Hey folks! I am a NB person who has been going by the name Are for a while now and I'd like to make it my official name. However, since "Are" is short and also happens to be a very common word, I would like to make my official name a little longer, but with the possibility of Are as a nickname. I am thus looking for suggestions!

The issue: My country has stupid name rules and as a person with F in their personal ID, I can't choose a name that is only recognized as a male name. The name thus has to be female/unisex, but I would strongly prefer if it wasn't overly feminine.

Names I love but can't use:

Aren (only recognized as a male name)

Artemis (beautiful, but very fem-coded)

Edit: The german Wikipedia and a baby name page („babyvornamen“) both stated that „Elouise“ was the English version of the name Eloise (which ist more common in my country, but both names are rare). So I was confused. You guys confirmed me with Eloise, so thank you a lot.

My baby girl was born this past Saturday and the entire pregnancy I was picturing a blonde, blue eyed girl, and the name I have been stuck on as a result was Honey Bea However, she came out with dark thick brown hair and I just don’t feel like the name fits anymore, so I’m back to the drawing board and have to have my birth certificate for her filled out by the end of the day today.

Hi everyone!

Due in April and looking for baby name ideas for both girls and boys (but I'm especially struggling with boys). My husband and I both have extremely common (and even trendy) '90s names so want to name our baby something very unique - but easily spell-able. Very open to noun names or names you heard but were too out-there for your family. Short and bold names seem to flow better with our last name.

Some ideas that we like but aren't sold on - Velvet, Siren, Saskia, Vesper, Lux for girls. Zephyr, Golden, Bane for boys.

Please suggest feminine names where the last two letters are consonants but do not have repeating letters like ‘Ann’ nor have similar sounds like ‘Beck’ or end in digraphs like ‘Faith’. No ‘y’ as well.

We hope it’s not unconventionally spelled to suit those terms. Not too “out there” and preferably no adjectives.

We would’ve named her ‘August’ if she wasn’t born today 😭 but that’s also not quite a feminine name to be fair. We’re on the fence on Rosalind and Dawn.

I always see memes on these names. I asked some friends about it and they never like these names either.

I know names like Brittany and Jennifer are too dated to really be used now...but what about Danielle, Sydney, Megan, Ashley, Kayla, Jordan? Do you know of any that won't raise eyebrows. I love millennial names.

Besides Mary emily was the first what I would class true classic in terms of heavy usage in Victorian times to become THE name not just popular is was 1. I wouldn’t even say Mary counts as classic as it is because Mary was just like chosen coz it was the default like most people were being named after mothers grandmothers and for biblical reasons etc Emily wasn’t like that it doesn’t have any meaning behind it for why people picked it they just must of liked it.

It seemed like Emily was the start of an established old anme being able to make such a turnaround it opened the door for Olivia, Emma, Sophia, Isabella etc when you look at it. All the names before Emily felt modern during their rise like brand new type names all the way from when Linda, lisa, Jennifer, Jessica, Ashley etc and then Emily seems like a complete shift.

I’d love an answer to this is there is one!?

If I have a girl in the future, I’d love to name her Kitty. I know it’s an older nickname for Catherine, but I like just Kitty. She could go by Kit or Kat if she wanted. Other names I like are Loretta and Mavis.

My partner thinks Kitty is too out there, but it’s my favorite. I feel like it connects us both because we were both crazy about cats growing up and still are. We have 4 and have fostered over 50 this summer. Our love for cats is a big part of us both.

I know it’s out there.. but I have a brother with a 1 in a billion name, he is named after an element but for privacy I don’t want to specify which. I hated it at first, but now it fits him so well and I can’t imagine him any other way.

Or do you think Ari, Ella, Ariel or Arielle is better?

Baby #3 is due in April and we already have 2 boys Isaac & Elijah. We don’t know gender yet but I’m fairly certain it’s another boy and we cannot decide on a name that we both like that goes with our boys and isn’t already taken by someone in our extended family.

Ok, I have an awesome last name. Very cool and flows AMAZINGLY with my first name.

UNFORTUNATELY it’s my ex-partner’s last name. About a week and a half ago, after 6 years, he moved out with one bag of his stuff and ghosted me. Found out he had put in notice at his job, lied to me about it, proceeded to buy a brand new car with me right after, and then after he left I found a reddit post from about a year ago referencing him having multiple sexual partners.

For uh, obvious reasons, I do not want to keep his last name. I also don’t want to go with my maiden name.

I’m looking for something badass, strong, maybe nature themed. Something that will make me feel like I can get through this and anything else life throws at me. Any ideas?

I need a fresh perspective. After going through hundreds of names, I'm fatigued from the pressure to decide, and they all look the same now.

We currently live in Germany, but both of us are expats and we aren't sure if our child will grow up here, so please don't emphasize the German context too much.

To summarize our criteria:

- should more or less work in both Europe and the US

- must have an intuitive pronunciation

- ideally, it should have only one or two alternative spellings. We want to avoid him having to constantly clarify which Phillip, Philipp, Filip, Philippe, Felipe, or Filippo he is

- it shouldn't be too long, edgy, or pretentious. Archibald, Bartholomew, are are too much

- popularity is not a dealbreaker. My partner doesn't mind a top-5 name, but I would personally prefer him not to be the third Noah in his class.

She is stuck with Theo. My silly objection is that it's too Biblical. Literally God is in the name and none of us is religious. Plus, it's extremely popular in Germany to the point of being boring.

I like Lem and Kai, both got rejected.

Tolerated middle ground so far is Edgar, Erik, Oskar, Dominic, Vincent.

Is anyone out there still experiencing baby name regret when their child is preschool age? I can’t believe how much it haunts me.

We are trying to name our last baby (boy) but we like to have two options to chose from after baby is born. So far, we really like Redding but would love a second option as well. All our other kids have surnames/gender neutral, 2 syllable first names with a one syllable second name. Siblings names are as follows:

This is kind of a weird post, but I think it's kind of fun. In old-fashioned logic, there's a mnemonic that starts off Barbara, Celarent, Darii, Ferio. Most of the letters in this mnemonic actually mean something with regards to certain kinds of syllogisms.

My question for you guys is if you can think of other names that fit the pattern, at least in terms of the vowels, the most important part of the mnemonic.

Names, first or last, whose first three vowels are one of these four combinations (order matters):

* AAA

* EAE

* AII

* EIO

bArbArA is the one I know for sure. I'm racking my brain for any others but am having a hard time of it. bAzAAr is a word, but not a name, that would fit the same pattern. If you spell Caesar wrong, you'd have another: 'cEAsEr

Love short, sweet, nature-y, more nickname leaning girl names. Olive fits the bill perfectly but traditional names make it sound very formal and old fashioned (Olive Margot?) when I want the name overall to feel a little bit more fun/whimsical/dreamy.

I have regrets about my daughter’s middle name. It’s not horrible but I felt pressured in the hospital and wishwashy postpartum. Part of me wants to change her middle name to a grandmothers name but the other part of me thinks that it’s not that important in the scheme of things. Like I rarely use or think about my middle name personally. Is the juice worth the squeeze? For anyone who has changed it was it a total pain? She already has a passport 🫠

I have a colleague that I like to wind up. He takes his job way too seriously and is a bit of a tyrant. I thought of some good ones but forgot to write them down.
