Meta/sub related Images

You ever have that thing where you’re trying to explain something and it would just be so much easier if you could show a picture of it? Well that’s why images are back in the comments! There are still no images allowed in posts but you can put them in comments for on-topic illustrative purposes. If too many people are abusing it with pointless, off topic pictures like selfies and memes, it will get removed again. So y’all can reply to this post with all the nonsense images you want to get it out of your system, okay?

MEGATHREAD Trump Executive Order Discussion

This is the place to talk about anything related to Trump’s Executive Order regarding homelessness. Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. I know that this is stressful and there is a lot of fear and confusion about how this will be implemented and what it will actually mean. Because of that it is really important to keep this a fact based discussion. Posting unsubstantiated assumptions and speculative rumors is not helpful and only causes more confusion.

It’s fine to talk about your opinions and feelings, but they need to be clearly framed as opinions and feelings. Any misinformation or obvious outrage bait will be removed. It’s important to evaluate the trustworthiness of your sources. If it feels like an article is trying to make you feel scared or angry, it may not be the most reliable source.

Most importantly please be civil to each other. You can disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks or name calling. You can hate someone’s opinion but still be respectful towards the person as a human being. Stay on topic and play nice everyone.

MISSING SISTER

Looking for my sister Rebecca Lynn Rikard aka Rebecca Lynn Lane.

She is a drifter, goes all over but always calls. We just want to know she is safe.
Last we heard she was in Phoenix, AZ at The Rescue Mission. Said sometimes she stays on the Indian reservations and they’re really nice to her.

If you have any information at all please call Phoenix Police Department.

If there are any other subs to share this in, please feel free to share the flyer yourself or let me know so I can post.
(I can’t find where to upload a picture of the missing flyer but will try to post in comments. I am new to posting)

Thank you❤️

Need Advice 27F Wisconsin-NorthEast

I have been in the shelters in my area. They are not safe for me. I have been stalked, followed around all day by multiple men to the point I’ve had to flee cities. I have been giving threats because I would decline sleeping with random men. I have talked to police, & I had to stop going to certain places for my safety (mental health drop in centers, recourse places). I have talked to people I have known for 10+ yrs & they have scammed me out of $500+ dollars (half or more of my disability check) because they told me they’d let me sleep on their floor but would never come pick me up. Or I get blocked when I open up & say I am homeless because I fled from my family when realizing how bad everything was.
I have gotten heat stroke & sun poisoning so many times because I walk 16-22miles every day because I am terrified to sit down for 10 mins because of comments or things men say to me while grabbing parts of their bodies.
I am just wearing shorts & a tank top, nothing is showing besides legs & my shoulders. I am tall yes but I don’t ask for anything like it. Or they keep shouting “hey” over & over until they are inches from my face because I have one ear bud in.

Should I just move to a different state, or should I just try going more south?

Please any advice?

Need Advice Can’t Socialize With People Anymore.

So I’ve been homeless for about a year and a half, and unfortunately, had to experience homelessness through 12th grade. I just graduated. All things considered my situation isn’t bad compared to other people in this group. I have a daily motel with my family, I have a job, and I’m working on my youtube channel while attending college.

I feel guilty even asking for advice since some people are genuinely suffering, but I just wanted some feedback. I noticed that throughout my senior year, my social skills have severely degraded, and I’m not able to really talk to people, or I don’t enjoy having conversations, being in groups, or being around people at work and in general anymore. I don’t know what happened.

I think this homelessness has pushed me so far into isolation, especially during high school when I had to deal with absolute jerks, and nobody knew what I was going through. It’s like in every conversation, having a home indirectly is always brung up in the conversation, even when it isn’t about that topic.

I never had high confidence because I didn’t think I was attractive, but this situation has made it even worse. I also wanted to start dating, but I can’t because it would be inconvenient. I just want to know how to fit in again. But to recap, I want to know if this is the reason I can’t really communicate to people anymore. Glad to at least have this group of people to relate to and be able to vent here.

Need Advice Looking for advice on how to ask for help.

Up until this morning, I thought the last time I was homeless was going to be exactly that the last time.

I was homeless from 16–22, and it was rough. Really rough. When I finally got out of it, I made sure everything around me was as permanent as I could make it because I never wanted to go through that again.

Back then, I did it mostly alone. I didn’t really ask people for help. I researched what support was available in my area, used what I could, and figured it out.

But I’m 33 now, and I don’t have the same body or mind I had back then. I know I can’t survive another six years like that, and I don’t want to try.

So this time, I want to actually ask people for help before I run out of options. Family, friends, even people I haven’t spoken to in weeks, months, or years. The problem is... I genuinely don’t know how.

How do you start that conversation? What do you even ask for? How do you reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a long time without it feeling like you’re only contacting them because you need something? What kinds of help should I even be asking people for?

I’ve already started going through the traditional routes, applying to places and reaching out to housing resources. I also have a couple thousand dollars in savings, but I currently have no income. My absolute last-resort plan is buying a cheap car and sleeping in it, so I’m looking into that too.

Right now, though, I want to make sure I ask everyone, everywhere, and explore every option I have before I get to that point.

So I guess this post is step one: How do you ask for help when you’ve spent your whole life making sure you never had to?

Need Advice How would one find a place to live if he and his wife were splitting up and I’m disabled and have no money (hence why she wants me gone)

I’m disabled just in the pastv3 years and I haven’t been able to work in about 3 years ! I was a full time butcher for going on 18 years before I got diagnosed with major back issues , spinal stenosis DDD , scoliosis just t name a few I’ve had 5 surgeries so far two spinal fusions a lamenectomy, tons of injections Just to name a few of those , I actually was sitting very well financially before all of this with about 200k in savings plus a about 75k in our joint account so after 3 years of her only being the bread winner she’s had enough and I can see the writing on the wall so please if anyone can help me I’d appreciate it !! I hope I can work it out but the looks she gives me daily I’m lucky they actually don’t kill !! Cause they feel like they do!!

New to homelessness Advice or some suggestions idk?

I recently became homeless as of last week at the age of 20. I currently only have access to a kettle in order to prepare food and also have very little to get by with in general. I have been put on a housing register by the council however that could take up to 18+ months. I guess I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of some cheap and easy to prepare food I should stock up on when I get income or any other sort of advice ? I know this won’t be forever but this has left me feeling so deflated especially after everything that has happened the past few years before this

Are there any resources that helps with gas vouchers?

I know this might be a stupid question. But I need to make sure I get to work for the rest of the week.

A little backstory.

I'm 34F. I'm from Metro Detroit area, but throughout my adulthood I was all over the place, dealt with depression, anxiety and homeless. I ended up in Northern Michigan twice, I went with a friend the first time, and then the most recent time I moved there because of a job. The job laid us off, and my car's head gasket had blown out the same week. I junked the car and found a room for rent for $200 a month. I started renting a room, meanwhile I had no car, bad credit, and my mental was a mess. I was living in a rural area, that was pretty much lifeless. There was a small rinky dinky m0tel up about a block from where I was staying and they gave me a housekeeping job making $100 a week, there was only 9 rooms, and I got paid per room, usually 3-4 rooms a week, I split the rooms to clean with the other housekeeper who lived in one of the rooms. This was the only income I was getting. I was doing that for almost 1 year. I was becoming conditioned and probably would have gotten stuck there had I not took action. About a month ago I started applying for every single job I saw on indeed in random different states. I got a call back from a company in Joliet, IL for an account manager position at a cleaning company. I took the job. Prior, I was able to save up a little $$ and got a little assistance from someone to be able to get a greyhound ticket to IL and to rent a car to be able to get around and get back and forth to work, and also I need the rental car to live/sleep. I don't know anyone here, don't have a car of my own, and can't rent an apartment until I save up for move in costs and try to find one who will work with me with my bad credit. I don't have any repos or evictions, just a bunch of credit card debt and charged off personal loans. I'm cleaning my credit up slowly but surely with dispute letters though.

Anyhow, I've been here and sleeping/living in a car for 19 days now. I got paid this past Friday but my check was small because it was only a week's pay, I started work during a pay week. I had to take that paycheck and cover my rental car payment, and was only left with a little left to cover gas for the weekend, I picked up extra hours and worked this weekend. I was also donated food and a cooler from an shelter organization. I covered gas for yesterday, and today, but the rest of the week. I may have to stay parked cause I have no gas. Which mean I will miss pay. And the management at this job is very nasty and strict.

The only option is afterpay but they will only allow me to get clothes and shoes from a department store, I can't get any gift cards. I was going to use afterpay to purchase some sneakers and sell them to my friend in MI for the cash, cause I'm just that desperate. But the last post I made in another sub, people were making feel delusional for doing it and I got down voted pretty bad.

Are there any other options for emergencies like this?

I'm homeless with mental health issues and cats

I'm a 49 year old female with a 69 year old mother and a 45 year old brother along with a 2 year old and a 6 month old cats. The homelessness was completely unexpected. We no longer felt safe at our residence of 8 years. We've been homeless since the beginning of July. I don't currently have a job. I do doordash gigs, something I've been doing since 2018. My mom has guaranteed income in her social security and a small pension. She's bipolar and both her and my brother have Tourette syndrome. We've been surviving by camping in an old pop-up camper. We're miserable. My cats are miserable. It isn't good for my mom at her age to be dealing with this. It isn't good for me with my severe anxiety either. My catastrophic thinking was already bad, now it will never get better. We're in Toledo and we can not find a home to rent. Nothing. Even with my mom's guaranteed income and making extra money with doordash, there's nothing. We either get Stonewalled or we're coming up mildly short for the income it takes to rent something. My mind has been blown for how hard it is to find a home. And I just received a message that's telling me asking for financial assistance isn't allowed. AI is really annoying. At what point in my message did I ask for money? We have money which is why I can't believe how hard it is to get a home to feel safe in.

Helping my community

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this. I live in phoenix, and I often see people that need help on my commute around town. I was wanting to put together some little gift bags of sorts. Here’s what I have in my list so far, please let me know what else would be a good add and if anything I have wouldn’t be a good idea: • $20 gift card to a fast food restaurant so they can be patrons and get out of the heat • merino wool socks to wick away sweat • deodorant • sunscreen • lip balm with spf • packets of chicken or tuna salad and crackers • protein shakes • hand sanitizer • Portible fan/neck fan • positive thought cards (I’ve been thoughtful not to be “condescending”. Nothing I wouldn’t welcome from a friend or peer) • beef sticks •chewy granola bars • $50 cash • I also plan on freezing water bottles and handing those out. But would a reusable water bottle be better?

McDonalds Torture/Deterrent Program (Homeless)

I have been on the streets for a while. McDonalds does a good service in giving some homeless a warm place to stay over night In some locations (24hrs). I have to say though It has been torture. Some people have genuinely been outside or at work all day. They play happy go lucky music 24/7. You dare tilt your head back for some rest, the manager comes over saying you “you can’t sleep here” or an employee comes over making a racquet . Then proceed to play a McDonalds policy audio as loud as possible. If you’ve experienced this, feels like torture program. You’re fine being her overnight only if you stay up all night and listen to our 24/7 Happy music. If you’ve had a similar experience feel free to comment.

Need Advice Two days till homelessness

Don’t have a large budget, gonna try to stay afloat in a dingy motel until I can buy a van and live in that. Any other recommendations that may be helpful. I’m willing to relocate, work for people. Whatever it takes to get me away from where I’m at.

Need Advice Homeless for awhile and just moved to a different state.

I’ve been off and on homeless in Oregon for several years and a good friend of mine offered to bring me up to Washington to help me get on my feet. He told me that I’m already homeless in Oregon so just come do it here where the jobs pay better, and that it balances out the cost of living here. I’ve been working really hard since I got here to obtain and keep employment and I have a partner with me that needs a lot of help too (like getting his ID and his social and a job) my friend lets me use his place sometimes but I can’t be at the house when he works. He also gave me access to his own money to use in an emergency and continues to be helpful. I’m going a bit insane trying to pull all the pieces together not only for myself but for my partner I brought up here. I just need general advice because I could use all the help I can get rn. I’m out of my element and making decisions I thought I’d never get to make before.

New to homelessness Tips on living in your car ?

i have been living with my friend, been homeless for about a week now and ya im just out of options, i ended up getting a food service job but due to my back issues, if i stand or carry heavy options for too long my back starts to cramp up and my legs starts to uncontrollably shake reach makes it hard to walk. Recently as of wednesay i got hire at a call center job where all i do is sit at a desk and i love it but it pays below minium wage and my boss said i wont get paid til sept 10.

My friend has mention to me that she doesnt mind me crashing there but as the days goes on i just see her phyically getting more upset when she looks at me. Even with all the good news for the job, and housing searching ,she just seems to want her space back to herself. And she did tell me yesterday she is growing a little sick of me. So thats why i made this post. i have car tht on the verge of breaking down but as for now i dont know the first thing of living in a sedan while having my clothes everywhere , cases of water filling the trunk and no tints on the windows

what re some beginner friendly tips?

Nowhere to go...

Somewhat older couple, together for years. We've been practically homeless for almost a year, living in our car and in temporary housing that we can afford. We have tried moving for better jobs and more affordable housing, a way out of our situation. We cannot seem to stabilize long enough to make much progress, whether because of unstable, low-paying employment or unaffordable and even nonexistent housing.

Winter is coming and our car won't run forever. Right now, I'm afraid we're in too big a city, burning too much money and exhausting our resources too quickly to recover and if we fail, we may not survive here. We simply can't afford to grind here and we're always in potential danger.

Where we came from is, alternatively, too small and lacking resources. Finding temporary housing for more than a few days was impossible. No one seemed to want roommates either. Our work, there, also depended on the weather and tourism.

While I am deliberately vague, I'm also willing to explain more and answer reasonable questions. To start, I'm not a bot. I've only started to interact with this community because I see others getting advice or at least conversation with people who may understand.

Not sure what we expect from this post, so maybe some advice or conversation could help us.

Making kits to give people, want to give back somehow

I used to be homeless, but I always had a vehicle thankfully. I've actually won that "lottery" TWICE thanks to being kicked out at 18, and a decade later losing everything in a fire after things were fine. I understand that most homelessness is transient, some is not, and the reasons are all horrible and valid in my book. I don't have a lot to give, but I want to help in some way... I keep being given/coming across excess hygiene supplies that I don't really need or use. I don't want to offend people by giving them, but I also know if I try and donate like shampoo soap etc it will get thrown away by any sort of shelter, and I also don't want the person to throw them away either if someone really does need them.... Recommendations for getting these to people who need them in a way where they don't just get tossed? Maybe I should just give them to a local gym and ask them to keep them there for anyone who needs them and hand them out for free, like some places do with diapers? Hanging cheap backpacks at intersections where I know people panhandle? Open to suggestions as well for what to add to these kits that people do really need that gets under-donated. Maybe like phone chargers, etc.? Thanks, and stay safe out there...
