Never want to see a local business to fail, but this seems a little out there

This is info for all my wheelchair users!

My partner and I toured MAA Vales 2 bed 2 bath apartment. They only have one ADA layout for 2 beds.

IT ISN'T WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. I couldn't turn around in the kitchen due to the island not meeting NC ADA clearance compliance standards, So I couldn't access the dishwasher, sink, stove or that whole wall of cabinets, including the island cabinets. The only things I could get to are the fridge and the microwave.

I couldn't access the laundry either due to the hallway being extremely narrow.

The carpet in the bedrooms were shaggy and not flat, I didn't measure them to see if they meet NC ADA compliance standards, but I couldn't maneuver in the bedrooms without my partner pushing me. The carpets in the leasing office and breezeways were up to compliance standards, so I'm not sure why they didn't use similar carpet in the ADA apartments.

The only things I could access in the apartment are the coat closet, the ONE accessible bathroom (the other one isn't, but also that's not required by law for both to be accessible), the living room/dining area, the fridge, and the balcony. I couldn't access the bedrooms, the closets, most of the kitchen as listed above, the laundry room, or second bathroom.

The fact that their lack of care to follow the ADA requirements means that people in wheelchairs can't access MOST of the apartment is really disgusting. Disabled people have enough to deal with on a daily basis, we shouldn't have to verify accessablity claims for our homes.

I will be reporting them to the necessary NC federal and state departments for violating NC ADA compliance and the fair housing act. I just wanted to let my fellow wheelchair users know to avoid this location for 2 bed ADA apartments, as they aren't actually ADA compliant.

On September 8, the North Carolina Supreme Court returns to oral arguments for the first time in months. Under Newby, the Court has let Duke energy give us illegal rate hikes (Newby owns Duke stock), has allowed the legislature to rig our electoral maps (Newby is allied with legislative Republicans) and has allowed the legislature to violate our constitution and underfund public schools.

The Supreme Court is the most important elected body in North Carolina, but it gets the least attention. Most of the terrible decisions made by the Republican majority are met with little press coverage and even less engagement from North Carolinians. We're going to change that. We will meet the Court’s return and pack the Court with concerned North Carolinians whose presence will respectfully send a message: we are watching how you make decisions that have huge impacts on our lives.

This work is crucial to begin to bring change to the Court. We want to get as many people out there as possible.

For those plant savvy triangle on here, I've seen a lot of activity of tree of heaven growth being posted, and in my commute between Fuquay and Carrie I'm seeing mark it up ticks in these trees growing in yards, ditches, and on roadsides.

I've always leaned on nature running its course as a philosophy but having been fighting them growing in my backyard because of some bad yard management from a neighbor I am worried this invasive species is about to become one of the most common trees in the triangle area...

Feel silly to ask here but certainly others are thinking the same thing no?

This is about how something becomes a "Sponsored product."

Amazon lets businesses bid to be "Sponsored" and it runs digital auctions to collect the bids.

But Amazon told businesses that the highest bid would only pay slightly more than the second-highest bid.

For example: If you bid $1 to have your product “Sponsored” and the next-highest bid is $0.50, you should pay about $0.51.

But we believe that Amazon would run the auction, see those bids, and then secretly raise the second-place price so it could charge the
winner more.

It was a gradual strategy based on concealment.

Internal Amazon documents show they tested how much they could raise those hidden charges without advertisers catching on, then raised them
more when businesses didn’t react, then gave false answers when businesses started asking questions.

Those higher costs on sellers can filter down to you, as consumers, through higher prices, and our initial estimate is that this impacted thousands of small businesses in North Carolina.

I recently had a blown head gasket on my Honda Accord and I’m looking for a reliable used vehicle to replace it. I’m trying to avoid taking on another car payment, so I’m working with a budget of around $3,000.

Ideally, I’d like something reliable and inexpensive to maintain. I’ve been looking at older Lexus and Acura models (roughly 2008+), but I’m open to other recommendations.

For those familiar with the Raleigh area, what models would you recommend looking for at this price point, and what should I watch out for when buying a used car?
Any advice on finding a reliable budget vehicle locally would be appreciated.

Edit: To be more clear the head gasket isn’t the only thing wrong with it but it was enough to just be done with it in general. Overall Ive been priced $5600 for all repairs. I just dont want to put anymore into the car.

This got my attention because I wasn't looking for a trend. I started looking at groundwater data after noticing various local water-related policy changes and discussions in the region.These screenshots are from USGS monitoring well WK-430 near New Light, NC.What stands out to me is that not only are the lows lower, but the recharge highs appear lower as well. Around 2021, the groundwater level reached roughly 16-17 feet below land surface. More recently, the best recovery appears to be around 23 feet below land surface, a decline of roughly 6-7 feet.Am I interpreting this correctly? To my eye, it looks like the aquifer is recovering to progressively lower levels after recharge events.This isn't intended as an alarmist post. I'm genuinely trying to understand whether this is a meaningful trend or a normal pattern for a Piedmont bedrock aquifer.

It was found on the sidewalk by a nice lady who doesn’t use social media. She found it this morning on her walk, and it was still here this evening. Looks like it may have been run over and then popped up onto the sidewalk. Found off Wade as if you were gonna head out of town, right by the shopping center, at the Faircloth intersection. I’ll probably just leave it here at snooker’s because I live on the other side of town. They’re open 4p-2a every day.

I’m wondering if anyone in the Raleigh/Triangle area has experienced an undercorrection after SMILE or LASIK eye surgery, and hoping for recs for a second opinion.

I’m 39 and had SMILE done at the end of May. My prescription beforehand was about -4.25 in both eyes with no significant astigmatism.

Unfortunately, my distance vision never became as sharp as I expected. It has always felt like I’m still somewhat nearsighted, particularly in my left eye.

At my 3-month appointment last week:
• Right: 20/25 uncorrected, -0.50 prescription, correctable to ~20/20
• Left: 20/50 uncorrected, about -1.00 prescription, correctable to ~20/20

My ophthalmologist now agrees that my left eye was undercorrected. He thinks I’ll likely need LASIK on the left eye to finish the correction, but wants to wait until one year after the original SMILE (May 2027) before doing it. In the meantime, I’ll be using glasses for distance.

I’m obviously pretty frustrated after having surgery specifically to get away from glasses/contacts, although I’m relieved that the left eye still corrects to 20/20.

Has anyone else had a similar undercorrection after SMILE? Did you eventually have an enhancement, and how long did you wait?

I’m also considering getting a second opinion—not necessarily because I think anything was done incorrectly, but because I’d like another experienced refractive surgeon to review the outcome and tell me whether waiting a full year is necessary.

Any recommendations in Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill for a refractive surgeon who does SMILE and LASIK/PRK and has experience with post-SMILE enhancements?

I've been searching for an internship for the spring semester that relates to aerospace and have fallen short of finding any. My lack of connections with people within the field does not make searching any easier. I'm interested in aerodynamics in any facet, so aviation, aerospace, and motorsport are all things that I would be incredibly interested in doing! Though I am not picky, since I've not been able to find anyone who will take a high schooler. I will turn 18 by the time I have to do the internship, so that shouldn't be an issue. Please let me know if you have any ideas!

I need one to send to a friend from out of the country. I've tried three in the area and none of them have them. :(

EDIT: I went to western boulevard Raleigh, walnut st Cary, the one in apex, and one in Clayton I think (it was a while ago) and none of them had them. 😔
