It's possible they mean AFTER. The sheer quantity of marvel content afterwards means even if I cared enough to follow it after the saga ended I wouldn't be able to
I had a feeling it was trying to imitate references in comics but at least the comics helped you get the reference by using these yellow text boxes "as seen in Spiderman Issue No. ___" but the movies don't even have these which I hate a lot.
At this point they should either have a 4th wall breaking hero catch us up on where x character has been/has been up to or just do a compilation video of said character before certain screenings.
Having a catch up real before the movie is actually a really good idea. If they put in a 10 minute explainer before the movie starts or have 1-2 minute character recaps between ads that could be pretty cool.
And they had an excellent opportunity to do that with how they set up She Hulk. In hindsight, perhaps that team knew it wasn’t being renewed and wrote a beautifully absurdly self aware, streaming service menu hopping finale as a middle finger send off, but I adored what they did and would have happily watched more.
If Kevin Feige could have spent five minutes to explain why e.g. Daredevil is not called up for the fight against Thanos then She Hulk would have been the perfect deliverer of a “hey, it’s a comic book movie, it’s not going to be logical”. I would have paid good money for She Hulk and Deadpool to sit in a diner and pick all of the Infinity Stones continuity apart over a coffee and muffin.
Maybe not the most conventional, but I think it'd be great if it was Deadpool. As a character that already regularly breaks the 4th wall, I think it'd be funny to have him recap events to the audience prior to the start of a new film/show. I suppose the key disagreement here would be that it makes the character seem omniscient. As a character within the same universe, he wouldn't always know all of the information the audience has seen from the other shows and movies. So...
Deadpool being omniscient in the context of breaking the 4th wall for a recap is very much in keeping with the established theme of how he breaks the 4th wall.
It's like he has omniscience, but it works only within that context, like a ridiculously over-specified superpower.
