My kids are going to technically have two weeks of school with zero academic instruction.
For the cost of the laptop and the iPad (both which barely function) we couldāve bought an air conditioning unit for our classroom.
My lower elementary student basically got credit for a school day for doing one subtraction problem and listening to a story.
People on Reddit are always asking why weāre raising unprepared children ā spending a boat load on hardware and software licenses instead of our facilities might have something to do with it.
This is an absolute disgrace.

Listen, I know you saw license plate numbers scratched out by criminals to avoid tolls. Those same jagoffs gahnta mark a ballot, even their own, on the barcode to get a whole batch of legal American votes tossed.
I want free and fair elections, but this administration is the most corrupt in the history of the world. Avoid mail ins because Epstein's buddy will cheat like it's Marla or Melania or that new "aide" all over again.

Friendly heads up for anyone that was at UPMC Children's Hospital last Thursday: they are currently contacting people who were possibly exposed because someone showed up to the cardiology clinic (not inpatient, the area where you go for more standard appointments) actively sick with measles. Stay safe and please be smart everyone

Man, I have been getting railed by stupid parking tickets lately. With the new tech they have on parking enforcement cars and flock cameras in certain lots (Butler lot near condado taco, for example), there is 0 leeway for running over time.
Iām not a negligent Parker either, I pay the meter everytime I park in a relevant location. But precisely predicting time spent or remembering which 7th Tuesday of the month is street cleaning has become a stupid game with high consequences.
It feels a lot like Iām being milked by OāConnor to try to settle the deficit. And say what you will now, but the amount they have invested in automating this process they will be coming for you soon enough.
Red light cameras, automated tire boot retrieval, all means a lot more automated ticketing that you may never see a paper ticket for.
Meanwhile still 0 traffic enforcement so people can go 80mph up and down my street.

I wanna start by mentioning this isn't advertisement or self promotion as I have no affiliation with this event. It was a witchy-goth craft fair at the convention center a few years back, definitely before COVID hit but I might've missed it if it still came again after all the social distance stuff died down.
But I've found out that it's coming back again on Oct 4th and was wondering if anybody has heard about it or intended to attend (again)? I remember it was pretty epic in the past in terms of the kind of local artists that showed up at it. In all the places I've been, Pittsburgh has probably the best and most substantial witchcraft presence/aesthetic BY FAR. It definitely has some of the best local businesses I've come across in terms of aesthetics and vibes.
By the information on the website and social media it seems like a big number of local artists have signed up again for this year, if any are around to confirm. But wondering if anyone here is intending to go. It seems like they're having a three city Halloween tour and it's pretty cool they picked Pittsburgh to come back to. I had a good time and still have art on my walls from the last time I attended this event and I'm hoping to do the same this year. I kinda miss the convention days of just a big witchy ball surrounded by like-minded people in awesome costumes so I'm hoping I get to relive that nostalgia again this October

There is a temporary vendor in for the next 6 weeks, but they specialize in corporate cafeterias and do not have much in the way of kid-friendly options currently. The woman working at the counter today was very receptive to feedback and said she would pass along our suggestions for things to stock, so the offerings may change in the future. Hopefully the new vendor will have better offerings when they re-open the kitchen in 6 weeks.
In the meantime, if you are planning a Childrenās museum trip, Iād highly recommend packed lunches for your kids.

I get that the parking at Magee Women's is awful, but please don't do this.
The spaces between accessible (aka handicapped) parking spots with the blue lines through them are not parking spots, even if you are disabled. That space is part of what makes the actual spaces accessible.
Some people who drive have wheelchairs, or walkers, or mobility issues that require extra space to get into the drivers seat.
I have issues with my left side neurologically that keep me from being able to squeeze into a narrowly opened door. I shouldn't have to have you towed so I can go home.

This is NOT an insurance question.
I am having huge problems with my UPMC care and donāt know who to reach out to next.
I go to a primary care office located within Magee. I spoke with the practice manager , Nicole Ferguson, on the phone once and she was going to help expedite my treatment.
Itās been a month and she has not talked to me again, even after patient relations told her to contact me directly.
The patient relations rep Iād been speaking with left. Since the new person came in , no one has answered my calls or called me back.
I have left at least 20 messages and tried to bring in other physicians peripherally involved.
Saw my dr directly in person yesterday and she was going to talk to the practice manager directly and have her contact me. Instead they had a social worker contact me without explaining her role or why she was needed.
UPMC has been making all these mistakes and they want me to make a bunch of calls and keep waiting.
I suggested other routes and nobody has told me if they have been tried and why they are or are not viable.
I have been in excruciating pain all this time and the treatment I need isnāt complicated.
Tl; dr: Who do I contact at UPMC Magee when neither the practice manager nor patient relations will even communicate?

I just moved to Pittsburgh and have been going to Jerryās. I love that store, it has a huge selection of classical music organized by composer but thereās a specific piece Iām looking for that they donāt have. It also doesnāt have much modern music. Any other places with a good classical selection to look? Iām also interested in a record store which would sell more modern records. Dance Gavin Dance, Hot mulligan, Men I trust Etc. Etc.

My family and I are looking to adopt 2 kittens. We would like to adopt long haired kittens as the short haired kittens makes me breakout and for some reason causes rashes. However my college roommate years ago had a long hair cut and I never had an issue. Any places that I can stop by to try and find a long haired kitten and adopt?
Thanks,

Seems like everyone has a camp or some sort of weekend escape around here. Tionesta, Tappan Lake, Bear Run, etc.
I myself just took over a family spot up in Holiday Camplands near Pymatuning Lake.
Where do yinz camp?

Pretty sure ICE is out today. I saw a marked cop car pull over a white work van into the Sheetz at the intersection of route 130 and 48 today at 7:50 am. As soon as the van pulled into Sheetz it was greeted by another marked cop car and then a black SUV showed up from another location. I couldn't get counts on people as I was driving past.

Iām really out of options with our one cat. Vet gave me gabapentin to try for her but she still wonāt allow me to trim more than 1 claw. Iād hate to have to get her into a carrier to go to the vet for a tech appt every 4 weeks but I guess it may come to that. Was thinking a mobile groomer could be a good way to go if I can find one good with cat claws.
