😮💨 Rant Literally why
Wtf am I paying for when the LRT is delayed by 30+ minutes, on top of the hour it takes to commute downtown from Barrhaven, and I am rushing to get to a job that could’ve been done remotely. Why do we create these problems in the first place and bend over backwards to find solutions to our own bullshit? Why is no one doing anything about this? What is stopping us from not accepting this shitty reality?

Idk if it's cowardice or corruption but PS union leaders were handed an issue that could have united almost the entire employee base and the best they could do was suggest people don't buy lunch and coffee.. it's infuriating

The negotiations started before wfh could be formally added to the issues list, so it was a bit of a bad timing issue.
But this time around, it's front and centre.

I think that taxpayers deserve a workforce that is being directly supervised.
Just about everyone in Ottawa knows Gov workers that were abusing wfh.

I think the taxpayers deserve the government not bending over to cater to the real estate conglomerates that caused the housing crisis, but that's just me.

Most all profit driven companies are now in office - they would obviously prefer not to pay brick and mortar costs but have determined it is a net benefit. The real estate industry has no control over them.
For your insult about licking boots to a concerned taxpayer, remember me when your boots get cold and damp during your winter commutes lol

It's great that my wife's precovid 45-60 minute drive is now 1h30m. Very good for my family. Very good to consider moving cross town to trade family support for traffic time. Maybe.

Taxpayers Do deserve a workforce that is being supervised. Thats never been the problem or whay anyones argued about. Supervising and meeting expectations doesnt change regardless of where someone works. If it does thats a managerial problem. This false stereotype of lazy public servants need to go the way of the typewriter.

The one good thing about working weekend shifts was I was getting to do groceries on a Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon.
Once ottawa WFH started, the stores were packed with Government ppl during "workdays".
..and ask any Dollorama, Loblaws, etc, employee: Saturday,Sunday and evening traffic was cut in half cuz federal employees shopped during their supposed wfh

It's not hard to meet your work objectives when you only have 20 hours of work due each week.
Hey, we're all from Ottawa, and all have family members, close friends, neighbors etc in the civil service....we see how you are not working...there's a reason why 99% of government are lifers while everyone in the real world is forced to change jobs ( at high personal cost) all the time.

At the early stages of COVID I couldn't even log onto the remote access system for close to a month before they upgraded stuff. It sucked. I hated having to log in after hours download stuff in the short time slot I had and hope that was all I needed for the next day.

You could ask the same thing about our healthcare, education, cost of living.. The failings are across the board in all 3 levels of government. I think the problems are so numerous that people don't even know where to start. But mostly it's just apathy.

You can reach out to your councilor, they are aware of the bus issues. But i want to see real solutions imo. They want to direct all bus traffic to Tunneys Pasture for everyone going south, personally that makes no sense to go west to south when you could go to Bayview then go south. Tunneys is already a shit show, maybe we shouldn't direct all the traffic there. Just my two cents.

And it's quite a hike going through a maze of people at Tunneys and 75, 74 aren't even near each other. I could go on and on about the problems with Tunneys Pasture lol

Both Barrhaven councillors voted for RTO, knowing that public transit service does not support their own districts. That's who we need answers from. I have asked, but they don't answer.

Move closer to your job. Bike, park and ride closer than barrhaven. Carpool with coworkers, neighbors... It's ottawa, those are your solutions to transit. Nobody is coming to save us.

That's not a solution for the large number of ppl who work for the biggest single employer in town, plus all the other businesses downtown, and people who don't who still rely on a very poorly funded and run public transit system.
At some point. The public transit system needs to take real real blame.

Well you're not going to find a solution on reddit. Unfortunately not everyone in this city works downtown or for "the biggest single employer" but I'd love too so if you're not happy with your commute... I'd be happy to take your place. Me and the other thousands of people who are unemployed lol at some point people should just accept that transit won't be anything worth talking about for at least another decade.

My point is if they funded transit better it wouldn't need to be a shuttle service for the downtown a bunch of the day, and they could try to spread more of those busses out if the LRT worked properly too.
There's just a lot of issues and I'm not saying I don't want to work. I'm saying moving across town to hopefully reduce a commute when OCtranspo is unreliable no matter where you live doesn't work. And traffic is worse because Transpo sucks.
And the city wants us back downtown, but can't fix transit to make it work. It's all a mess. If they want to run less busses like they have been maybe they deserve lower ridership. And if they want less busses and more riders, forcing us downtown isn't gonna help
