To be fair, pretty much this in the comics as well.
I remember a comic segment where the teacher validated the girl's dreams "You can be anything" but she looked dissatisfied because she was fishing for a 'no' as an answer so that she could argue with the tacher.
Finally the teacher relented and said "Fine, you'll never be Iron Man." And then she pretty much went down that line out of sheer pettiness.
Didn't she say "You'll never be Tony Stark." specifically? Everyone knew Tony Stark was Iron Man at that point, so aside from something like identity theft becoming a new Iron Man was the only way she could "become" Tony Stark.
