Question I just figured out SCE pays you pennies for your extra solar.

Ever since I have had solar I always carried a credit into the next year, so I have not had a bill for about 3 years now. This year I finally got a bill which was about $1000 on my true-up. This was my own mistake because I mistakenly rescheduled my pool pump to run on my plans most expensive window. So thats sort of what triggered me to look into my credits and exactly how they work.

So after some digging I figured out my panels sent SCE 3,382 kWh more than my house used that year. Leftover solar doesn't get the rate you see during the year, it gets SCE's net surplus rate at $0.01636 a kWh. So a full year of overproduction paid $55.33. As ordinary credit against my own usage, that same energy would've been worth about $1,046. Thats insane! And would have paid for my pool pump mistake btw.

So essentially SCE sells my neighbor my extra solar for 30 something cents. They paid me a penny and a half for it.

Am I the last one to know this lol!

Traffic/Cars Gas Prices After 5~ Months

Hey all, I posted in March showing how Costco gas prices have changed in a few weeks at the time. Since then I've always seen random posts here and there with people continuing to talk about gas prices. Figured after months of continuously tracking, people might be interested in seeing how prices have changed.

The Costco gas locations are for places that were only relevant to me or close friends hence why it might feel random... but they are for Irvine, Yorba Linda, Corona, and Culver City. I used Costco as a reference due to them usually being the lowest in prices and the ease of getting the info.

Most expensive day per location:

  • Corona, CA — May 5, 2026 — $5.749
  • Culver City, CA — May 5, 2026 — $6.099
  • Irvine, CA — May 5, 2026 — $6.059
  • Yorba Linda, CA — May 2, 2026 — $6.159

Biggest single-day price drop per location:

  • Corona, CA — April 13, 2026 — dropped $0.20 (to $5.199)
  • Culver City, CA — June 15, 2026 — dropped $0.20 (to $5.199)
  • Irvine, CA — August 14, 2026 — dropped $0.20 (to $5.199)
  • Yorba Linda, CA — August 10, 2026 — dropped $0.30 (to $5.199)

Interestingly enough I have also found that prices frequently can change even twice in the same day usually being the early morning and second time in the early afternoon.

For the nerds: I have tracked it using an hourly script in a docker container that writes to a db. Costco has a web page per warehouse location giving their respective info including gas prices. You just need to figure out the warehouse numbers pertaining to the locations you want for the script.

Vintage OC Where do you buy physical media in OC? Looking for a spot like "The Cave" in Sacramento

Upvotes

Recently moved down here from NorCal. Up there we had a store called The Cave (Arden Way in Sac, also a Folsom location) — big cluttered collectibles shop with used movies, records, games, toys, all of it. You could walk in with no plan and walk out with an armload of Blu-rays you didn't know you wanted.

That's what I'm looking for down here. Specifically hunting 4K Blu-rays and TV box sets. I know I could just order everything off eBay but that's not as fun to me. — I want to browse, get hyped on something, and watch it that night.

Best Buy's disc section is basically dead and Target's is a joke. Where are you all going? Used shops, swap meets, hole-in-the-wall spots, whatever. Anywhere in OC preferred but I'll drive.

Thanks.

This is how my second round came out. They were nice enough to pre-chew them I guess. They ended up making the check right so I was conflicted about posting this but the terrible state of these things, plus the abhorrent service, I felt needed to be shared. Very frustrating experience and very different than the last time we visited.

Housing/Moving San Clemente condo owners stunned by sudden $26,000 HOA fee for emergency roof assessment

Thumbnail

ABC7 covered a dispute at the Villa Moura condo complex in San Clemente, where homeowners say they were hit with an emergency HOA assessment of more than $26,000 per unit for roof replacements. Residents say the cost is creating a serious financial burden, especially for retirees and fixed-income owners, with one 81-year-old resident saying she may have to move because she cannot afford it.

Several homeowners are questioning whether the assessment was properly imposed as an “emergency.” They argue the roof work is deferred maintenance rather than a true emergency, and that members should have been allowed to vote on how to handle the project. Residents also say the board has known for years that roof work would eventually be needed, and some are pushing for multiple competitive bids instead of moving forward under the current plan.

According to the article, owners were given three payment options: pay the full $26,000+ assessment, split it into two payments, or add more than $2,000 per month for six months and then $400 per month after that. Residents say they have been warned that liens could be placed on properties if they do not pay. An HOA attorney quoted by ABC7 said homeowners generally still have to pay assessments while challenging them, even if they believe the assessment was improperly imposed. The HOA board declined to comment because of ongoing legal matters, and residents are pursuing a recall effort, legal claims, and a GoFundMe to help owners who cannot afford the assessment.

Recommendations Needed looking for classical piano teacher in OC

hi! anyone here a piano instructor or know of any? I'm a 28 yo with a background is in singing & songwriting, as a self-taught piano player. I took a few music theory and piano classes in college (after already knowing some basics from self-teaching) but that's as far as I ever got classically and it's been about a decade. I have always dreamed of really learning how to read sheet music, understand theory and play classical piano, and after taking a break from music endeavors, I'd love to find an in-person teacher. appreciate your help!!

Question Santiago Peak

Posted this as a comment elsewhere, but wanted to start my own thread to get a few more responses.

I have a small bike (Honda Trail 125) that I want to haul out to the Maple Springs trailhead at the end of Silverado Canyon Rd, then ride up to the peak.

For anyone with recent experience out there: is this doable, or am I asking for trouble? I take things pretty slow and risk-averse, so I won't be ripping through it, just taking my time.

Thanks!

P.S. If you have other suggestions (dirt or not) for where to take my hog, feel free to share!

News Daisy Chain Fields ‘in discussions’ to return next year, say Irvine officials

After announcing Daisy Chain Fields raised $20 million for nonprofits, Olivia Rodrigo, creator of the female-led music festival, concluded her headline performance by saying "See you next year," to the sea of thousands of fans.

It was a reminder that the inaugural year would not be the festival's last.  The city of Irvine hopes to be the continuing home of Daisy Chain Fields.

Irvine city officials said Monday that the likelihood is “pretty high” for a round two in 2027 at the Great Park after the seeming success of the one-day festival that sold 45,000 tickets within just minutes of the pre-sale going live.

“We’ve offered them several dates to consider,” said Melissa Haley, Irvine’s director of communications and engagement.

Medical/Healthcare Skilled Nursing Facility Asking For SSN

So basically my dad has been at the rehabilitation/skilled nursing facility for about 3 weeks now (he is still currently there) and all of a sudden my mom got a phone call from them asking for my dad's social security number, the lady there told my mom that it wasn't on his paperwork so my mom asked "didn't the hospital give it to you when he was ransferred?" And the reply was no. Should we give them the SSN? My mom told the lady that she is at work and didn't have my dad's social security number information with her. The lady said she will bring her work laptop home so my mom can call her personal cellphone later tonight to give her the number and she can input it into he computer directly or go to the facility tomorrow, my mom said she can't because of her work start time. We were there earlier today, too, to visit my dad and no one nad asked us about this while we were there.

Recommendations Needed solar energy / panels / batteries expert in OC?

This interesting thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1w4f247/i_just_figured_out_sce_pays_you_pennies_for_your/) here in r/orangecounty got me thinking that I need to get my solar energy situation sorted out.

Can anyone recommend a company that does solar + battery solutions and can also help with getting a guest house / ADU separately metered? Ideally, I'm looking for someone capable of designing and installing free-standing solar panels (not roof-attached).

Thank you!

Where do your kids go to Taekwondo and how much does it cost per week or month (and what city and how many times a week)?
Frustrated at the lack of price transparency on the websites. My kid really likes Taekwondo. Trying to figure out a good place / price compromise.
