H&K Speakers not functioning

Post image

Lately my H&K speakers started crackling and sometimes even just stop working. Switched left to right, problem still on the same side. Not an electrical hero so don't really want to chase wiring. Could this be the amplifier? Saw a lot online that they tend to go bad?

Getting jealous of these clean R53’s while my clear coat is shot.

How common is that? Mine is almost all gone on my hood and I wondered if it was just a hard life for mine.

Seen a lot with disappearing clear coat, mine was imported from Italy and I think it has always been stored inside there so I've been very lucky!

Seems pretty common especially if yours is red like mine.

Standard Chili Red experience unfortunately. I feel your pain, I’ve owned one too and decided to cut my losses.

I see the junkyard ones the red paint has clear coat problems. Mine is red and has the same issues.

Usually when the Amp goes out theres no sound at all. If only one side or one speaker stops working than i would check the speaker first.

Yeah I checked the speakers, put a new one in the rear, still no sound. Then switched back to the old one and then it worked for a few minutes and then it cut out again. Sometimes while driving one wil just cut out or come back on. Kinda lost on this one 🤣

Have you tried the head unit?

Good shot, it does have an aftermarket Pioneer head unit in it but I have a spare original radio laying around so might try that!

Yeah I have a JDM import that I got last year that currently only has one side of the car where the speakers actually play. I haven't really delved super deep into what's causing it mainly because the Japanese broadcasting stations have a lower tuning frequency than the American ones do LOL

Is it all of the speakers or just one. I would recommend pulling the trim panels and pull up the carpet some, especially the rear foot well and check for a mouse house. Have seen a few times over the years where they burrow into the foam padding and chew on wires.

I checked behind the panels but there was nothing but a load of dust but no broken wires as far as I can see

Maybe use contactcleaner. I had similar problems mostly on the drivers side. Disconnecting the radio a couple times fixed it. It could just be a bit corroded contacts

Looks great. Is that the orenje S emblem for the side vents?

Thanks! No I just took the original ones apart and painted them

It really does add a lot to the look of it. I'm gonna try the same.

The HK system is garbage, especially in this day and age. Remove tha amp and speakers and replace them with a D class amp and proper speakers. Sound SO much better and they can function for the next 20 years. Mind you that these cars are easily 20+ years old and electronics will start acting up.

If you need help let me know.

I’m so jealous of all these awesome looking aero kit bumpers on these Euro R53s. And there are SO many JCW specs. They all look so pristine! I’ve only seen like 3 JCW R53s in the New England area since I got my first R53.
