TLDR - For the TLDR version of this post, please refer just to the paragraph that begins with *** as that is basically the main point of this post.
So I have never ever played any other resident evil game except for 4 OG 2005 and 4 remake 2023. Iāve played 2005 RE4 about 100 times (literally) throughout my childhood, and I just finished my first ever play through of RE4 remake. While I do seriously LOVE the plaga ass kicking, supplexing, roundhouse kicking, absolute handsome BEAST that we get to play through Spain in RE4, I thought Iād love to see where it all began for Officer Leon S. Kennedy on his first day at the R.P.D, and what exactly happened to him on that infamous night of September 30th 1998.
Firstly, I have already picked up that while this game is SIMILAR in many ways to RE4 remake in terms of its play style, it is ENTIRELY different in terms of its overall vibe. While RE4 remake is very heavily focused on more of an action type of game, RE2 remake is MUCH more of a horror escape room/puzzle solving type of game (although RE4 also does have a general horror vibe as well, RE2 remake is much more heavily focused on the horror aspect). And Iāll be honest; Yes. It really IS scaring the shit out of me⦠but holy shit am I LOVING every SINGLE minute of it.
***For my first ever play through, Iām naturally doing Leonās story. I am playing on standard difficulty. I havenāt needed to google anything yet, and Iām SO hoping that I donāt EVER need to, but I would love if you guys who have completed the entire story could give me any advice of what to look out for, or what to be careful of, or items to prioritise hanging onto during my first play through (please keep in mind however, PLEASE no spoilers). Examples of things that are okay to tell me include basic game mechanics, or GENERAL areas where I might find say, āsomething of interestā perhaps. Not something like the exact location + combination of a safe or what it contains, but the general area of where something important may be that I āshould look around for/investigateā if that makes sense.
So far, I have collected 4 Hip Pouches for eight extra inventory slots (16 total), the gun stock + muzzle break + high capacity magazine for the Matilda, the Wā870 shotgun, and the lightning hawk Magnum (annoyingly, while researching the game before playing right now, I did come across one ākind ofā spoiler that told me to keep the āUSB Dongle Keyā after using it to retrieve the Magnum from the S.T.A.R.S office armory as apparently Iāll need it later for another locked case. My guess is for the Special Weapons Case by the underground stairs. So I do ākind ofā annoyingly also have the USB Dongle Key, but I can live with that. Itās only annoying simply because like I said, Iām trying to keep this natural. And I DEFINITELY would NOT have naturally thought to take that USB back out of the computer). Iām currently hiding out in the clocktower having just done the cog puzzle and receiving the second Power Panel Part. Honestly, Iām just listening and waiting for those loud footsteps to be very faint and in the distance before I make a break for B1 again via the east office, through the watchmanās room, down the stairs, and back into the parking garage to get back to the jail. Iām basically just waiting for that giant hulking invincible dude dressed in black (apparently referred to online as Mr. X) to fuck RIGHT off before I finally try to go receive the parking garage card/ticket.
I will note, while I do have the āSamurai Edge - Albert Modelā available for me to take from an item box to use, as this is my first ever play through and I donāt know if the samurai edge is more powerful than the Matilda, I have not used it and I am not GOING to use it as I want this to be a natural first player experience. And naturally, if I hadnāt bought the deluxe version of the game, I would not have that available to me. So that is off-limits.
