Long story short, I should have had Sword Dance on Kingambit.

This was drawn out too long even with Burn on Toxapex, but I was already on a losing streak before this battle so screw it.

As Danny Sexbang once said, "It's a tie, everybody wins!"

Discussion Would this with Drizzle actually balance out Zard Y's prevalence?

Post image

TLDR (for the lazy ass people who clicked on this but have the attention span of a goldfish)
- In my opinion, a Drizzle mega is what Reg M-C needs to not be "Zard Y vs It's counters" all over again, and I think Mega Tatsugiri is the best available candidate

My biggest question since Mega Drampa got absolutely fucked over on it's ability (seriously, why the HELL does it have Berserk?) has been this:

Could a Drizzle mega work a a counterbalance to stop Zard Y's prevalence?

Now, some things that naturally arise from this

Wouldn't this be even more centralizing than Zard Y?

I understand where this is coming from, and it makes sense

multiple popular pokemon (Basc, Arch, Gambit) either benefit directly from rain or like it to keep the fire away

but there are a 2 specific reasons why I think it wouldn't be quite as centralizing as Yarizard

-- 1.Lack of a good spread move and strong coverage

The best spread water type spread move for doubles is Muddy Water
(unless your name is Blastoise or Kyogre)

compare it to Heatwave, and you'll find it's noticeably worse (more balanced)

  • Muddy Water: 90 BP, 85% Acc ; 30% chance to lower accuracy
  • Heatwave: 95 BP, 90% Acc ; 10% chance to burn

Surf hits your teammates and isn't even stronger than muddy water, just more accurate

and another thing to note is that Zard has access to a 120 BP Grass move for coverage against the types that resist Fire (except Dragon and Fire)

Most Water types have no such thing and rely on Ice Beam for coverage
Which is obviously much weaker than Solar Beam

so a Drizzle mega, without taking stats into account, would already output less direct damage less reliably than Zard Y

-- 2. Weather beneficiaries

There's already counterplay for the most notable pokemon to benefit from rain + the new pokemon coming in M-C (Z-megas and Rilla among others) also harm the viability of rain abusers

Basc is countered by opposing Kingambit + it gets outprioritized and OHKO'd by Absol Z's SSucker Punch and doesn't like seeing Rilla either

Lucario Z is literally the Bridge's worst nightmare: a fast special attacking pokemon with super-effective STAB

Meanwhile, there's no sign of Safety Googles for dealing with Venusaur's sleep spam, and venusaur under the Sun is even faster than Basculegion in the rain

so, I think we've established reasoning for why a Drizzle mega wouldn't be meta warpingly broken, but actually more balanced than ZardY Sun nonsense

moving onto my next topic

Why I think Mega Tatsugiri should get it

Out of the remaining Z-A megas yet to arrive in champions, I think it would make the most sense and be the best functionally speaking if Mega Tatsugiri were given Drizzle, and there are also 3 reasons why I think this

-- 1. Weather Wars

M-Tatsugiri is slow enough to almost always underspeed Zard-Y (only -Spe nature Zard Y can underspeed M-Tatsu) and thus beat it if they Mega on the same turn

Tatsu also 4x resists fire and is nuetral to grass with good base SpD (base 125, same as milotic)

Tatsu also beats out Froslass in a direct weather while being nuetral to Ice as well

only Tyranitar (and the incredibly underrated Abomasnow) beat Tatsu in a direct weather war

--- 2. There's already counterplay in place

Multiple faster Dragon types are already in available/incoming that can check M-tatsugiri

  • Chomp and ChompZ, Hydreigon, Pult, Mega D-nite etc

there are also multiple faster fairies which are also popular

  • Whimsicott, M-Gardevoir, M-Eternal Floette, Ninetales-Alola

Also, 4x weakness to Freeze-Dry always fucks it over
(good dragon types having a 4x weakness is just a canon event atp)

-- 3. Drizzle makes a decent amount of sense on Tatsugiri

Tatsugiri has Storm Drain as one of it's base abilities, meaning it receiving Drizzle as progression from that isn't far-fetch'd.

Also, Rain is currently the only weather not to have a mega setter, as well as the weather with the fewest overall number of setters

  • Sun has 3
    • 2 normal (Torkoal, Ninetales) and 1 Mega (Zard Y)
      • additionally, all but 1 of them are relevant (poor Ninetales)
  • Snow has the most total setters, sitting at a total of 6
    • 4 are normal (Aurorus, Vanilluxe, Abomasnow and A-Ninetales)
    • 2 are Mega (Abomasnow and Froslass)
      • and 2 of these are relevant (Froslass and Ninetales)
  • Sand has 4 setters
    • 3 are normal (Gigalith, Hippowdon and T-tar)
    • one is also a Mega (T-tar)
      • Ttar is the only (VGC) relevant one as well

By comparison, Rain only has 2 setters (Peli and Poli) neither of which are megas, and Pelipper is the more relevant of the 2

Discussion Fun Fact: Chesnaught hard walls both Raichu Y and Gengar

Post image

Thanks to Bulletproof, Yaichu and Gengar are physically incapable of doing damage to Chesnaught. Although Gengar is probably gonna click perish song anyway.

Does this make him viable? No not rlly, but i found it kinda funny.

He technically also semi walls Zard Y and Froslass since Weatherball and Shadow ball also don't affect him and he has access to wide guard. This would apply to Floette as well if Moonblast was blocked by Bulletproof like one would assume.

Anyway, he may be bad and have abysmal usage but once Rillaboom gets added rest assured, I will be throwing some elo away trying to make him work. 🥀

Discussion Is there any way Mega Garchomp Z could be good?

Post image

I’ve seen a lot of discussion about how this mega just sucks and none about what This mega could “possibly“ do.

are there any sets or teammates that could make it have a niche?

I’ve been thinking that a mixed set might be better than a purely special set to being able to still attack with earthquake or other physical moves after using Draco meteor although it does lose out on stab. Do yall have any ideas?

Edit: I’m not saying the mega is bad😭
