I read it when it came out (2008) and must be misremembering. I have a distinct (likely false) memory of something traveling from orbit to the ground. Could be around the same time I first read about kinetic bombs.
There's some cool stuff in there based on old ideas from the Cold War involving bombs and there might have been a slab of metal accelerated into a super-fast projectile but I don't remember exactly. It's still a fun book, though, and I enjoyed it.
