Sure I have way more expensive pistols, but my Super BlackHawk 44 magnum really moves me. V6 porting helps but doesn’t make it pleasant to shoot. lol But I still love this thing.

EDC update

Started carrying a j frame a couple years ago after picking up a 637-2. Decided I wanted something just as small but a little more classic and maybe more shootable in all steel and with no key hole. Traded in for this 60-7 I found locally. Started off with the magna stocks and a grip adapter but found out that wasn’t any more comfortable to shoot than the airweight with the stock rubber grips. Picked up these old Uncle Mike’s boot grips and they’re a game changer.

Cleaning up stainless steel - before & after

I previously posted this 64-6. Those previous pics were decent before shots, gun was cleaned up but that's it. I find working on these things to be therapeutic, and it's hard to mess up stainless so I've been refining my technique a bit. The hardest area to get right is around the recoil shield. I haven't figured out the best way to blend that, and if you look closely you'll see it in Photo 7.

Started tackling the glaring finish problem at the muzzle (photos 1 and 2). This is either from a storage rack or a duty holster as the wear pattern is symmetrical on both sides of the front sight. Started out with 320 grit wet/dry sand paper lubricated with Ballistol. Pretty much fixed it on the right side of the barrel (photo 3 is right side done, left untouched), but the gouge in the left side is too deep to fully remove.

Photo 4 is both sides finished. Photo 5 is the turn ring on the cylinder and photo 6 shows the scratches on the side plate. The yoke screw hole was pretty boogered from whomever had this thing before.

Followed up with a gray 3M pad to give it the factory brushed look. The trick here is to use some oil on the pad and go one direction. Front to back on the frame, barrel, and side plate. Counter clockwise on the cylinder.

Photo 6 is where I'm at right now. It's far from perfect, but rather than just looking beat to hell it has a nice worn look to it. I was really happy with how the side plate turned out; all the dings around the screw holes are gone. I don't mind wear, but I hate the look of things being gouged by rushed hands.

Once I finished all that work, I started on the action. First order of business was the thumb piece would not drop in. Some light file work on the back of the thumb piece allowed it drop right into place.

Rather than mess with a spring kit I decided to borrow some ideas shared by Nelson Ford. Clipped two coils off the rebound slide spring (he says two and half, I went conservative) and then carefully filed the cut end flat. I then adjusted the main spring to where I had about 48 ounces of tension. I may have to add a little more tension to it, but we'll see how it does setting off Ginex primers.

After some dry firing, I have to say I'll never install a reduced power rebound slide spring again. Like Nelson says in his video, the thicker wire in the OEM spring gives a firmer reset than a reduced power spring.

Double action trigger pull is somewhere around 8 or 9 pounds. My gauge only goes to 6 pounds unfortunately, but using a 10 pound dumb bell as a gauge the trigger breaks right as the weight comes off the ground. Single action is a crisp 3 pounds.

This gun times up perfectly. The only mechanical issue I've identified is the hammer occasionally rubs the frame. Have some hammer shims on the way to address that. I'll be installing an extended firing pin as well.

Just picked up this old model for $650. Seems in good shape with just a few bumps and bruises. I was curious if I got a good deal or not. If anyone knows anything about these old guns that I should know, please let me know.

Picked up from Kings Firearms. Shoots great as I received it and can’t wait to get back to the range with the new hogue grips. Gave it a quick polish and buff job to get the grime off. I should have got one of these a long time ago!

2500 rounds in and thriving, Zastava m83

After 2500 rounds and about 70% of those being magnums, the m83 is holding up wonderfully! Bore is still bright with strong rifling, it’s dead accurate, mildly recoiling, and an absolute blast to shoot. If only the m83 was this nice without extensive modification.

Just won this at a auction Saturday. 1976 3rd Gen Detective Special.

Bought it as it was born the same year I was and my birthday is in a few weeks.

Gonna have it engraved and want a fancy BBG and Church OWB leather holster.

What are some premium, unique, options for holsters?

Pics and links to good stuff are even better

Assistance with getting first revolver

Upvotes

Howdy,

I am recently deciding to pick up a revolver and would like some assistance and first hand accounts on those who have used these revovlers.

I have been looking at the Colt "Blued Python 5 inch" and the "S&W 686 plus 5 inch", I plan to shoot mostly .38 specials. As I am unfamiliar with these types of fire arms I would like to hear any advice on what to expect from them or to any recommendations for purchasing a revolver.

Thank you in advance!

I've already soaked in CLP, cleaned with a brass brush and a brass scraper, gotten a lot of rust off, but need help with the remaining spots. The bore is great, under the grips is pretty clean. But these are the more stubborn spots.

Questions about Colt 357

Thumbnail

My dad was showing me his gun collection, and one that caught my attention was this Colt 357 that my grandfather owned. I have a few questions if anyone could help me out. What’s the difference between the Python and the Diamondback? And how much is the Diamondback worth? (Don’t worry, I’m not planning to sell it.) Unfortunately, my dad didn’t take good care of it. Should I take it to a gun store to clean it, or is it easy to clean it on my own? What tools should I use?

New stag grips,…. Which pistol?

Thumbnail

I purchased these stag grips on eBay this morning and now I need to decide if I should put them on my Smith & Wesson 19-2 with the 4” barrel or the one with the 6” barrel. I’m thinking of moving the smooth football grips that are currently on the 4” over to the 6” since that pistol has the target trigger and hammer and then put the stag on the one with the 4” since those are slightly smaller grips. ??

Allchin mount screws

Does anyone know the correct length 6-32 screws for the allchin mount for for the model 19 carry comp? I know allchin sells the 6-48 to mount it to the gun but I’m looking for the correct length to mount the holosun 407c x2 to the plate.

Pre Model 36 Chief Special

| love J-frames, I love history, and I really love unique wheelguns with a story.

This one checks all the boxes.

It's a 1953 pre-Model 36 Chief's Special, an early 5-screw example with the I-frame grip frame and trigger guard. So technically, this one came before the true J-frame.. but spiritually, it's already there. The original stocks are numbered to the gun, and the bluing has held up incredibly well for 73 years. This is the kind of revolver that makes collecting fun. Very happy to have this old Chief in the collection.

S&W 642-2

There is a 38 spl+p s&w 642-2 for $330 on consignment at my local club.

Curious if this is a small frame that is worth chasing, if it's a good deal, worth pursuing as a tiny carry gun, etc.

Just got a 6" 586 this month and am seriously considering a tiny wheel gun for the days where I don't want to carry my normal 365xl, or for hiking and backpacking where the weight matters.

Thanks!
