The Animal came up when I shuffling trying to find a movie to watch a week ago, and totally forgot she was lead actress in it. That's how loved she was, she was given the lead role in a movie.

u/HalfSoul30 1d ago
I forgot all about this movie, and what thinking of that other one which i think is called the hot chick this whole time until I realized again they were different. Probably the waxing also sounding like some kind of animal.

She was also in that awful Rob Schneider movie The Animal.
She was the best part of that movie.

I had to google Colleen, I was like "Why is she so familiar?!" Then I remembered the only season of Survivor I ever finished.

u/rnavstar 20h ago
She was also in the really bad Rob Schneider movie…..guess that doesn’t narrow it down. It was called Animal.

Same on it being the only season. I was so naive about the manipulation that goes into reality shows, and was big mad when Richard won that one. Left a terrible taste.
10
u/Kevin_Uxbridge 1d ago
Seem to recall one contestant at least saying that the Mark Burnett himself spent time haranguing him about 'don't you think Richard played a great game? Don't you think he deserves to win?'
They were probably right that this was the more interesting result, I mean here we are talking about it decades later. But the show was not what it pretended to be, right from the start.

Colleen had a girl next door appeal and I thought she might stay in the public eye since she was cast in a movie so quickly. Rob Schneider’s “The Animal” which made a $50 million profit.

u/Virtual_Ad_8712 1d ago
I never knew if The Animal was a box office hit but it was a huge favorite of mine on dvd back in the day. Colleen was charming in the movie.

u/TheGrandExquisitor 1d ago
Wait...that movie MADE money?

u/Li0nsFTW 1d ago
Schneider was big for a bit.
South Park summed up his career quite well.

u/Flurb4 1d ago
Deuce Bigalow was a big hit.

1st DVD I ever bought was Deuce Bigelow, Male Giggilo. Well that and The Cell. Pretty much explains my personality.

I mean, I know, but even when the film came out, it was obvious it was trashier than his usual trash.

Just caught this episode again….”Rob Schneider as a stapler and he's about to find out that being a stapler is harder than it looks. Rob Schneider is... The Stapler.” 😂

Rob Schneider was, for a moment, almost Adam Sandler tier. Especially due to the fact Sandler let him ride his coattails.
I'll always remember him for what he was.

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 1d ago
Where is he now?
Lol jk

Which is SO unfortunate. A lot of those actors from that time period cashed in and then lived life in obscurity or would appear in cameos/callbacks. And then Schneider just... Not even Pauly Shore went off the deep end like that. And he laments losing his fame.

u/SquirrelMemoryFail 1d ago
The first Tomb Raider was out at that time to. I had to tell Rob Schnieder himself I saw Tomb Raider over his movie. But what teenage boy wouldn't go for boobs over a guy who was acting like an animal?
3
u/SupremeMonsterVomit 1d ago
How did it come around that you got to tell him yourself? How did he react?
18
u/SquirrelMemoryFail 1d ago
He came walking out of a theater about the same time I did after watching the movies. He went and saw his movie with the groupies he had around him. He asked what movie I saw and understood why we chose Tomb Raider and wasnt upset or disappointed. He was pretty chill about the whole thing and even signed an autograph for me. Honestly he was pretty nice dude and im glad to have met him.

Sounds like it was mainly her choice not the lack of opportunities. She didn’t like being in the public eye.

Before he let the world know how much of a dedicated tool he was and is, Schneider did have a little run going as a bankable “actor” and actually racked up a few hits.
Bet that feels like a million years ago for his stupid ass now though.

u/DeadpoolLuvsDeath 1d ago
His last big movie Big Stan was a decent watch. After all I've heard recently I'll pass on future projects.

I listened to an interview with him many years ago and he claimed that she was either fighting with her bf or was drunk on set and chainsmoking Marlboro Reds. He claimed that her drinking ruined her career. In reality, she was probably drinking to forget that she had to make out with Schneider in the movie.

Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
45
u/GovernorHarryLogan 1d ago
This is pre replacement. Not so complicated until then
11
u/TasteCicles 1d ago
What was replaced?

u/Braakman 1d ago
There's a weird conspiracy theory about Avril not actually being Avril. The 'proof' is all things that tend to change about people as they get older.
18
u/TheBabySealsRevenge 1d ago
she has very distinctive features though where would this even come from is this like the Beatles old "paul is dead" theory?
51
u/Spicy_Jim 1d ago
If you look carefully at the reflection in John's glasses on the Sgt. Pepper cover, you can see 2 Avril Lavignes looking at each other.
24
u/Braakman 1d ago
Fairly sure it was started by some blog around 2010 specifically to show how easy fake news spreads.
3
u/avantgardengnome 1d ago
Yeah it’s absolutely a bit, whereas the McCartney people were fairly serious afaik, at least in the beginning.

It’s a fun theory with things like different ways she sings live after a certain point, the different more poppy direction she took after her first album, and a photograph of her with “Melissa” written on her hand
The idea is that she had a body double called Melissa for some public appearances. Then she died, and the record company paid Melissa to take over from her. Melissa agreed but was more into pop pop than pop punk and has a different singing voice
As others have mentioned, it was actually created by a blogger as proof of how easily conspiracy theories can spread. He even labelled it as fake, right from the first paragraph he wrote. And even without that, it’s obviously nonsense
But it’s fun

u/avantgardengnome 1d ago
Avril Lavigne was replaced soon after she invented punk rock. She was a threat to the status quo and had to be silenced.
7
u/tulilatum 1d ago
Yes, Status Quo are not to be threatened. They can just draft you to the army.
3
2
u/unassumingdink 1d ago
Americans don't know Status Quo. Maybe "Pictures of Matchstick Men," but even that is a stretch for the ones under 70.

I’m pretty sure this look has only worked for like a dozen people, and all of us thought it was so cool we needed to make sure we weren’t number 13.

Growing up in Arizona, there was a time in middle school where any classmate that went to Mexico over break returned with braids. Bonus points if there were beads!

In this moment, Avril was simply a regular teenager stopping a popular reality TV star for a standard fan photo. The image has since become an internet fascination because it accidentally documented a future global music icon crossing paths with a pioneer of reality television before their fame reversed roles.

Finally! I get to be the “I went to school with them” person. I was in the same grade as Colleen throughout high school (maybe jr high, too) and we hung out a decent amount. I probably still saw her from time to time in our early 20s. We didn’t really stay in touch after that though.
She was very nice and I hope she’s doing well.

There is this crazy, obsessed Avril fan on Instagram who posts fake marriage stories about him and her every day for like a year. It's scary to look at. I wonder how long he's been obsessed and if he's lurking here somewhere lol

When your friend just got home from their family vacation in Jamaica and won't shut the fuck up about it.
