Meme needing explanation I’m genuinely mystified

She’s an insane hippy that does insane hippy stuff on social media for attention.
The joke is, imagine if it was all actually real and she alerted aliens to our location so they vaporized us with their advanced weapons.

I would like to correct that a bit.
She is an OF-“model”, that make wannabe-hippie thirst-trap videos, to make people interested in buying pictures of her dirty bumhole.

Only people that paid to see the dirty butthole know if it is in fact a dirty butthole.

Eh, maybe. Hippies arent really a thing these days, and you dont really see em a lot cause the ones that are serious about it typically eschew technology and social media. Most of em have permaculture or earthship properties and stick to themselves these days. The "Influencer" types are in it for money and attention.

That sounds insane, I should get round to reading Three Body Problem from the sounds of it.
11
u/Gravitational_Torque 17h ago
There's lots of cool things. Like assassinating leaders of an industry because its goals don't align with the best hope of humanity; and doing it in space, with bullets made out of meteorite, so it looks like an accident.
Three body problem is the best science fiction I've ever read. But for people who are accustomed to western literature, it will be jarring at first. There are a lot of characters, and none of them are really 'main characters" nor are they heroes (or villains) in a traditional sense.
It's more like an epic, than a novel series. Think it has 2/3rds the word count of the bible, between all three books.

To elaborate on those advanced weapons, rods from heaven is considered the end game of interplanetary attacks. Basically all the dog fight style Sci fi stuff we see on tv is bs. Just like modern arial combat, who ever can eliminate the target from furthest away is the winner. Because we can do tricks with gravity, you really just need a heavy object moving fast enough to obliterate a planet from solar systems away. Oop is alluding to this style of interplanetary weapons system. Just a heavy rod of metal accelerated to near light speed.

1
u/londonbrewer77 1h ago
Thing is, it probably would be.
A dense object accelerated up to 99.99% of c is going to have an insane amount of energy when it hits, and if it’s travelling that fast you have no chance of seeing it coming, because by the time the light from it reaches you it’s almost here.

I kinda know this one. So first you have the crazy women that was really into drugs and now talks about pyramids and aliens and stuff and astral projecting. Then you ahve the concept of the "dark forest" which is basically the answer to the Fermi Paradox, being that if you make contact with an alien lifeform they are gonna strike frist and ask question later nad the only reason you are living now is no one found you yet. The guy is saying she might notify aliens of where we are and we get a near light speed piece of metal ripping the world in half.
I'm Brian or something.
Woof.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect the average person to know that "Wookie" (or "Wook") is slang for a specific subset of people who are generally dirty and treat psychedelic use like a core part of their personality. They also tend to have annoying/shitty taste in music too.
Someone who has not yet experienced the 'joys' of being exposed to the Wook culture would probably think of Chewbacca or other natives from the planet Kashyyyk.

It takes surprisingly little, in terms of sci-fi, to destroy a planet.
If a civilization can send ships flying at light speed or at nearly light speed, it is fair to assume they can also send projectiles at such speeds.
A very small projectile traveling at such high speeds would be enough to destroy our planet. I believe a baseball sized one would suffice
1
u/DogsAreMyFavPeople 15h ago
As an object gets arbitrarily close to c, its kinetic energy approaches infinity. The gravitational binding energy of earth is about 2.5 x 10^32 joules, which is finite. So you could actually do it with any size of object that’s traveling sufficiently close to c.
1
u/TimeKepeer 14h ago
Thus, Holeo manuever wouldn't work, but only because if it was attempted it would release such an immense amount of energy multiple systems would be destroyed
8
u/MsnthrpcNthrpd 20h ago
There's a popular theory going around Popsci, the Dark Forest Theory. A few books, tv shows, etc.
In a dark forest, prey animals have learned to stay quiet to avoid predators. According to this theory, planetary civilizations need to stay quiet to avoid other, more highly advanced and aggressive civilizations, or be wiped out.
The hippie chick accidentally the whole planet trying to open her third eye for some alien small talk.
15
u/Sad_Highlight_9059 19h ago
You misunderstand the Dark Forest slightly. It isn't just "prey animals" that stay silent. Everyone tries not to be noticed because you never know if what might notice you can obliterate you or not. So even when you are the predator, you try to be invisible, because in the forest even the predators are prey. Anything that cannot be preyed on has left the forest for a different reality, usually one existing at a higher number of dimensions. The only way to survive is to stay invisible and kill anything you see before it sees you, ideally in a way that you stay invisible.

I think it has something to do with that manhole cover we exploded into space once. There's a manhole cover currently flying away from us at insane speeds so thats what they would crash into and get ripped apart by after she let them know where we are
2
u/ComplexHighway3370 18h ago
Is a reference to a science fiction theory "The dark Forest" and the trilogy of books called "The three bodies problem" "the dark forest" and "the end of death". Its explained that advance civilization attacks everything that could be inteligent enough to send a message on the posibility that they can attack them first. So every space civilization is in a dept silence or is extinct. Like a dark forest. The method that they used to eliminate those that are foolish enough to send message or awnser them is like the meme say, tungsten bars sended at near light speed velocities to destroy the planet that sended the signals.

Just to add: the tungsten slab part is referencing a proposed weapon which is just tungsten rods, called Rods from God. A massive telephone-pole sized tungsten rod dropped from orbit would land on the surface of the planet with such force that it would release tens of tons of TNT equivalent of kinetic energy causing massive destruction. An alien civilization might launch an even larger slab of tungsten to wipe us out.

Another one who won’t heed the warning because, since time immemorial, red flags are sexy. Remember this moment when you’re in a cuddle puddle at a transformational festival camp at 2 AM high on acid and Molly with a bunch of other similar looking girls and you reach over and cuddle a shoulder thinking it’s her when you realize it’s some other sparkle pony girl rolling dick and squeezing your arm while you’re confusedly asking around where your girl is and you find out from her friend that she decided to run off to some renegade set on the other side of camp and maybe she’ll catch you later. But you never see her again and you wonder what ever happened to her, if the two weeks you spent together, running around from party to party after she asked you randomly in the crowd if you have pills and if you want to make out, even mattered until one day you can’t even remember her name or if it even really happened.

Brian here. I know this one because I read a lot.
He’s referring to Dark Forrest theory popularized by The Three Body Problem. In dark forest theory, an intelligent alien civilization will stay hidden and not seek communication with others which are guaranteed to exist. Because others will exist they also may have technology much much more advanced than you. Because from their point of view you could be more advanced than them, or become more advanced, you are a threat. Thus any intelligent civilization with the means to do so will immediately seek to destroy another civilization that’s displayed the means to communicate and may well be on the path to destroy you.
The joke is that this hippie girl’s “astral projection” bullshit actually works, which it doesn’t by the way, and contacts an alien civilization ensuring our destruction.
I highly recommend the Three Body Problem. Gonna go find someone’s leg to hump. Brian out.

This is in reference a book series 3 body problem, Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy if you want to be to be a jerk about it.
Quickly, in the book a person communicates a location of a planet with life on it to the broad universe. That planets sun was struck by a small very solid object going very fast destroying the sun and all life in that solar system.
We’ll see how much of this is in the future seasons of the Netflix show. Book series was great if you like sci-fi stores that cover large spans of time, like Asimov did so well.
Nerd from the show, the one with pimples who hits on Meg

u/twilighteclipse925 10h ago
It’s a reference to the dark forest theory.
Basically the galaxy is fully of life but everyone stays silent because there are larger predators (older malevolent civilizations) who will hunt anyone who announces themselves.
So this hippie chick took drugs and managed to project her consciousness to an alien species who she then told our location to and now there are weapons on their way to destroy us.
