Sometimes it's a problem where a character will be a minority/woman/etc and the show will have genuine problems... but people will assume all of the criticism comes from racists/sexists.
Then you just argue in circles about whether it's genuinely bad or if people just hate women/BIPOC/LGBT, etc.
Recently I saw a post where a woman influencer was criticised for her actions and many people claimed that a male influencer wouldn't face the same criticism.
It's stupid because I've seen so many people talking about how the culture war is a smokescreen for the class war and yet people eat it up.
No gender war for me, thanks. Only class war, please.

Sort of "Are you a bot or just influenced by them?" responses.
Unfortunately, the studio execs are going to see this flopping and think "we can't have diverse leads," instead of "our whole release plan and the way we're creating our interconnection universe is flawed."

In fairness, that often *is* the genuine problem. Often the producers have made the character a minority/woman and think of that as new and groundbreaking, so the hard part is done. The show is already breaking new ground, so you don't need to get particularly creative with the actual writing. Or maybe it's the other way around. They know they are out of good ideas, so they swap up the character's race and/or gender as a way of trying to be interesting, a version of the glass cliff concept you get in politics.
It doesn't help that every culture war commentator will jump on criticising them with the most enthusiasm and will enfuse their commentary with the opinions that it is kind of because of them being women / minorities.
They tried to the same thing with Odyssey, the difference was the movie was too good for the narrative to take off, so they just move onto the next slop topic
I just dislike the hypocrisy. Fuck them. You were being consistent and in fact man and woman in this context are incorrect. Those are bound. Male and female are nouns but also adjectives.
I have been downvoted and criticized on Reddit for that. Some even saying that it never happened. Then when I link to the wiki article about it, they block me.
I personally have. Not literally crucified but apparently if you're not cool with extrajudicial killings of American civilians via drone bombing you're a literal Nazi.
It's why blue no matter who Dems emphasize the Obama tan suit thing. Gotta undermine all valid criticism I guess.
I think it's more like the answer to OOP's question is related to writing, but the person who originally made it likely had something different in mind.

Don't get me wrong, the class war is the biggest issue. But seeing racism among the 99% and calling it class warfare can allow the racism to fester. They definitely coincide, but we need to correctly identify the issue in order to solve it.
I think the bigger problem is that people who are racist will then blame the show and use the said genuine explanations to cover up they fact they don't like women and minorities staring in shows. This in turn overshadows the original genuine problems and/or gets it involved in the "woke garbage" tsunami that inevitably comes with anything that doesn't have a complete white cast.
She-Hulk was a great series people absolutely hated on for calling out incel behavior. Did it have some minor valid criticism? Sure, but it was a well written, funny show that was super accurate to the comics vibes and people freaked tf out over a solid 7-8/10 show.
