Tech Support Persistent VGA Light on Motherboard

Hello everyone this is my first time building a personal computer from scratch. When I turn on my PC, the fans work but the motherboard keeps flashing this orange light from VGA, and my monitor has no display.

I have done all of the usual things, such as resetting CMOS, reseating my GPU, reseating my RAM, but nothing seems to work.

My specs:

CPU - Intel Core Ultra 5 250K plus

GPU - NVIDIA GTX 1660 TI

RAM - G.SKILL 32GB (2X16) DDR5

SSD - KingSpec 1TB 2.5 SSD SATA III

Motherboard - Gigabyte B860 DS3H WIFI63 1851

PSU - Apevia ATX-SP700 700W ATX Power Supply (non-modular)

If there are any more things you need from me to solve this problem, I'll give them to you

Tech Support Pc not booting after new cpu

I recently got a 5800x3d to replace my 5600x. I made sure the bios was updated to latest version of my msi b550 a pro, no issues there. When I installed my 5800, it all seemed smooth, went into the socket perfectly and when I went to boot, there was no post though all the fans were spinning. I tried to swap out back to my 5600x and still no boot. I think either the cpu fried my motherboard or the other way around, and I’m trying to figure out what happened. Here are some pics: the burnt looking cpu is the 5800x3d, the other is my 5600x, and then the motherboard cpu socket. I already returned the 5800x3d, but I’m trying to figure out what happened, if there’s something I did wrong.

Edit: already tried clearing cmos, reseating ram, making sure power cables were secure, booting on hdmi instead of dp before the return.

I currently have an XPG Gammix D30 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (AX4U32008G16A-SR30) and I’m planning to add an XPG D35 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (AX4U32008G16A-SBKD35).

Both are:
8GB
DDR4
3200MHz
CL16
1.35V

Would these work together properly in dual channel?

Is there anything I should be concerned about regarding compatibility or stability?

Thanks in advance btw!!

Tech Support Pc keeps freezing and restarting

So I’ve had my pc for a while now since 2019/2020 can’t remember exact year but this year March my cooler failed and I had to install a new cooler. My pc is also from pc specialist so I ordered a new one from them, after installing the new cooler my pc had been randomly freezing and restarting ever since then, I could be watching a movie and it’ll freeze or be idle and it will freeze. Ive done a couple of troubleshooting things like getting a new ssd, updating my bios (2025) f19 version, installing new chipsets, installing drivers again, stress test and a couple more. This never used to happen and only started I got the new cooler but also not to mention when they (pc specialist) went through my pc and check the logs/wvent viewer there were may problems that lead to numerous problems, they said the next step would be to try a more recent bios update and if that don’t work I’d have to return it for repairing which I can’t really do right now. I’m looking for all help I can get especially since I work from home

Tech Support Broken PC

I woke up the other day to find water had spilled all over my pc, I turned it on a few times and it kept turning off. Until eventually it finally came on, I logged in and made it to the home screen until it froze and turned off. I’ve tried taking out all of the parts to let them dry for around 24h and put all the parts back in carefully and same result, just turns on and off. I really would appreciate some recommendations thanks.

Build Question ryzen 5 9600x + 5090?

quick PC build question - I currently have a ryzen 5 9600x paired with a 9060xt 16gb - I have stumbled onto a Facebook marketplace listing for a used 5090 at $2,500. I am very interested in buying this 5090 and am wondering how the pair would work - also, am I being scammed? a 5090 for this much feels ridiculous... should I jump on it regardless? thanks.

Build Question SSD Advice

Thumbnail

Hey so I’m starting to buy parts for my PC and I realized that I had a SSD in my PS5 and I figured if I could save a couple hundred bucks on the SSD that’d would be nice.

So I’m wondering if the heatsink on this SSD will cause any issues with this motherboard? Can I just not screw back in that M.2 plate and just leave the SSD showing? Or will that cause any issues?

Thanks for the help!

— Glad I bought that SSD when I did because the price of it now is ridiculous lol —

Tech Support I switched out my SSD with a new one that wasn't formatted and now I'm stuck on black screens

I've switched out my old 512gb SSD with a 1tb SSD that was on a more modern system, and at first when I booted it showed only blackscreens before booting into windows, but when I tried booting into safe mode it just loaded forever, idk how should I format it? Oh and also I switched back to my old SSD but I can't get into bios either and it doesn't show me the logo while booting in

Build Question First PC build — need feedback on parts, value and upgrade choices

This will be my first desktop PC, and I would appreciate feedback before purchasing everything. I have researched the parts, but I’m still learning about PC hardware.

What I’ll use it for:

  • Computer science coursework and programming
  • IT, networking and cybersecurity labs
  • Running multiple virtual machines, including Windows Server, Windows 11 clients and Linux
  • Active Directory, Wireshark, Splunk and similar tools
  • General schoolwork with two monitors
  • Occasional gaming (only when I play Overwatch or Apex with my PC friends)
  • I currently game primarily on PS5, so I don’t necessarily need the absolute best gaming hardware sicne I will still do majority of gaming there
  • I would like the computer to remain useful for many years without unnecessary upgrades

Current build and prices:

  • CPU/motherboard/RAM bundle — $700
    • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
    • Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2
    • G.Skill Flare X5 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 CL36
  • CPU cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB — $59.99
  • GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5060 Ti Windforce OC 8GB — $379.99
  • SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe — $389.99
  • Case: Lian Li Lancool 207 Digital — $129.99
  • Power supply: be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W, ATX 3.1, 80+ Gold — $149.99
  • Monitor: Acer Nitro XV270U Z1, 27-inch 1440p IPS 270Hz — $159.99 each
  • Operating system: Windows 11 Pro through my college — free

CPU and motherboard questions:

  1. Is the Ryzen 7 9700X a good choice for my combination of virtual machines, programming and gaming?
  2. For only $50 more, Micro Center also has a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, ASUS B650E Max Gaming WiFi and 32GB DDR5-6000 bundle. Would that be better overall?
  3. There is also a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, MSI B850 Gaming Pro WiFi and 32GB bundle for $900. Would I actually notice enough difference to justify that price?

GPU questions:

  1. Is the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB at $380 a sensible choice for 1440p gaming?
  2. Would 8GB of VRAM become a serious limitation within the next few years?
  3. Micro Center has an RX 9060 XT 16GB for approximately $490. Would its additional performance and VRAM be noticeable enough to justify another $110?
  4. Would the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB still provide a gaming experience comparable to or better than PS5?
  5. Is there a better-value GPU in this general price range?

Cooling and case questions:

  1. Are there any meaningful disadvantages to the bottom-mounted fans and unusual PSU layout in the Lancool 207?

Power-supply questions:

  1. Is the be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W a good and quiet PSU for this system?
  2. Is 850W already more than enough for either GPU?
  3. The 1000W version is only $30 more. Would purchasing it provide any real advantage?

Monitor questions:

I currently use a Sceptre C275B-FWT240, which is a 27-inch curved 1080p 240Hz VA monitor. Text does not look particularly sharp on it.

I’m considering two Acer Nitro XV270U Z1 monitors for $159.99 each. They are 27-inch, flat IPS, 2560×1440 and up to 270Hz over DisplayPort. They are only rated at approximately 250 nits and have basic HDR.

  1. Will 250 nits look dim in a normally lit bedroom if I increase the brightness?
  2. I understand that its HDR is not genuine high-quality HDR. Is that important at this price?
  3. Will text look significantly sharper than it does on my 27-inch 1080p Sceptre?
  4. Will the Acer support 1440p at 120Hz from a PS5 over HDMI?
  5. Is there any reason to spend $280 each on the LG 27GR83Q-B instead?
  6. Would two identical Acer monitors be better than mixing one gaming monitor with one office-oriented Dell monitor?

Overall questions:

  1. Is everything compatible?
  2. Are there any parts where I’m overspending without receiving a noticeable benefit?
  3. Are there any parts where I’m cutting costs too aggressively?
  4. How would this compare with an equivalently priced prebuilt?
  5. Is this enough for modern 1440p gaming and multiple IT/cybersecurity virtual machines?
  6. Should I expect to need any major upgrades within the next five years?
  7. If you were building this PC for my particular uses, what would you change?

Hi guys I have an MSI b550m mortar wifi motherboard. The thing is the main gpu pcie slot on the motherboard detects the gpu sometimes and sometimes not so i have to jiggle the gpu to get it connected to connectors or i have to remove and get it seated again. I did this a couple of times until it worked. Now i am getting low performance in every games fps are low around 15 fps or so. Checked on gpuz clocks are not above 210mhz memory clocks seems to be okay. Tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers and change the power plan settings to ultra, high. Set maximum performance in Nvidia control panel nothing helps. Tried all the options nothing helped. What would be the issue please suggest guys. Is the issue now on the hardware level? What could have gone wrong.

Build Question Upgrading a prebuilt

I bought this pre build in 2023, and its served me with an rx 580, 16 gbs of ddr4 1tb ssd and a 5500, but after briefly owning and selling a stronger, used pc i want to upgrade my own one. I was thinking of getting a 9060 xt, a new case and something else for the aesthetics, but im not sure how to go about the aesthetics part because right now its pretty ugly.

Tech Support Installed new 7900x3d and getting nonstop crashes

I upgraded from a 9600x to a 7900x3d and it was working great for hours, now it’s crashing nonstop with “system thread exception not handled”

The cpu was used,

The error I get is a super glitchy screen that i can barely read

Edit: Was in safe mode just now, crashed with stopcode “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (0x50)
What failed: ACPI.sys”

Just also got ACPI_BIOS_ERROR (0xA5)

Edit 2: seems like updating bios fixed it

Build Question Switching to team green, need some 2nd opinions..

Hi guys, I'm probably gonna get a bit of fire for this, but I'm considering switching my rx 7800xt into a 5060 ti 16 gb. Now I know that there is a little 10-15% performance drop but I don't think I'd mind since I'm not a fps monster anyway, and I love the 7800xt with alll my heart but the Nvidia dlss features are tempting, esp with the mfg stuff.. I don't rlly mind latency since I mostly play sp games anyway.. And another thing to note is that my 7800xt is refurbished, I actually had two but the first one grey screened on me.. And so I'm honestly scared of that happening since the 5 month period is also about to end and yeah I forgot but I'm also using my pc with 16gb of ddr5 and a 7500f.. Plz don't just hate, I'd appreciate some advice tysmm yall
