META (Subreddit Related) Community Idea: Challenge Run Series

Happy Sunday, fam!

tl;dr, How would we, as a community, feel about hosting regular "Challenge Runs" in games for kicks, giggles, fun stories, and bragging rights?

--

From launch I've always envisioned having regular events, competitions, and challenges for the community. Up to now we hadn't really done anything like that on this sub, but the launch of Splatoon Raiders reignited that idea for me and I thought I'd open a dialogue with all of you to see how we feel about it, how we'd want it executed, and what, if any, rewards or incentives we would like to see from these kinds of things.

I think it's normal to see these kinds of events hosted in specific game subreddits, and as we are a general subreddit for the Switch 2, not everyone will own every new release of a game that participates here. In my opinion it could be a really neat way to have fun together, generate some fun and interesting screenshots and clips, and make for some cool stories along the way.

An example idea for Splatoon Raiders might be a Single Tank Run, Single Weapon Run, an Iron Ink run (how far can you get in one sitting), and/or a Nuzlocke-style Run (single life, no getting splatted!).

As these would be for fun, there'd be a certain element of Honor System for the submissions, though it's something I'd definitely love to hear some feedback on from others who have run these sorts of events in the past.

So what do we think? Could something like this be fun for the community here? Is this something that should be kept more for the game-specific subs? What kind of rewards would you want if we did this? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for the time, everyone!

NEWS Minecoins (Minecraft's currency) will work differently on Switch consoles starting October 27 2026

Starting October 27, 2026, Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo device (Nintendo Switch™ or Switch™ 2) will be available to use only on those systems.

Similarly, Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on another device can no longer be used for Minecraft Marketplace purchases on Nintendo devices October 27 onwards. Minecoins you already own are not changing. and will continue to be usable across compatible platforms.

Its the same thing as with Fortnite, seems like Nintendo want their weird policy to be applied to Minecoins when Minecraft releases on switch 2 on the same date

Discussion Game key cards are better for game preservation than many people realise

First things first:

  • Game cartridges that contain the game data are, of course, better in every respect!
  • I wish there were no game key cards, but only game cartridges containing the whole game!
  • I know I’ll get downvoted to the centre of the earth for trying to mention a positive aspect of GKC ;)

I’d just like to point out a little feature that’s often overlooked, which means that in the event of server outages or the apocalypse, you can still install the games using GKC , whereas you can’t with purely digital game purchases.

Standard Game Cards: Just plug it in and everything works. The game is on the card, and so is the key. Works offline.

Digital purchases: The key is stored on the server. It’s not possible to completely reinstall games that weren’t already on the Switch unless the Virtual Game Card had already been inserted whilst the servers were still online.

GKC: The key is stored offline on the card. No online licence verification is required. You can also easily download the game data from anyone else who has the game on their Switch, without needing a server or an internet connection. Directly below the option to update the game is the option ‘Synchronise Version with local users’. This allows you to set up a Wi-Fi group and download the game data from other Nintendo Switch consoles.

Of course, the major drawback is that you need to know someone who still has the relevant game data on their Switch or SD card so that you can download it from them. However, should the servers go offline at some point, there will certainly be groups or meet-ups organised to download games.

Incidentally, this can also help owners of cards containing game data. Example:

The card contains version 1.0. Over time, the game receives updates and eventually reaches version 1.5. The servers are offline, and you might want to reinstall the game at some point; you do this using your Game Card and end up with version 1.0 installed on your Switch again. All games are backwards compatible when it comes to save files. However, some games cannot load a save file from version 1.5 into the game running version 1.0. In that case, it helps to download the latest version locally via Wi-Fi from another Switch user. Because the game cards usually don’t contain the most recent version of the game, which is the one you may have created your latest save file on

Of course, genuine Game Cards are better in every respect. But the feature that allows you to download game data directly from other Switch users rather than from Nintendo’s servers is somehow often overlooked, and in this particular case, the GKC’s ability to carry out licence verification without using Nintendo’s servers can certainly be useful.

TL;DR: You can download data from Switch games onto other Switch consoles without needing to use Nintendo’s servers (Synchronise Version with local users). The GKC then handles the offline licence check for this.

Game plays pretty damn smooth if you’re on the fence about purchasing. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s not rough around the edges either. No stuttering or obvious frame drops so far!

PLEASE play this game if you haven’t, it’s so unbelievably good and this new upgrade has made it absolutely stunning. The snowy area seriously had me just sitting in awe at a few moments. As someone who has played this game over 10 times. It’s so much fun and it’s only better now.

Discussion The Eshop has a real slopfest problem

I searched the Eshop for "Jigsaw Puzzle". All I wanted to see was if there were any good jigsaw games since I find them relaxing.

My feed is instead flooded with hentai and AI slopfest.

Discussion PSA: Slow Download Speed Fix - Turn off IPv6 in Internet Settings

I was getting really frustrated because my downloads were taking over 8 hours despite having 1 Gbps download speeds. I came across an older thread on here, and a comment from u/Shonryu69 suggested toggling IPv6 off in the Internet settings.

My download immediately went from 8 hours down to 3 minutes. To do it, go to the following:

System settings -> Internet -> Internet Settings -> Select your WiFi/Wired Connection -> Change Settings -> Toggle off IPv6 -> Save

It may not work for everyone, but a lot of people confirmed that it worked for them, too. Just wanted to add more visibility and pass it along in case it helps someone else!

I was curious if the challenges would show under friends profiles similar to achievements on other platforms, but they do not. Didn’t show during the challenge either so that was expected.

The profile icons for finishing the challenges don’t seem to be available yet.

Discussion Metal garden has just released for the Switch and if you enjoy mega structure type games you should give it a shot.

The game has been on steam for a year or so and has great reviews. The devs recently partnered up with a publisher and launched the game on switch this week. If you enjoy mega structure vibes it’s an easy recommendation. They also kept the pricing the same as the Steam version which is nice.

It’s a short 2-4 hour game but it does a lot with so little time. It will most likely get buried under all the Ai and porn games but it deserves a fair shot.

Buttery As a long time Nintendo fan, I’m happy to see ball and gun games on a Nintendo system again.

After years of settling for watered down or bad ports on the Wii and Wii U or not getting anything at all on Switch 1 it feels good to see solid versions of triple A sports and online shooters on a Nintendo system. From Madden 27 to Fortnite running at 60 FPS I’m happy to see these kinds of titles on Switch 2. Even though most of these games are of PS4/XB1 quality, im happy with performance for the most part. I know sports games and online shooters have a bad reputation and honestly rightfully so but they can still be fun for those who enjoy them like myself. I’m elated that I get to play games like Call of Duty along with Star Fox and Super Smash Bros or playing Madden after playing Kirby Air Riders. 60 FPS NBA2K is around the corner and Marvel Rivals being confirmed makes me feel that optimization is only getting better for the system to bring in fans of those types of games. (Hopefully COD gets better before launch.) Outside of exclusives my PS5/XSX can finally now rest lol. Are there any other long time Nintendo fans who are happy that Switch 2 is getting solid ports of sports and online shooter games after all these years?

Media Elden Ring fans. How vastly different is this game from BotW. Is it too difficult to play.

Post image
606 Upvotes

I tried playing Hollow Knight and Silksong. The difficulty was not enjoyable. Although it might be the game mechanics that turned me off more. Dying and having to back track to get your geo was annoying.

I did like Dread difficult boss battles. Sometimes I wanted to chuck my controller but kept going back until I finally beat it.

I hear Elden Ring was inspired by BotW which is my all time favorite game. It's the exploration that is so much fun. There was a new surprise at every corner, ledge, Cliff, etc... Is Elden Ring like this in exploration? It's our required to beat the boss in order to progress? BotW, you're not required to beat the Lynels, mini bosses littered throughout the game. Even the 4 Gannon like bosses you're not required to beat. Is Elden Ring like this? You can progress through most of the game without having to beat all the bosses?
