I believe the dragons would have something to say about that.

And the Christians have, sadly, decided that killing dragons no longer is the Christian way. Saint George shakes his head.

u/karoshikun 7h ago

as someone named after him, I feel disappointed of such state of affairs...

u/Bulky_Algae6110 7h ago

Your name is Saint George?

Awesome.

38

u/karoshikun 7h ago

just George...

119

u/0019362 7h ago

Just George, the Just.

u/Relative-Relief-8816 7h ago

Short for Justin George.

Which is two first names.

But his middle name Side.

So his name is Justin Side George which is also where he finishes. Because his spouse took on his name, and is also George.

7

u/Remebond 6h ago

You didn't have to do that, but you did.

5

u/Inspired_Nuisance 6h ago

It was unfortunate that they named their son Buster "Bustin" Side George.

4

u/gridlockmain1 6h ago

His spouse’s name is Justin Side George too?

1

u/Shibyashi 5h ago

No, it’s Justine Side George.

1

u/CreepyClay 5h ago

And so did his pet monkey curious.

2

u/Ragnarok2kx 6h ago

His brother Ulric helped me when a devil bear took my wife

30

u/Nruggia 7h ago

Don't sell yourself short. Even Saint George was just George at some point.

2

u/MintyBeaver 6h ago

How about George St Pierre? He put the George first...

9

u/MizStazya 7h ago

Farmer George?

4

u/karoshikun 7h ago

that's what the name means!

3

u/Ari_On_The_Nette 7h ago

Venus has gone inside

2

u/Ness-Shot 2h ago

I actually understood this reference

2

u/GrinderMonkey 6h ago

Well, start killing dragons and we'll make you Saint George the Second.

2

u/EpilepticMushrooms 5h ago

Your middle name is now Saint.

Here's an imaginary sword.

Go get em!

1

u/Jail_Chris_Brown 6h ago

Somewhere Matt Mercer just shuddered.

1

u/wadeissupercool 7h ago

Any relation to spiders georg?

2

u/h_grytpype_thynne 6h ago

My understanding of Catholicism is that if you name your kid Saint [Something] they grow up to be pretty awesome. But then there's the, you know, martyrdom.

1

u/Euphoric-Skirt7649 5h ago

Yeah, but if you’re doing Catholicism right, being worthy of martyrdom is basically the goal.

2

u/absentminded0ne 5h ago

Just Saint

u/False_Snow7754 7h ago

Good thing I'm not a Christian. When do we raid, and who's the tank?

This meme is older than half of Reddit users. But it's always good to see it.

3

u/dr00pybrainz 7h ago

Least I got my chicken

1

u/WoodenHarddrive 5h ago

As a Christian, I think I can provide heals and still keep my vows. Group up by Dark Portal?

2

u/False_Snow7754 4h ago

You got it, I'll bring you extra mana potions!

1

u/WoodenHarddrive 1h ago

Hell yeah ITS A RAID NIGHT BABBAYYYY

1

u/Brave-Recommendation 5h ago

No tank, just two rogues and a healer paladin

1

u/thatthatguy 5h ago

Every Thursday until the job is done. Hard to find anyone with adequate gear to tank the dragon’s extraordinary rendition attack though.

7

u/THSprang 6h ago

Its always pertinent to remember that the "Dragon" that St George slays in the story they tell about him is supposed to be an allegory for paganism. And that story ignores the actual events in St George's life and rips off the pagan/Norse myth of Siegfried and Brunhilde (I am using the Western European names because the Northern European names and spellings completely escape me).

3

u/JomavavLovesCheese 6h ago

As a certified monster enthusiast, i stand with them. Although i doubt they want anything to do with me 🤣

1

u/WoodenHarddrive 5h ago

Trina Schart Hyman's illustrations for that book are still vivid images in my brain and I haven't seen that book in likely 25 years. Really wild how some images just capture us when we forget so many other things from those years.

1

u/Few_Forever_2531 5h ago

I might be sleep deprived and i don't follow the conversation but wasn't Satan depicted as a dragon few times? Slaying dragons should be one of more christian things to do.

0

u/WordsThatEndInWord 6h ago

Saints are Catholic the very antithesis of Christianity!

2

u/mgb55 5h ago

Ah yes, the historical origin of Christianity is its antithesis

1

u/WordsThatEndInWord 3h ago

I was debating whether to put the /s too. I really was. Fool that I am.

But also, if you talk to a lot of evangelical Christians, which seems to be the prevailing sect of Christianity, at least in America right now, they disavow the shit out of Catholicism

2

u/mgb55 3h ago

I, like most kids who went to Catholic school, don’t really practice anymore.

But my mind is blown when I hear them espouse what we believe and be so confident and so wrong. And just historically inaccurate as well.

5

u/OrganizationLonely29 6h ago

No one can convince me that billionaires are not modern day dragons… and we should slay them.

1

u/TacticoolOoferator 5h ago

I like blood-sucking vampires as an alternative analogy.

1

u/My_Work_Accoount 4h ago

That's not even an analogy in some cases.

1

u/OrganizationLonely29 3h ago

Yeah, not sure I even believe it’s an analogy anymore. Dragons an shape-shift in many mythologies! 😅

5

u/LazyAssLeader 6h ago

Chromatic or metallic?

1

u/Exotic_Drink69420 6h ago

“It is written in the Disks of Mishakal that evil, by its very nature, will always turn in upon itself. Thus it becomes self-defeating.”

Margaret Weis,  Dragons of Winter Night (Dragonlance: Chronicles, #2)

Metallic you doorknob of a kender.

3

u/WulfZ3r0 5h ago

I need to read up on the lore again. I thought Metallic dragons were mostly benevolent followers of Bahamut?

3

u/Exotic_Drink69420 5h ago

Nope I ment to write Chromatic.  I am the doorknob of a kender.

2

u/thatthatguy 5h ago

Amazing how Kender so often tend to be the ones to find such lost doorknobs. It’s like doorknobs just naturally find their way into Kender pockets.

1

u/LazyAssLeader 5h ago

If it looks like a doorknob, you will be popular with the ladies, that survive.

1

u/LazyAssLeader 5h ago

Yes! They free wayward adventurers of their mortal coils...and horde their loot for safekeeping.

1

u/CeruleanFruitSnax 6h ago

Bring back dragonslaying.
