Dime Detective Magazine was one of the major American pulp detective magazines, launched in November 1931 by Popular Publications. It specialized in fast-paced crime, mystery, gangster, and hard-boiled detective fiction, featuring many prolific pulp writers, including Erle Stanley Gardner, who would later become famous for creating Perry Mason. During the 1930s the magazine appeared frequently—at this point twice monthly—and was known for its lurid, action-oriented cover paintings and inexpensive 10-cent price. It continued publication through the golden age of the pulps, eventually ending with its August 1953 issue after more than two decades and 68 volumes.

Barye Phillips was an American painter and illustrator of pulp magazines and paperbacks. In the mid 1940s, he was the illustrator of several comic strip adaptations of literary classics for the 'Famous Fiction' newspaper feature by the Bell Syndicate.

Horror Stories was an American pulp magazine published by Popular Publications from 1935 to 1941. It grew out of the “weird menace” genre pioneered by Popular’s Dime Mystery Magazine and followed by Terror Tales, combining horror, supernatural fiction, crime, and sensational tales of danger. The magazine became known for its lurid covers, often featuring a helpless woman in peril, with artists such as John Newton Howitt providing some of the most memorable examples. With a relatively short run of 47 issues, Horror Stories is now considered an important title from the golden age of the pulp magazines and a highly collectible piece of 1930s popular culture.
