jennifer, Jessica, Ashley etc and then Emily seems like a complete shift.

Love short, sweet, nature-y, more nickname leaning girl names. Olive fits the bill perfectly but traditional names make it sound very formal and old fashioned (Olive Margot?) when I want the name overall to feel a little bit more fun/whimsical/dreamy.

With my grandpa recently passed I wanted something to tie into my son name thats expected to be born in a couple months, my gf wanted the middle name named after her brother which is fine I want her to pick that if I get the last. What comes to mind when you hear Wesley? It sounds kinda old to me and I don’t want him to get made fun of over a name, it’s my grandpa and my middle name it has much more of a meaning to me than my last name and I don’t think I’d want him to have 4 names either.

Just recently met a baby (born July 2026) named Kevin. I was immediately taken aback as it is seen as an odd name for a baby, or anyone below the age of 30.

But I thought about it, and I thought it was weird that names like Evan and Devon are pretty timeless and I wouldn’t think twice about meeting an old man or a baby with that name, but Kevin has that connotation of being outdated.

I would appreciate any help in coming up with some suggestions for a name for our 3rd child! Our first son is named Charles (Charlie) and our second son that was stillborn at 35 weeks is named Carter. Our third baby is another boy and I am struggling with a meaningful name that also goes with our other two boys! I am most drawn to names starting with A or C but could be talked into other names if they “fit” with both our boys’ names. My husband likes Colton but I am not sure about it. I like names that are relatively common in the US but not necessarily top 10 names. Some of the names I have considered are Avery, Andrew/Anderson, Alexander, Clayton, Caden, and Franklin.
