[For Hire] Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django, AWS Certified) — 7 years, open to contract or full-time, remote

Hello all,

I'm a Software Engineer with 7 years of experience building production systems in Python, most recently across SEO analytics, civic-tech, and AI infrastructure work. Open to remote contract or full-time roles.

What I bring:

  • Django, DRF, FastAPI, Celery in production, across SaaS, civic-tech, and data platforms
  • PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, Redis, including performance tuning and cluster architecture
  • AWS (Certified Solutions Architect), Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes at the operational level
  • Recent focus on LLM orchestration and RAG pipelines: built a multi-provider routing layer across OpenAI/Anthropic, and a self-hosted Ollama/OpenWebUI platform for a civic-tech org
  • Production reliability work: incident response, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Loki, Sentry), diagnosing real bugs like race conditions under load

A couple of things I've built:

  • Architected an 8-node Elasticsearch cluster with a custom benchmark harness to validate it before it took production traffic
  • Contributed to Mediacloud Story-Indexer, an open-source pipeline indexing hundreds of millions of news stories

Based in Nairobi, Kenya (GMT+3), comfortable working across time zones with distributed teams. Open-source contributor to Django and CKAN.

Rule for bot users and recruiters: to make this sub readable by humans and therefore beneficial for all parties, only one post per day per recruiter is allowed. You have to group all your job offers inside one text post.

Here is an example of what is expected, you can use Markdown to make a table.

Subs where this policy applies: /r/MachineLearningJobs, /r/RemotePython, /r/BigDataJobs, /r/WebDeveloperJobs/, /r/JavascriptJobs, /r/PythonJobs

Recommended format and tags: [Hiring] [ForHire] [FullRemote] [Hybrid] [Flask] [Django] [Numpy]

For fully remote positions, remember /r/RemotePython

Happy Job Hunting.

solid background. maybe cross post to r/forhire and hang around niche discords too. networking still works better than just posts here
