Hey there, welcome to the weekly OT consult thread! Please read everything here before you comment down below.

Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.

How to help us help you:

  • Photos that show your face, neck and chest
  • High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can
  • No filters, no/minimal makeup - should go without saying, but just a reminder
  • You next to other people for contrast
  • Share foundation, blush, or lipstick shades that look great or terrible on you

The more of these bullets you hit, the better!

Use a link to an Imgur album for photos. If you don't want your pictures to be public, you can set them to be hidden, but anybody with a link will be able to see it.

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

I recently bought this glossier stretch concealer for no makeup makeup look and the formula is incredible. I bought the shade medium 2 and I don't know if it entirely works for me. If there is another shade that could be better for me in the glossier line, kindly suggest, that would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Product Help Liquid/cream shadow recs!

Hi lovely people of this sub!
Help a girl out!

I posted here recently asking for berry blush recs and got some of the most amazing recs.

Posting again to get your recs/help to find a good cream/liquid eyeshadow that looks like the pictures below. Very one and done.

For reference I am a pale cool neutral olive - so a lotttt of things pull muddy/orange very easily. For eyes I do have eyelids that are a bit pigmented compared to the rest of my face.

The creator in the video is wearing Lisa Eldridge liquid lurex in the shade Cressida. I was about to buy it but realised it leans quite champagne with gold shimmers so might not work.

Thank you all in advance ❤️

Discussion Blush and bronzer help!

I’m having a hard time finding makeup that fits my skin tone and blushes/bronzers regularly turn bright orange on me 😭

Good matches:
Lisa Eldridge t2.5 (a tad too saturated but still works)
Missha purple BB cream 21 (disappears)
About face F2Olive (a tad too saturated but still works)

First pic is dead of winter, last is after getting tanner this summer. All are in front of a window, no direct sunlight.

Any help is appreciated. I’m on the hunt for blush and bronzer that doesn’t look too warm or like makeup. Phytosurgeance condensate looked promising but turned orange on me 🥲

Am I even olive? Am I barking up the wrong tree 😭

I love this palette! Some of the shimmers and mattes are definitely not as pigmented as others, I was disappointed in the 3 mattes on the bottom and the two on top for needing to be built up a little (gave up on the last one lol).

Believe I’m a neutral muted olive, light to medium, leaning cool but with slightly warm overtones. Armani shade 5.3 is my match and Natasha Denoma Hy-Glam N7. I usually go for dusty taupe, griege, and purples on my eyes.

ETA:

Petaline - cool nude pink
Orchidee - shimmery petal pink
Amethyste - warm bronze taupe
Taupeline - cool taupe grey
Lilase - muted cool lilac
Violine - deep violet
Opaline - blue-magenta shimmer
Ipomee - pink-violet shimmer
Prisme - rose-mauve shimmer
Sureau - smoky lilac grey
Charoite - cool stone taupe
Prunelle - elderberry purple-brown

and then I saw this picture of myself and was like who am I kidding? 😂

has anyone else gone through this? Sometimes I use products (foundation and concealer) marked as olive and it just looks too green or off on me.

I used to think I’m a warm olive but I think I lean more neutral!

Product Help Too Faced Blush Shade Match

Post image
6 Upvotes

Are any of the current Too Faced blushes comparable with Justify My Love? It's my favourite and I'm scared of it running out.

Actually as you can see, Your Love is King was my true favourite!!

I looked at the cloud crush blushes in Mecca and they seem a bit more warm toned, but Candy Clouds and Golden Hour both look beautiful.

Have not tried on my face so wondering if anyone here has tried and loved them, or have swatches to share?

I'd rather not deviate from Too Faced, as no other blush formula ever compares!

Product Help Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint 1.5 vs 5

Does anybody have swatches of these next to each other? I cant afford to spring for one and have it not work. I'm a light warm olive. My best foundation matches:

About Face f2o (too fair, way too peach)

Judydoll b15 cushion (too fair but closest match by far, I just hate cushions)

NARS LR Gobi (meh, close but not quite)

Koh Gen Doh Aqua 213 (very close but too deep)

I lowkey think ill be between the two shades which is infuriating. I prefer very sheer coverage though so I think i'm gonna go for t5?

Discussion One/size b12 base thinner

PSA I love the one/size b12 base thinner for making a skin tint out of my foundation! If you are wanting a lighter coverage complexion product but don’t have a separate skin tint that matches I highly recommend this product and it’s half off at Sephora (US) today. https://www.sephora.com/product/b12-base-thinner-luminous-vitamin-pearl-boosting-serum-P515065?om_mmc=oth-textmsg-mobileappshare

Product Help does my blush combo work on me?

Thumbnail

I can’t tell if the blush combo I've been wearing this weekend actually flatters my muted neutral-warm olive skin, or if it’s pulling too pink/red and giving me a slightly rash-y look :')

These were taken in a couple different lighting situations. Would you keep this shade, or do you think I should lean towards another kind of blush color for my 'pink'?

Blush Products:
• Glossier Cloud Paint in Storm + Rom&nd Juicy Roll Cheek in Nougat Coco as liquid base (mixed)
• Canmake Powder Cheeks in P01 + Colourpop's Blush Crush eyeshadow palette shade Enamored as powder/shimmer finish on top

Product Help Cool toned and desaturated lip liner

I’ve used Urban Decay Liar lip liner for years as my only liner. From time to time I’ve tried to dupe and I come up empty. I’ve never truly needed to replace it, but they’ve changed the formula and packaging and now it’s so bad in me. I’m desperate for something similar. It was a cool toned mauve that was so creamy and blendable but lasted for so long. My previous HG was the Kat Von D lolita shade, but looks like it was discontinued when it was acquired.
Does anyone have recommendations? I’m gonna go check out MAC at ulta today, but not sure what else I should consider.
Thanks in advance!

Swatch Request [Swatch Request] Red Chamber C000 / C400 vs Girlcult #18 Invisible Rosy? (Desaturated "anti-blush" recs for tan olive skin)

hi everyone! i'm looking for swatches or comparisons of red chamber (c000 or c400) and girlcult #18 invisible rosy OR like any other desaturated "anti-blush" type recs that might work for me. i have medium tan olive skin (for reference: shade 7.8 in armani luminous silk) and i'm on the hunt for a blush ideally something toasty-ish or a subtle berry. i just purchased invisible rosy but it pulls a little more berry on me, so i'd love to see how it compares to those two rc shades.

the labels were a bit confusing at the store but the shades looked very contour/cool-toned on me which i LOVED. i couldn't find the actual names for the rc blushes so i hope the codes are enough ?? (possibly toodow, tengwei, chumei, or jenchun)

also open to any other desaturated anti-blush recs that might work for me! thanks sm!

Swatches Foundations, skin tints and concealers

Just adding to the eternal pit of the internet some swatches of my complexion products. It's been a wild ride to find a match so this might be helpful for someone. For context I'm a fair-light neutral-cool olive and have dry skin. The closest match right now is the Lisa Eldridge skin tint and the Dior concealer (might seem like a weird match but I have dark circles so when I don't feel like using a color corrector (Huda Beauty in shade Cherry Light) the Dior concealer gives me the most natural look comparing to the rest of the face).

So, small review:

  • Hourglass skin tints in shades 3 and 1: some people hate it, I love it. Wears well for the whole day and doesn't separate. Has medium coverage but can look greasy if too much is applied. My only con is that it gets kinda patchy when I use my Haus Labs blushes. I use shade 3 during the summer and shade 1 the rest of the year, sometimes mixing the two if I've caught some sun.
  • About Face foundation in shade F2 Olive: sometimes it feels it a big greasy so I don't use it during summer, but it's a great match specially during spring. It's also a win because of the price point. I've never tried building the coverage but as a light-medium it wears well.
  • Lisa Eldridge skin tint in shade 1.5: what can I say? She's that girl. Buildable coverage and looks great even if putting too much. The shade match is immaculate. Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all. Just gets better as the day goes on.
  • Haus Labs foundation in shade 050 (fair golden): my only full coverage foundation and it's wonderful for dry skin. Wears great during the day, doesn't feel too heavy and doesn't accentuate my smile lines.
  • Chanel Les Beiges Eau de Tint in shade Light: my go-to for no-makeup makeup looks. It has the lightest coverage I've ever seen but I'm obsessed with it. To be honest, to wear this one you have to feel happy about how your skin looks without makeup because it evens out the skin tone just a bit. I love using it during the summer because it feels like nothing on the skin but it's hydrating and gives such a natural glow. I only pair this one with the tiniest bit of Dior concealer.
  • Dior Forever Skin Correct concealer in shade 1N: my favorite concealer hands down. Creamy, hydrating, buildable coverage, works great with all of my skincare underneath and also my powder and setting spray. Literally looks like skin. Also I understand that the price point is high but it contains 11 ml. of product, against the Haus Labs one for example, that costs even more and only has 7 ml. of product.
  • About Face concealer in shade F20: works seamlessly with the AF foundation. Good coverage, buildable, a bit more hydrating than the foundation.
  • Haus Labs concealer in shade 02 (fair golden): works seamlessly with the HL foundation but goes great with all of them. This one is high coverage and it's a great match for me during winter. Doesn't feel drying nor heavy. Can also be used to spot conceal.
  • Elf Hydrating Camo in shade Fair Beige: this one was my first concealer when I started my makeup journey. I don't use it nowdays except for some crazy pre-shower makeup. It creases during the day no matter how I set it, but perhaps that's a me problem. It's still a good concealer for beginners because it can be laid very thin if desired and coverage can be build a bit.

Swatches Olive friendly blushes

I spent forever looking for blushes that wouldn’t look coral on me, so I thought these swatches might be useful for some of you. For reference, I’m a pale neutral olive, about MAC NC15 (although I don’t wear foundation so can’t say for sure). I’m based in the UK and can’t easily get my hands on Phytosurgence.

Quick notes on all of them:
- Kiko eyeshadow: Allegedly a dupe for Phytosurgence (Condensate I believe?). Beautiful colour but I mostly use it on my eyes. My skin is dry and I tend to reach for liquid blushes more often. This one goes on patchy if I don’t powder my cheeks.
- Rare beauty liquid blush: I hate it. It’s way too pigmented, goes patchy no matter how I apply it and pulls too pink on me when blended out. I imagine it would work better if your skin tone is deeper.
- MCo beauty liquid blush: The latest addition to my makeup collection and my current favourite. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I swatched it - it’s literally the perfect olive friendly blush colour and it’s so easy to work with. It’s basically what I wanted the Rare Beauty blush to be: sheer and blendable, yet long lasting. 10/10, no notes!
- Inglot lip pencil: It’s one of these Rhode-type chunky lip liners. Super easy to put on my lips and cheeks when I want a quick monochromatic look.
- Sephora liquid lipstick: I love using liquid lipsticks as a blush on a well moisturised dewy base. The Sephora range has such a great selection of olive friendly shades. I reach for this one a lot. My lips are also very dry and I avoid liquid matte lipsticks, but this one is one of the few I don’t find unbearable to wear!
- Mac True Harmony: The swatch speaks for itself 😂 It pulls VERY orange. That being said, I like to use it when I’m tanned and fancy looking sun kissed (approx. 3 days of the year)

I hope this helps! I can do lip products next if anyone wants more swatches.

Product Help best concealer for a light-medium olive?

I have light-medium olive skin with NEUTRAL undertones that lean warm

I've been relying on color corrector but I'd really like to find a CONCEALER that I can use WITHOUT color corrector.

I would prefer a doe foot applicator for precision

Product Help Corrector/Concealer alternative to MAC's studio fix conceal and correct

I've been using MAC's Studio Fix Conceal and Correct Palette in Medium. My skintone is closest to NC30 in this palette though I'm a little deeper with more yellow/olive. I'm tired of trying to make this work. Two issues.

The formula. It doesn't stick enough after reaching body temperature even when set. And that means it isn't really buildable. I want to be able to even out the color of small scars, old melasma, and some small broken blood vessels, eye circles. It doesn't have to be an opaque level of coverage.

The shades.
The yellow and pink "correctors" on the bottom are weak. I need more intense, less sheer colors. I'm not against having a pale color corrector, I'm not against a "brightening" color, but this palette ONLY has pale color correctors. They're too pale on their own, but if I mix them, I just get something pale with no color pay off.
The two center shades are too orange for me. They don't work as contour or bronzer either. The palette has ZERO options for neutralizing orange.
If I go up to MAC's Medium-Deep, I end up with a better yellow, but more orange-y shades, no shade close to mine, and instead of a pinky peach it jumps to an orange-y coral.
There's no green to be found anywhere.

And maybe this isn't the product line for me?

Should I look at one of the brands aimed at "pros?" Would the concealer or corrector palettes in the Bill Nye work for me? Ideally I'd like something that can stick to skin directly. But also one that can "tint" a cream foundation enough for spot correction. I could really use a good pink yellow and green. And I'd much rather have a palette or "wheel" than carry and open multiple little containers.

Color Theory Traditional "color harmony" indeas and rules go out the window with olive skin.

Have you noticed that since olive skin is inherently more muted and desaturated than skin with alot of red/pink or orange/yellow Pheomelanin, rather we lean warm or cool is less relevant than chroma and hue? There is always a neutral leaning base. Thats why dusky jewel tones look good on us. Conventional color temperature guides and rules seem to be less relevant for us than contrast, chroma and hue. I feel like color specialist fail us because they often fail to recognize the nuance. Those systems are trending right now. But I feel like we literally needed spaces like this one, to understand our unique beauty when conventional advice fails us.

What colors do you guys like to wear clothing wise as a light medium neutral leaning cool tone olive? Going to a wedding soon and I’m trying to buy outfits online. I guess it’s subjective but I thought I’d ask to get some input lol especially since most of my makeup leans cooler like my lippies and my blush

Product Alert Anybody ever try a DIY foundation kit?

I'm tired of wasting my time/money/energy trying foundations and concealers only to throw them out or awkwardly try repurposing them.

CDF supplies sells this foundation base:

https://cdfsupplies.com/collections/face-eyes/products/cdf-blurring-foundation-base-customizable

And these mixers:

https://cdfsupplies.com/collections/face-eyes/products/cdf-flexi-shade-foundation-mixers

Any reason why this option isn't more popular? Something I should know?
