Support User Desktop does not start
My desktop does not wanna start after login. I did following troubleshooting: https://wiki.nobaraproject.org/general-usage/troubleshooting/black-screen
Everything described works except the last step. When I run startplasma-wayland the command stucks without any error. However when I login as root I can start and switch to desktop with the described workflow. If I would have to make a wild guess I would say its the recent AI wallpapers. I used one and maybe they were not removed carefully enough?
Anyway, since the desktop is working the issue seems to be not that big and I wonder what the script actually runs and how do I debug further from this point?
edit1: I made some progress. I created a new standard user and I could login without any problems. It seems that only the desktop of my original user is broken and not any desktop besides the superuser :)
edit2: Ok, users desktop is accessable again. Not 100% sure what went wrong but seems like a flatpak file xdg-desktop-portal was corrupted.

Question How to use sddm (or atleast the amazing lockscreens I see online) on nobara?
So, I downloaded an sddm theme (I think it was pixel-landscapes or something), and also installed sddm. However, whenever I use nobara-sync, the sddm seems to get deleted. Is there any way to prevent this, or to somehow use the QML with whatever nobara uses?

Question Program missing from Terra
When Nobara switched from RPMFusion to Terra I lost my favorite music player, cmus.
What's the best approach here? Should I compile and install the program manually? Readd RPMFusion? Something else entirely?

Support Nobara as a whole has been very slow to do just about anything.
First let me say I've truly loved being on nobara. But I installed it on an hdd. Which I'm thinking may be part of the problem. But I'll try my best to explain. So starting up. Is fine. Load time is no problem at all. But then when it comes to starting applications. It just starts going super slow. Like I'll click on steam and it takes several minutes just to start signing in. I've tested my network and my speed is nearly a gigabit. Latency is also very low. But it's not only steam even just the KDE UI I'll open the start menu and it freezes for several seconds then I'm able to interact. Or I open Firefox. It takes a while to load. Then I get to a video or something and the video is lagging and all buttons aren't interactible. But then it snaps back to reality lol.
I'm just wondering where I can start to try and fix this. I know I haven't left in the USB from when I installed nobara. My ram usage is super low. With Firefox and steam open I'm at about 3-4gb out of 32. Cpu usage while doing daily tasks rarely goes over 20%. So what else could be causing this? As I said in the beginning I have the os installed on an HDD. perhaps moving it to an ssd would be better. Or making a partition on my nvme and cloning my os to it?
I would appreciate some help here because I love using Linux way more than windows but these relatively minor roadblocks are a bit annoying. Not world ending of course. Just a moderate annoyance.

Discussion Use nobara-sync, not dnf upgrade
As title says. And i have made this error too. Just because this is fedora doesnt mean dnf upgrade is the best way to update. Check the documentation, you need to do nobara-sync or nobara-sync cli

Support Flickering screen with new update
Word of caution. I updated everything and when I walked away for a little while the pc went to sleep. I then came back and upon waking it up it started flicker uncontrollably. It has rendered everything completely unusable.

Question Does Nobara breaks often?
I been using Fedora workstation on a potato thinkpad for school and stuff and now I'm building a PC for gaming. I've been considering Nobara for the Fedora base and becouse everything I want comes ready to go, also I don't want an immutable system like Bazzite for the limitations it comes with.
The thing is that I've been checking this subreddit for a while and it gives the impression that Nobara breaks just for installing or updating anything so I want to know if I should expect to troubleshoot like I was in Arch.
EDIT: It seems it's not a common issue so I'm glad. I'll install it on my build.

Question Question about Nobara's codec support
My 2017 potato laptop is currently running Fedora 44. I'm an avid gamer and absolutely loving most of the Windows games I play on the regular runs and plays on Linux.
However, some of the Windows games I play like Iron Sky Invasion and Terminator: Resistance has cutscene movies in the WMV video format. Unfortunately, I found that, even after following all multimedia codecs in Fedora to the letter, not even any of the Iron Sky Invasion briefings will play.
So my question is, does Nobara include all the codecs that allows all Steam games like Iron Sky Invasion and Terminator: Resistance play they're WMV-formated videos?
I ask because I like playing Iron Sky Invasion in particular but no longer want to be turned away from the game because none of it's briefings won't play.

Question Synology Active Backup for Business on Nobara?
This is the last piece of info I need to feel confident about swapping my daily driver to Nobara or Linux as a whole. Synology does offer ABB for Linux using an .rpm download but it has no documentation about how to set it up. I have attempted a couple times on a VM version. One result was learning that ABB is available for Fedora 40.
Does anyone have experience setting this up that can share some steps/notes? I have other things running through my Synology NAS and would like to keep my home consistent. Any tips?

Support Nobara Linux Stuck in a weird terminal limbo.
So i've installed nobara and was quite surprised that it took less ram that windows 11 (starting to hate windows and im looking for THE distro for me and linux mint is a no for me since it is quite... weird). It was my FIRST bootup after installing it. everything worked smoothly until i had to go so i SHUT IT DOWN WITH THE OPTION IN THE START MENU. was nearly instant which shocked me. anyways.. i booted it up again (like 3 hours after) AND I HAD THE TERMINAL. i tried to fix it but NOOOO. ONLY TERMINAL. that probably means that the kernel is alright excluding for the GUI side (probably because of the constantly crashing explorer/taskbar). Can anyone help?

Support LACT causing steam to become laggy and crash.
I just got LACT working. And whenever it's open steam just completely starts moving at a snails pace. Then the moment I close the program it's back to normal. Any idea what could be causing this?
Edit: it's now not just steam. The whole os is lagging now. Brave taking minutes to load. Even just trying to restart took a whole minute just to hit the button. I managed to restart so hopefully it'll be fine now. But I'm still wondering what could've happened

It seems to me that the link is broken. So, I just ran nobara-sync, but the issue still persists. Why, and how to actually fix this?

Support New kernel incompatible with NVidia 1070 drivers?
As the title says, ever since the latest update, I've been unable to install the last drivers that still work with my GPU (580.173.02) as they keep running into issues while building the kernel modules.
I've searched everywhere, and the closest thing I found to an explanation is that the 7.2.0 kernel aggressively deprecated the strncpy function, which the installer uses in various places.
So... am I just doomed to let my dedicated GPU sit there like a useless lump of silicon, or is there some way to address this issue?
I can't paste the whole log file, but here's the first error it comes across:
nvidia/linux_nvswitch.c: In function 'nvswitch_os_read_registry_dword':
nvidia/linux_nvswitch.c:2040:5: error: implicit declaration of function 'strncpy' [-Wimplicit-function-declaration]

Support Odd video playback issue happening recently.
I'm not sure if this is a Youtube issue, a Nobara Issue, a codec issue or what.. but over the last few days I've noticed that video occasionally bands into 4 segments with differing luma values.
Does anyone have any thoughts? It happened before I updated yesterday. I have updated codecs today and no change.
When I play a video from my server through Jellyfin the same issue isn't happening so I'm thinking it might be a Youtube issue. But I figured I'd start here.
(Episode of Mythbusters... he us just letting fish touch his feet)
EDIT - So after some testing this morning... I realized Falkon doesn't have the issue... and then realized Falkon doesn't have hardware acceleration on.
I turned off Hardware Acceleration and the issue disappeared. It is a MESA issue. So I will just keep hardware acceleration off until I update MESA with a fix. odd that it ONLY happens with Youtube.

Other Claude Desktop on Fedora 44, now built from the official Linux release. Claude Code + Cowork work.
Anthropic finally ships a Linux build, but only as a .deb. This repo takes that exact package and adapts it for Fedora as a proper RPM. No more hacking the Windows installer, which broke on recent versions anyway (app opened, Code tab dead).
Everything works now: Code tab, Cowork, MCP, sandbox on. Tested on KDE and GNOME, Wayland.
Happy clauding!

Question Okay so I wanna clone my os to a different drive and I have a couple questions
So I've done some reading and it seems my options are either clonezilla or rescuezilla. Now my main question is this. If the drive I'm cloning to has been used in windows is it recommended to format the drive in any specific way?
My other query is if either program has any advantage over the other.
And finally. Once I clone the drive one way or another how can I go about removing the os from the old hdd.
I've tried my best to do some searching so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I'm just still very new lol.

Discussion Aug 25: new system update strategy
Interesting notification today when I updated my Nobara system
August 25, 2026 — Nobara's updater has been updated to update packages prioritizing important groups first, with full rollback per-group automated in case of a failure, including dkms/kmod compile failures and initramfs regeneration. Ordered transactions: Kernel → Graphic stack → System core → Desktop environment → Non-essential (any packages not defined in these groups will be appended to non-essential). The goal here is so that when a large set of updates is available, it updates important bits first group by group so as to not break the system, as opposed to all packages at once being attempted in one massive point of failure. Hoping this provides a better overall update experience. Large updates in Nobara are something that have always been a controversial pain point, and we're constantly working on making the experience better. I shouldn't have to mention this but this is specific to nobara-sync/nobara-updater, (which is also used in the dnf app center) -- not the default dnf command. For those using Nobara you may already know nobara-sync is the recommended and preferred method for updating the system as a whole.
It sounds like a reasonable change, I think I saw it in action today where it updated Nvidia drivers first, then KDE settings, and then more ordinary userspace.
But the seeming fragility of Nobara updates is the one thing that makes me a bit nervous about it. This is my first time using an RPM-based distro in 20+ years. But years of using Debian/Ubuntu dpkg gave me the expectation that I could say "update everything" and it'd just work no matter how complex the upgrades. Is that true for base Fedora? I know Nobara is adding a lot of package complexity, just don't love it has this custom tool for handling it.
