News GPT-6

Sam Altman says GPT-6 “Astra” is already approaching human-level performance at using computers.

And with the recent reports that OpenAI bought tens of thousands of Mac minis / Mac Studios specifically for computer-use training, I’m actually starting to think this might not be pure hype.

Could be looking at a pretty massive productivity jump if this is real.

Computer use is already one of the areas where Codex feels way ahead of the competition, so I’m pretty excited to see where this goes.

The filing is here https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.474095/gov.uscourts.cand.474095.94.1.pdf

Some really spicy claims in there. Seems like an agent may have found and used proprietary information.

News OpenAI Blames Apple's Own iCloud Policy in Trade-Secret Suit

OpenAI has told a San Jose federal judge that Apple's trade-secret suit against it is "a mess of Apple's own making, and it is trying to blame everyone else." The response, [filed Monday](https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/openai-says-apple-has-only-itself-blame-trade-secret-fight-2026-09-01/) in US District Court, points the blame back at Apple's own security practices rather than at any conduct by former engineers.

The core argument is about hygiene. OpenAI says Apple encourages employees to use personal iCloud accounts to access work documents, then immediately escorts departing staff off the premises without enough time to return devices, transfer internal files or hand over responsibilities. In that account, the mixing of personal and company data is Apple's own doing.

Apple sued OpenAI and former Apple employees Tang Tan and Chang Liu in July, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets tied to hardware design, manufacturing and supply-chain operations as Sam Altman's company pushes into consumer devices. Both sides' filings put OpenAI's hiring from Apple at roughly 400 people for that hardware initiative. OpenAI contends the suit is really about slowing a competitor and discouraging further departures, and invokes California law allowing employees to move freely between rivals.

The volley follows [yesterday's coverage](https://aiweekly.co/alerts/apple-filing-says-ex-engineer-used-its-schematic-at-openai) of Apple's filing about a former engineer allegedly using its schematic at OpenAI, the second Apple-versus-OpenAI story on our tracker in two days. Apple's request for expedited discovery is scheduled for a hearing on October 1.

Question I’m 27. OpenAI misread my Taiwan ID issue date as my DOB, deleted my account as “under 13,” then rejected my appeal in ~5 minutes

Discussion Has anyone here used Mem0 or Supermemory for actual daily AI work?

I've been looking at the cross-AI memory space and something doesn't add up. Mem0 claims 150,000+ developers. Supermemory claims 10,000+ power users. But when you look for real reviews, named testimonials, or community discussions about actual workflows, there's almost nothing.

Mem0 reads like infrastructure for developers who want to embed memory into their own apps. That's a platform play, not a personal context layer. Supermemory markets itself as "one memory across all your AI tools" but it leans more toward a personal bookmarking app than something that maps to a Cursor and Claude Code daily workflow.

I'm building in this category so I've spent a lot of time evaluating both. But I want to hear from someone who's actually used either for a few weeks of real work. Does context carry between ChatGPT and Cursor the way you'd expect? Does it handle coding sessions or is it more general purpose? What broke?

Discussion Skysight and Privacy Implications

I am not sure if this has been documented by anyone else as of late, but in looking through my hidden ~/.codex under memories a saw an interesting folder called "skysight". I do have ComputerUse enabled, and from the files included there, if the GPT app is open it follows and records everything you do. It will, in detail, state your actions "User went to Safari and went to..." in 10 minute increments. It is supposed to provide additional context on "I need help on the doc I just had open..." requests. However, when I asked GPT about it (although id already read the instructions.md which stated how to talk to a user if asked about Skysight) the most troubling thing is that this information does not always stay local. It is sent to the OpenAi servers even if you toggle off use my chats for "making models better" turned off. GPT stated even with that toggle off it can't be sure. Now for the most part, I don't provide super personal information to GPT, I have used the "hey I have autism please provide better output" trick (or maybe I am an autist) and when I asked GPT to summarize the most private memories it has of me this was one of them. Just FYI, when you have the app open its logging everything you do.

Discussion Am I the only one ChatGPT has been like this for lately?

Upvotes

ChatGPT has gotten really dumb over the past few days and keeps forgetting a lot of things.

To the point where even in the same conversation, if I ask it for a recipe without milk because I don’t have any, it gives me a recipe without milk. Then I send another message asking about something in the recipe, and after that I ask it to give me the steps for the recipe, and suddenly it gives me the recipe with milk, even though I already told it I don’t have milk.

It also doesn’t understand what I’m asking like it used to. I have to explain things several times, and sometimes it still doesn’t understand. There are other issues too.

Question Suspicious activity detected

Upvotes

I got this “Suspicious activity detected” warning last night and it’s still there.

I already changed my password, but nothing has changed yet. I’ve seen people saying that you sometimes just have to wait 24 hours, but I have no idea if that’s actually true.

Has anyone had this recently? Did it go away by itself, and how long did it take?

News EU designates ChatGPT a Very Large Search Engine under DSA

The European Commission has designated ChatGPT a Very Large Online Search Engine under the Digital Services Act, making OpenAI's chatbot the first standalone AI service brought under the bloc's toughest platform rules. Reddit and Roblox were added the same day as Very Large Online Platforms, [Euronews reported](https://www.euronews.com/next/2026/08/31/eu-places-chatgpt-reddit-and-roblox-under-strictest-digital-safety-rules).

All three crossed the 45 million monthly EU user threshold that triggers direct Commission oversight. ChatGPT reported 159 million monthly active users over the six-month period ending March 2026; Reddit reported 57.2 million; Roblox roughly 48 million.

The Commission classified ChatGPT as a "hybrid service" that qualifies as an online search engine "because it can engage with and respond to users' prompts and queries, including by searching the web." The three companies have four months, until the end of November, to conduct annual systemic risk assessments covering illegal content, minor protection, mental and physical wellbeing, fundamental rights, electoral processes and public security, submit to independent audits, and share data with regulators and vetted researchers.

"These new designations mean that ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox will now be subject to a higher level of scrutiny and accountability in the European Union, commensurate with their significant impact on our citizens and society," said Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy.

Non-compliance can cost up to 6% of global annual turnover. The DSA has produced roughly €870 million in fines to date, including €550 million against AliExpress, €200 million against Temu and €120 million against X.

Discussion Workshop on Sep 12: shipping LLM systems that actually survive production

There's a hands-on masterclass on Sep 12 for anyone building with the OpenAI API who wants real engineering discipline instead of shipping on vibes.

Covers:

  • Versioned prompts with regression tests, so an edit can't silently degrade quality
  • A real eval harness combining deterministic checks and LLM-as-judge
  • Bootstrap confidence intervals and paired significance testing for model comparisons
  • Evaluated RAG with retrieval metrics (recall@k, MRR)
  • Agents with guardrails and fallbacks that fail gracefully instead of compounding errors
  • Full production observability, tracing, cost/latency monitoring, and a CI regression suite

Led by Bruno Gonçalves, PhD, founder of Data For Science, who trains engineers at Fortune 500 companies on this exact stack.

Question OpenAI keeps rejecting my Mastercard that works on every other site with no issues.

My saved Mastercard was declined more than five times.

My bank confirms that it received no authorization request from OpenAI. The card works normally with Google, Kling, Spotify, and other local and international merchants, but not with OpenAI.

The error handling on the payment page is poor: it provides no useful information about why the card was declined. I contacted support to ask why this keeps happening, but I haven't received an answer yet.

The AI chat support has also been unable to understand the problem. It keeps suggesting that I:

  • turn off my VPN (I don't use one),
  • use another card (I don't have another one for using online), or
  • enter the card details carefully.

None of these suggestions are relevant. My card is already saved, and the payment form auto-fills the necessary information correctly. I use the same card successfully with both local and international merchants.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, especially if my bank isn't even receiving an authorization request from OpenAI?

Question CSV files cannot be analyzed 01.09.2026

I use ChatGPT to analyzed some information in csv files.
It was working great until today.

Now it says that attachments upload successfully and appear in the conversation, but the corresponding sandbox files are missing when reading them.
I tried with files that worked before, but still get the same issue.

Is anyone else facing this problem?
