Bilateral vs single weapons

I am a bit confused about this and couldn't find an answer by searching around. Is there any disadvantage to putting a weapon in the middle, single weapon slot? Are the bilateral slots that create two copies of the weapon simply double the damage for no extra cost, ignoring inaccurate shots? What's the consensus on this choice?

Also, one quick way of getting very strong is the DNA upgrade that increases your damage by 200%, minus 50% for each gun. In this case, you want to have only one gun (150%dmg increase), or 2 maximum for a 100% damage increase.

I might try that if I get an internal structure and connections that supports the weapons well. Could always slot in extra flagellum in forward facing external slots in that case, making retreats and overall mobility better.

Have you tried Amoeba or Nanobot yet? Nanobot specially is completelly OP and will carry you anywhere in this game, with it's modular scheme and getting any upgrade that sacrifices life for free, opening every possible vein at bosses, etc

Haven't managed to beat the stomach boss so haven't unlocked amoeba, don't have nanobot yet either. Only had 2-3 runs so far and fell in love with how deceptively deep and impactful the internal and external organelle positioning choices are and how difficult the game seems to get. I overlooked the stamina containers in my decent run and was running out of stamina so fast with how many weapons I had out. I was using the boomerang shaped evolution of the starting organism.

Watched a video or two of amoeba though and I get why you mentioned it. Being able to construct the organism you want seems pretty powerful.

Alswo, one good tip is that if you have twin external nodes like those you are mentioning, if you can upgrade them to omni slots, they will accept internal organelles as well, AND will MIRROR the internal organelle the same way they would do with a weapon. Great power spike as well

I am unclear on how those nodes work. Do I get to slot internal organelles on the external nodes and they affect the connected nodes as well as the external node that they are on?

Oh, don't worry, you'll figure it out with experimentation. But yeah, omni slots allow you to slot internal org into external slots and external slots into internal slots ( this last one is not very useful ). It is mostly used when you have twin external nodes so you can double an infuser making the twin external slot omni and alloting an internal organelle on it. They will act just like an internal organelle, affecting connected nodes. But it's only worth ( for now) to use them on twin (mirrored, bilateral) external slots. Some niche cases later on not required ( on nanobot, for instance, it doens't have bilateralism)

No idea, however I prefer 'builds' which enable two forward facing primaries. Just because of how I find it when controlling it, but maxed out internal organelle space to build up 'passive damage'.

Double damage but double stamina use.
Internal organelles in external omni slots are also doubled which is very useful.

Absurdly so. One of my first wins was 4 (2, doubled) lasers that charged up by itself and basically melted everything.

They also don't count as weapons and get a 200% dmg increase from that mutation.
