Hi my name is Jay , and for some context I moved down to Jacksonville, Florida with my mom recently to help take care of her father who has Lewy body dementia. I never had a solid relationship with my mother, many reasons but one main one being because she cannot save her money.
My whole entire life as a child she spent money on things that we did not need. Now that she’s older and needs help taking care of her father I figured coming down to Florida was a good idea. My problem with this has been. I’ve been extremely poor since being here. I’ve only just been able to get a job, my paycheck hasn’t hit and will not hit for a little while. We have been faced with eviction multiple times. The only reason we are still here is because family members have been able to help out financially. I have tried so many different things to get my mother to understand that we are in a situation that will not end well. She currently does not have a job, and is not getting paid for taking care of her father.i have nowhere else to turn too , I just need to rant. All of my insurance is for a different state so as much as I’d like therapy I can’t seek it out. We also have cats, that we’ve been struggling to take care of . I don’t know what else to do. I know I need a second job and I’ve been trying to get one. I just haven’t had luck in the job market. The fear of being homeless is so severe, but I don’t know what else to do. at this rate, we will be homeless.

Hi. New here but not to Reddit. Don't want to use my main account because well.....I'm dealing with a mental health crisis right now, have been for months. Have seen a doctor and tried different medication but it hasn't been easy finding the right one. Behind on rent, got a vacate notice today. I've been applying for jobs like crazy but I've got a 7 year gap in my employment history. I lost my physical job in 2019 and applied for social security disability. Was approved within 4 months but these days its not enough to live on. Husband works, but again not enough to live on. Have a 27 year old son with basically a 9th grade level. I haven't really eaten in 3 days because I'd rather he eats. My husband travels for work so at least he gets a $35 dollar a day stipend to eat. I called 211 and they sent me some resources to help but we make too much for EBT. I emailed my landlord about my mental health issues, that was like a gut punch, and I pray he lets me get caught up. Its only 1 month so I'm hoping for the best there. Thinking about trying to sell some stuff, not that I have much, I don't even know why I'm posting here. I just feel so alone and need someone to talk to. Thanks for listening

I come from a broke family like really broke but we didn’t always struggle with money,I think I remember struggling more than having it in my life.im 15 so I can legally get a job but I’m too busy with school and sports to do that,I get asked to go out with friends and I can’t because I have no money I need to pay for a sports need that I just made and was told “we’ll figure it out” I don’t blame my mom for us not being able to afford anything but it gets tiring only thinking about should I ask for this or not being in worrying about what’s in my moms bank account I’m so embarrassed I can’t tell anyone,it’s like I have no safe outlet because nobody understands how bad it truly is. Everyone thinks I’m well off but they don’t know we almost had to sell our house last year because we couldn’t afford it. I just want food in the house accessible,usually I can just go to the fridge maybe find something small but we have not a single thing I’m so tired of living this life and wish I was born into a family that has more money but I can’t help feeling guilty about that.

I have 43 cents in my bank account. I’m a courier but can’t work because was in an accident that wasn’t my fault. Trying to sell items online but no one is buying anything.

Do you think financially unstable will also make u mentally unstable?

yesterday, i was at the mall trying to get a quote for a new phone. a luxury salesman flagged me down and tried to give him his pitch, i told him i’m not interested. i kept repeating “i cannot afford whatever you’re trying to sell me” but he said he’d get credit just for telling me about it. honestly, i should’ve known better and just walked away. but he proceeded to try to sell me $300 dollar earrings that i kept saying i could not afford. he refused to take no for an answer, after i said a million times that i could not afford it. eventually i did have to walk away to remove myself from that.

now another thing. i recently joined a gym, and the gym membership comes with one free training session. i took the free training session, i enjoyed it, and of course he asked me if i wanted to keep training with him. he suggest that i train with him 2-3 times a week and i immediately told him that that’s not gonna happen. he kept dismissing my situation, saying things like “don’t worry, you’ll figure it out.” every time he contacts me for another session, it’s the same situation. i. cannot. afford. it. SIMPLE. i am paying tuition out of pocket and i’m in so much debt, trust me. my priorities. there have been too many times where people just cannot understand that i am broke and i cannot afford whatever they’re offering. like why would i lie about being so poor that i can’t afford the things i want??? i’m sick of it

Hi everyone. I'm an older daughter and have two brothers. We live with our step mom and she has 1 child. She decided to take her child on a nice vacation on a cruise and bought the little girl a lot of beautiful things and clothes.

The girl has been boasting in front of my little brothers and show off her things. My brothers started crying as they also want those nice things. I have a job and can only provide necessities. I feel so hurt by our situation. I wish my mom had still lived.

How do I get out of this situation? I'm doing my very best but my little brothers don't deserve the torture. And this situation is out of my hands. What do I do? Hope you can give me advice.

2. Demand change with leadership by writing and calling. Yes it does nothing, but the doing of it keeps the momentum and pressure and voice up.
3. Put your name in the ring of ANYTHING political. Getting onto those little government boards that need people, no voting you in needed.
4. Volunteer where you can. Develop your community. Get people involved in helping others.
5. Reddit-specific: Reject the hate and judgement and blame of people (for being poor) - poverty is a political choice, never personal. That's what I'm doing here. Report bad comments to us mods. Volunteer to be a mod.

Lost everything. Just me and my two goats and a dog in the bush. Good thing it is a third world country so just less than 30 dollars a month to survive. Since most of the food I am getting from the farm. Just the internet and a few groceries. I will be off grid the remaining part of the year to restructure. GOAL MAKE A MILLION NEXT YEAR. IT'S ACHIEVABLE .

I’m from the Philippines, I’m 40 years old, and I never imagined I would reach a point in my life where I would feel this helpless.
I’ve been unemployed for 4 months, and during that time, my debts just kept piling up. I owe banks, online lending apps, and other people. With the principal and interest combined, my total debt is now around **PHP 300,000 (about $5,000 USD)**. Debt collectors have already come to my home. Imagine being inside your house and having someone come looking for you because you owe money. It’s humiliating and terrifying.
I didn’t borrow money because I wanted to live a comfortable life or buy unnecessary things. A big part of my struggle has been trying to survive while dealing with my own expenses and my health. I have a heart condition and have been taking maintenance medication for the past 6 years. Now I’m running out of medication, and I don’t have enough money to buy more. I have to wait for my first paycheck from my new job, and honestly, I’m scared about how I’m going to get through these next few weeks.
I live alone. I’ve been separated from my ex-husband for 16 years, and my only son doesn’t live with me. Both of my parents have passed away. I have a brother, but we can’t really rely on each other, so most of the time, it’s just me.
Sometimes I cry without even realizing it.
There are nights when I talk to myself because there’s literally no one beside me to tell me that everything will be okay. I end up comforting myself because I don’t know who else I can turn to.
I know some people might judge me and say, “You should have managed your money better,” or “You shouldn’t have borrowed in the first place.” Maybe they’re right. I know I made mistakes. I’m not trying to make excuses for my situation.
I’m just tired.
I’m tired of pretending that I’m okay when I’m not.
I’m tired of looking at my bills and debts and wondering how I’m ever going to pay everything back.
I’m tired of being scared every time my phone rings because I don’t know if it’s another collection call.
And I’m tired of feeling like my life is already going nowhere at 40.
But next week, I’m finally going back to work. It’s a work-from-home job, and I’m genuinely thankful for this opportunity. It may not solve everything immediately, but at least it gives me a chance to start fighting my way out of this.
I’m not expecting my life to magically become perfect. I just want to be able to buy my medication, pay my bills, slowly repay what I owe, and finally sleep without constantly worrying about money.
I know I still have a long way to go.
For the first time in 4 months, though, I finally have something to look forward to.

Been absolutelly more than bad and creepy all months.. plus that I was not working in the night shift almost at all- many american customers and others are avilable only on the night shift...- dont know anymore what to do?? Should I change my job asap and give it up to this one? SOS SOS SOS... ! Anyone else did so bad this month as me??

So I lost my job but thankfully still have a roof over my head I am currently driving for uber to make rent but am wanting to agressively pay down my cedit cards I have a 4 year degree in healthcare admin but haven’t been able to find a job in 8 months and would rather try to find another side hustle type thing rather then go back to school for right now anyone have any advice on what else I could do? I was looking into selling like candles or something on Etsy but I’m not sure how profitable that would be is it worth it to try to sell candles at like 50$ each ?

This is so embarrassing, yet I ran out of options on what to do. I’m 25 and my license is about to be suspended because I had to choose between getting my electric cut off or paying a ticket that has now more than tripled and I have until September 2nd at 2pm to pay it or my licensed is suspended and a warrant is out of my arrest.

I’m so stressed out, and trying to come up with the $475 but falling short. I have nothing to sell, and I’m tempted at this point to call it quits on life. It’s always something happening in my life, nothing is getting better. I lost my job about two weeks ago because I got sick with Covid and missed three days of work. Guys, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m freaking out.

I have no one to talk to about this. Everyone will judge me, I just know it. I’m so scared. What do I do?
