It's kinda infuriating. They seem to constantly go something like "This is a progress show with women/poc as main cast, ergo if people don't like it they are basement dwelling incels. So why then bother with component writers"
"This show has a poc, female, trans, autistic character with 8 toes on one foot and it's gonna be awesome because of it!"
People criticise that this is clearly just pandering to the current buzzword heavy cultural zeitgeist, and you're being called bigoted for calling a spade a spade.
I’m kinda wondering here if - since a lot of people who make up their mind about someone’s beliefs can’t change them ever again in most cases - the “basement dwelling incels” dont instead decide they’ll ‘prove’ they’re actually super strong and rich and cool instead. So they keep the same hateful beliefs, but they hit the gym and try to make a ton of money then they can say’s how the loser now?’ That’s what people are like these days because too much of an opinion’s ‘accuracy’ is derived from who’s winning or liked the most.
Because they don't care for that.
A lot of those “basement dwelling incels", were just nerds who were happy with their hobbies being niche and theirs. Everyone who wanted to join could join.
That was our downfall, because we welcomed everyone, and eventually people who thought:
"This is cool, but would be better if it was mainstream and full of buzzwords" came in and started talking about that.
IP owners picked it up and now we have the slow decline of nerd hobbies and IP's being less fantastic and more current year appealing.
Yeah, I kind of hated the whole super contradictory attitude millennials often had in that regard: “everyone is welcome to have fun and take part!” would suddenly become “nope, listen to the scientists you dumb uneducated redneck fuck” when things had a consensus in some area of authority they liked.
It leads to this conundrum:
They’ll say someone isn’t necessarily guilty because of unfairness towards people in court,
But then they’ll say someone being found innocent doesn’t necessarily mean they are because of unfairness in court,
Which means neither a guilty verdict nor a non-guilty verdict can technically clear somebody’s name.
A decade ago the fandom was mostly united.
The Grim darkness was silly and awesome.
Characters were tragic or funny or insane or creepy.
Matt Ward was a blight on the setting with his Ultramarine glazing.
But we wanted more people in the hobby.
Then GW started going mainstream.
And we suddenly got shit like Femstodes, Wraithbone turning from a mystical substance to some mundane alloy, the Primarchs being scattered around the galaxy because their mother was a Karen.
The old guard hate these changes. And are calle woman hating incels for saying that.
Basically their bio-mom, Erda, got her ovaries in a twist because their sons will be warlords and she turned off the null fields around the Primarch Lab, hence the Great Four grabbed the pods and yeeted them over the galaxy.
I got into Warhammer fairly recently and I’m trying to figure out what necessarily makes these things bad. Are they really that out of step with what came before, considering we had stuff like Horus falling to chaos due to daddy issues?
The Femstodes - the language used to describe the Custodian Guard, sparce it might have been, also described them as clearly male. Elite guards, most of which remember the Crusade. The Femstodes beyond being female, were justified by the fact the Custodes have as much of a turn over as any other faction and need a constant supply of new recruits from the Terran Nobility. Finały they said they looked exactly the same as their małe counterparts, but recently they released new minis with boob armour, making the whole thing a sham.
The Wraithbone - the Wraithbone was described as solidified Warp stuff, specific to the Eldar who at one point mastered Warcraft. Now they took away all the mystticism from it by making it a specific type of mundane alloy.
Erda - This is something no one really asked for on terms of lore. And it's just bad writing because as I described it, the Primarch's mom had a Karen moment and decided to suddenly have a problem with the Emperor's plan even though she knew the guy for about as long as humanity existed.
Edit: Also people were pissed off about the gaslighting "There were always female Custodes.".
No, they weren't GW just decided to hamfist retcon then in for... Fuck if I know.
but recently they released new minis with boob armour, making the whole thing a sham
Seems like they’re just appealing to perverts with that one, but I don’t think it makes them a sham in and of itself, unless female custodes only wear boob armor now.
Now they took away all the mystticism from it by making it a specific type of mundane alloy.
If it’s still connected to the warp and just demystified because it’s now better understood, then that doesn’t seem too bad.
And it's just bad writing because as I described it, the Primarch's mom had a Karen moment and decided to suddenly have a problem with the Emperor's plan even though she knew the guy for about as long as humanity existed.
I don’t think last-minute considerations = bad writing. Peter was one of Jesus’ most devout disciples and even he briefly abandoned him near the end.

Completely agree.
Disney has a bad habit of yelling, "You're a bigot if you don't like our show!" when their shows/films fail. Blaming the audience for a film/show's failure is one of the dumbest takes I have ever seen, and yet, Disney --and Hollywood in general-- does exactly that...and frankly, we're getting sick of that.
The problem is that the type of person that makes 'X show, but make them <protected>' never loves the source material, they're checking a box making something soulless. So every time this happens, it gives ammo to actual bigots and galvenizes them further.
The problem starts when negative reviews pour in before the shows even air.
Also, “The Successors” is a massive mischaracterization for most. She Hulk is in no way replacing Hulk, it’s a spin off character with a completely different direction. Ironheart was never meant to replace Ironman in the Avengers. The one exception is the new Captain America; he is absolutely meant to replace Steve Rogers
Also, these were all put out as series vs 2 hour movies, with lower budgets for 4x more airtime.
Honestly I think it's more insidious than that. It's counter-intuitive, but IMO the ghoulish entities financing and producing these films and shows are often consciously or unconsciously prejudiced against non-male non-white characters. They don't have the reverence for IPs that feature them like they do with their white male counterparts. That's why the skimp out on hiring good writers: they are utterly indifferent to and maybe even annoyed by the actual life stories and struggles of women and POC, so they just want to get the production over with ASAP.
we really gotta stop using the term superhero fatigue, people still show up for superhero movies, I know Spiderman is lowkey cheating but BND is the 4th highest grossing film in the world and had a stronger domestic opening than Endgame for gods sake.
People are fine with superheroes
but there are too many weird decisions happening within the genre that turn people away. so many of these projects are doomed to fail just based on budget alone.

Bad writing
