I just got this as a gift

It turns on strangely powering up for a couple seconds then turning off and back on but I can’t get a display I tried the hdmi/display port and it’s not a vga i think, any help is appreciated.

there is a code on the bottom of the motherboard, its probably an error. Try to identify the motherboard and then download the manual to check for that error.

Gtx 970 is all I really know, has an asus motherbored 480gb and 2 sticks of ram

You need to isolate parts and troubleshooting really, it can be anything broken causing a reboot

It sounds like it’s overheating. Look at that heatsink for the CPU. Your CPU is most likely the issue, but it could also be the socket for the CPU. You need to remove the heatsink and inspect what’s going on under there. Do you see the error code on the bottom of the motherboard?

Plug the EATX cable into the other slot top left, they can both be used but the one closest to the socket is usually the primary one and must be occupied.

This system is pretty old, replace the CMOS battery because its probably done for.

You need the CMOS battery for your bios settings

Sometimes just removing than reinstalling an item will alleviate a problem . Works similarly with remote controls and computer RAM.

That GPU is a beast of a gtx970. That was my first GPU in 2014 and it is still doing great it in a backup rig. 60fps 1080p was the ticket for years. Just replaced it last year.

Remove CMOS battery for 10 minutes and insert
Try using one stick of RAM (switch between sticks and slots to see if anything changes)
Reseat the graphics card
Flash the BIOS

I’d order thermal paste and repaste it. You can fix that cockeyed CPU cooler at the same time.

Try reseating the RAM.
