Additionally, the majority of the data centers in the US are very small facilities - there are only some 500 operational 100MW class hyperscale data centers in the country. I would also add that in most of the county’s/towns where smaller scale data centers have been built - original opposition fell by the wayside once the data center turned on began subsidizing a large portion of county / town plublic spending

I think it hit home really when ai datacenters for texas requested 484MW of energy...... thats more than 40% of the entire United States energy output

MW are a measure of power (the rate of energy production at a specific moment), not a measure of energy, so this doesn’t make a ton of sense. Also to be clear the US has peak installed capacity of ~1.3 TW; 484 MW represents ~0.04% of total US capacity, not 40%
