History doesnāt change because you take down some statues. Forgetting about the past causes it to happen again.. this is the same logic Germans had when it came to holocaust memorials and such⦠no reason to ever forget the past and monuments and statues arenāt always glorifications⦠they are reminders of what our problems were. But hey thatās me an historian of American history I dunno what Iām talking about because I voted for someone you donāt like right?
You're very right that history doesn't change because you take down some statues, so Republicans shouldn't be so against tearing down those statues
Libraries, schools and museums are the proper avenues for history to be properly recorded. Statues are meant to idolize individuals. There's a reason there isn't a Mohamed Atta statue at the site of ground zero
No i disagree. I prefer teaching my children the bad and the good. America is an amazing country that did a lot of good for this world but itās lost because people like you want to erase history and pretend it didnāt happen.
As for you asinine comment about a Mohammad statue at ground zero.. Iām sure you just have forgotten New York attempted to erect a mosque there⦠and the Muslims supported it. Mohammad doesnāt have a statue because if you draw or erect any statue of him you will be killed for doing so (assuming they can find you)
Erasing history doesnāt help you learn it allows future generations to forget what happened
Ironically you have just demonstrated that you forgot history. Mohamad Atta was one of the ringleaders of 9/11
If you're saying we should preserve statues of confederates, then by that logic we should build a giant statue of Atta on the site of ground zero so the evils he committed could never be forgotten
No I didnāt notice you wrote Atta at the end. My fault. Either way they still tried to erect a Mosque so the point remains. And that would have been the same thing, by the way it was supported by most of New York that mosque.
A mosque to help grow islams⦠and islamic terror has no connection? Is that what youāre saying?
By your logic we should tear down all mosques in new york simply because of the attack⦠whats the difference between tearing some statues down to look back on history and tearing down mosques who would be in support of New Yorkās attack?
Your logic completely falls apart because US muslims were horrified by the 9/11 attacks just like everyone else. So there's no need to tear down any mosques, just like there's no need to shut down synagogues because of what Israel is doing in the Middle East
The confederate statues, on the other hand, were built to idolize those soldiers & military leaders who were enemies of America. They can get taken down (or at least put in a museum)
āSome people did some thingsā - Ilhan Omar. Yeah we can end the conversation here, the current statistic of supporters of Islamic violence are roughly 69 million Muslims and over 120 million support āsomeā violence. Of course people who live here who just attacked us are going to buddy up to you. If they want to keep living here š. You think no Muslims were on with it the math doesnāt support that and a previous sitting congresswoman supported it. It would be a perfectly normal response to that attack is the point which clearly went over your head but itās fine. Weāre done. Enjoy your day
Yikes. You have no idea what you've revealed about your beliefs š¤£
I love when people's inner thoughts they don't think are revealed are revealed. Lol u/Guilty-Past-778

A mosque to help grow islamsā¦
When in fact the person crying about it and nick named it what you're quoting is Pamela Geller an American anti-Muslim political activist.Ā

The U.S. Navy is considering renaming the aircraft carrier USS Doris Miller, which honors Black war hero Doris Miller, to instead honor President Donald Trump. This decision has sparked controversy as it would mark the first time a Navy vessel is named after a sitting president, while the original name recognizes Miller's significant contributions during World War II.Ā
trump admin want history books changed. They literally want the history of slavery to be omitted. They want it known that the slaves benefitted from dehumanization and learned valuable skills.
You either aren't a historian or are a very bad one. The statues were mostly erected to glorify the Confederacy in the civil rights era. Their purpose was nothing about remembering history, it was about establishing that the areas were racist and black people weren't welcome.
History doesnāt change because you take down some statues.
The point isn't to change history. The statues are there to honor traitors to the US who fought to keep slavery legal. The point is to not honor them, their history should still be taught.
this is the same logic Germans had when it came to holocaust memorials and such
The German government never tried to remove holocaust memorials. This comparison doesn't make sense anyway, to wit: Germany removed and outlawed all of its nazi statues and imagery.
